A Taste of Cornwall Presented by Keith Holmes by a courtier on both the Duke and Rigoletto whose daughter has been seduced by the Duke.
Rigoletto After last year’s season of successful performances of Carmen and La Traviata, The Russian State Ballet and Opera House is back with another world-class opera featuring an impressive cast and accompanied by a large live orchestra with over 30 musicians.
The curse comes to fruition when Gilda likewise falls in love with the Duke and eventually sacrifices her life to save him from the assassins hired by her father. Rigoletto is one of Verdi’s best-loved masterpieces, and is considered as standard repertoire.
Rigoletto is an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi, set to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, and based on the play “Le Roi s’amuse” by Victor Hugo. Its tragic story revolves around the hunchbacked court jester, Rigoletto, his beautiful daughter Gilda he loves and the Duke of Mantua he serves. Live Satellite Broadcast SWAN LAKE (12A) Presented by the Royal Ballet
Tue 17 Mar 7.15pm Anthony Dowell's opulent production of the greatest of all romantic ballets returns to the Royal Opera House. Tchaikovsky's first ballet score was slow to capture the public imagination. But today this magical tale of a beautiful woman transformed into a swan ranks as one of the world's most popular ballets. It has crossed over into popular culture and been radically reinterpreted many times. From the earliest days of the Vic-Wells Ballet, it has also been one of The Royal Ballet's signature works. For his 1987 production, Anthony Dowell went back to the choreography originally created by the great Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov for the Mariinsky Theatre in 1895. Yolanda Sonnabend's inspired designs draw on the Russian Imperial Court of the period, blending historical accuracy and gothic fantasy. The magical setting is further evoked by the Carl Faberge-inspired glamour of the court scenes in Acts I and III, and the misty, moonlit beauty of the lakeside 'white' acts. (180mins)

Richard Herring Lord of the Dance Settee After covering weighty issues like death, love, religion and spam javelins, “The King of Edinburgh” (List) is in a frivolous mood with this show about daftness, whether the term “cool comedian” is an oxymoron, bouncing joyously on the sofa and how Herring’s whole career is a failed attempt to top a piece of visual slapstick comedy he came up with at 16. Can he revisit the joke thirty years on or will it smash his old bones?

Essence of Ireland
Cats
Eddi Reader & Band
Set against the backdrop of Ireland, England and America in the 19th century. Essence of Ireland tells the story of love, joy, happiness and heartache endured by Coro McGowen and Sean Dempsey as they are separated by emigration from each other and their beloved Ireland. With Irish classics such as Galway Girl, Emigrant Eyes, Tell me Ma and Irish Rover along with original scores, Essence of Ireland is the most complete Irish show in the world today.
Presented by Inspirations and Direction Theatre Arts
Fairground Attraction brought Eddi Reader into the limelight when the single Perfect and album First of a Million Kisses both topped the British charts. Her subsequent albums signalled her increasing ability to assimilate different musical styles and make them all very much her own.

A musical composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Set on a gigantic rubbish dump which after dark becomes alive with cats of all types, shapes and sizes. Cats tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles. One by one we learn about their personalities as they strut their stuff. Was there ever a cat so clever as magical Mr Mistofelees? Is there a rock-star idol amongst the gang? Who are the most glamorous and mischievous? Come along and find out.
Eddi’s taste in co-writers, writers, songs and players is impeccable but what sets Reader apart is the depth and quality of the emotional performance, her ability to move the listener and connect with her audience.
