01 PERVASIVE PERIPHERIES DEFINING A NEW SUBURBAN ECOLOGY
Determining that some downsides of this suburban region include the abundance of impervious surfaces and all-around homogeneity, we propose to allow for the messy, aggressive, fine textures and heterogeneity of nature to take over. Our main goals are to increase walkability through our mobility loop, create jobs with a new Startup campus, create a regional destination such as tulip and Christmas tree farms, and finally, improve access to fresh produce while reinforcing the sense of suburban community through communal and commercial plots and green spaces. All this through the development of an ecological framework, which involves weaving, layering, and interconnection.

ELEMENTS CORE STUDIO (WITH DISTINCTION) | FALL21’
Ecological Systems Our reading of the site allows us to make an argument for the infiltration of the natural ecologies already existing.
From the hillside to the lower wetland, the yellow green ecological forces are distributed in horizontal and vertical elements along the topography. And eventually those elements go over the existing conditions: gray parking lot, rooftop of warehouses and big markets, creating new paces for Recreation in the forest park, and the site’s high water table allows us to take advantage of locations for planting and developing opportunities for irrigation of the Commercial and communal plots

Programatic Functions By making way for the existing greenery of the Blue Hills, and the Neponset River, as well as taking advantage of the regions high water table, we believe our proposal will introduce a strategy for the reorganization of systems on the site making way for sustainable growth and the development of new ecologies overtime, prioritizing nature while giving new access at the human scale. Thus developing a new suburban Ecology

02 FLOWS AND TRANSFERS: NETWORKS OF URBAN FORMS
Our proposal aims at representing the activity of the seaport through a series of dynamic networks. Networks of human interactions, networks of trade, as well as networks of infrastructure already existing on the site at various scales.

ELEMENTS CORE STUDIO | FALL2021
The site experience is driven by a series of spatial configurations. Using this new strategy we create a trajectory for reconciling and reconnecting the existing elements of networks. Pocket spaces serve as moments of pause, for the nodes which include focal or anchor points with key importance (including cultural connectors). The linear spaces serve as a network of connectors throughout the site, cutting through pocket spaces, finally the Porous spaces relate to the flooding overtime in which we vary our massing typologies to allow for an unobstructed flow of water at different scenarios; and outdoor public spaces that can be flooded temporarily.
Housing The site’s housing typology is transformed according to the physical condition of the site. This gentle transformation of housing typology introduces people to a continuous spatial experience from the land to the waterfront. And the individual public realm around the linear housing mass responds to the cruise terminal by letting the water come into the courtyard.

Exhibition Hall The mixed use program includes a series of high density spaces with pockets of low density attractions tethered to the act of making and the maker’s spaces we developed. The exhibition hall exists in the longstanding Powerplant; a main anchor point to which a series of site activities are focused.

03 *JABEL MILA: MOUNTAIN OF WORDS
تل-أبيب אביב-תל
Considering the necessity for public services in the realm of public space to displaced populations and the ongoing Israel- Palestine conflict, we’ve designed a library for the spoken word. This library will not only allow for self education, (as libraries have done for centuries) but it will be devoted to the learning of Arabic and Hebrew, as language is key to communication, (and the understanding of cultures) particularly for two populations, that although are in peace, still carry resentment and distrust.

* Jabel Mila meaning “mountain of words” is derived from the Arabic word jabel meaning “mountain” and mila which is hebrew for “word”

04 PANKOW SPIELHAUS:
LEISURE NEIGHBORHOOD CONNECTIONS
The area of Pankow, Berlin consists of two neighborhoods separated by train tracks. Though the separation does not seem so grand, there is much difficulty traversing form one side to the other. In an attempt to unify the neighborhoods physically as well as socially, we propose a cultural center in which users of all ages and socioeconomic standing may come together in the form of leisure.

07 LILY PAD IN THE FOREST VDMC PORTUGUESE SPA CAMPUS (COMPETITION)
The cabin design harmoniously combines the concepts of a lily-pad in the forest and the Portuguese aesthetic. Blending nature with architecture provides a distinct identity that engages and involves the meditation retreat experience. The 50’ diameter pad holds a wood cain with a walkway bridge, a pie-shaped cut-out cabin presents the occupant with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, positioned within a circular landscape of local trees, plants, flowers, and terrace lookout point.

VDMC COMPETITION| SUMMER 20’
Energy & Sustainability The strategies and incorporation of solar power, rgeay water reues, regional vegitation, adn the use of local recycled building materials contributes to the sustainability of the cabin. The interior flooring is cork, the curve panel is engineered wood and the fireplace is set within a slate pane sladding. Left: Floor plan (left), wall detail (right) Right: Entryway metalwork (top), section through meditation room, lookout point, and water feature.
