Mission: To champion our member businesses and implement a comprehensive strategy to promote economic growth within our Council’s footprint.


Vision: “We Mean Business” The Hixson Council will work to communicate the wonderful attributes of Hixson and engage everyone to live, work, play, entertain, worship and enjoy the natural resources located in the Hixson community. Member businesses will have the opportunity to participate in something larger than themselves and their respective organizations.


Goal #1:

Networking Provide high quality programs & value‐added opportunities for members to interact that foster profitable business relationships.


Goal #2:

Advocacy Be a strong and consistent voice on behalf of the Hixson business community to help solve community issues in areas that undermine its ability to compete for economic development and workforce.


Goal #3:

Engage •Engage in conversations with business owners in the Northgate Mall area and emphasize that they are the market hub of Hixson. •Collaborate with the Downtown Chamber to pursue new unique, diverse restaurants and stores. •Encourage medical offices to locate in Hixson.


Goal #4:

Promotion •Become a thriving, highly effective voice in promoting businesses and natural resources in the Hixson Community. •Spearhead a Hixson Branding Initiative. •Communicate a clear and consistent message.

Promotion It is imperative that existing members understand the value of locating and doing business in the Hixson Community and that prospective members see the value in joining the Hixson Council.


Strategies • Provide benefits through innovative programs, services and leadership. • Regularly evaluate effectiveness of monthly programs.


Strategies Collaborate with neighborhoods and civic organizations on issues specific to the Hixson Business Community.


Strategies Continue to support the schools in the Hixson Council’s footprint through scholarships and by encouraging business partnerships.


Strategies Reconnect with large employer groups in the Hixson Council’s footprint and encourage them to become involved. Utilize their expertise.


Strategies Actively seek to include the non‐profits located in the Hixson Council’s footprint.


Communications Committee

Make use of various communication channels such as facebook and constant contact.


Communications Committee • Promote the benefits of Hixson through community magazines. • Promote & support Hixson community events.


Communications Committee • Work with other Hixson Civic organizations to coordinate projects.


Development Committee • Actively initiate conversations that revolve around bringing new businesses to Hixson


Development Committee • Research the type of businesses needed in the Hixson area.


Development Committee • Address issues like empty schools and store fronts, etc.


Education Committee Continue to provide assistance to area schools in the form of professional development scholarships. Hixson Elementary, Middle & High School Big Ridge Elementary McConnell Elementary Middle Valley Elementary Dupont Elementary Loftis Middle School Falling Water Elementary


Education Committee Provide support for the Reality Check Program at Hixson High School.


Education Committee Assist the schools by coordinating area professionals for speaking engagements and other “hands‐on” learning opportunities.


Image and Branding Collaboratively develop a a brand statement for the Hixson Community.


Image and Branding Use various social media tools to highlight the variety of businesses located in the Hixson footprint and include the natural resources in the Hixson: Community/Greenway Farms Chester Frost Park The River Walk Middle Valley Recreation Hixson Baseball Fields Vandergriff Park


Membership Committee Identify new business in the Hixson Council area and arrange for an on‐site visit. Our goal is to bring in 35 new businesses in 2011/2012.


Membership Committee • Call members who are up for renewal to establish a relationship • Invite them to our meetings • Determine if they are planning to renew their Chamber Membership.


Membership Committee • Create a membership “blitz” day. • Coordinate monthly “infomercials.”


Non-Profit Committee • Achieve participation of more non‐profits in our Hixson Council. • Recognize one non‐profit at each monthly meeting. • Ask local pastors to lead the invocation and pledge at each monthly meeting.


Program Committee Provide monthly speakers who bring information to the membership that is both timely and informative.


Program Committee Topics should focus on • Community events • Emerging business services • Political decisions affecting the Hixson community • Business tools • Networking • Marketing small business, etc.


Program Committee • Coordinate set‐up & take‐down of monthly meetings • Hire caterers


Program Committee Recognize a Business of the Month and Give a Beautification Award each month.


Summary The Hixson Council has a strong influence from the banking, hospital, retail, utilities and service industries.


Summary The heart of our geographic area is primarily business‐to‐consumer businesses. Northgate Mall and the WalMart shopping centers are prime examples.
