Brief:

Peter and Paul

Create two designs to go on the two designated wall spaces in the shared Graphic design area. Create designs that are relevant to all users within the spaces and create a link between both pieces. Remember to keep in mind restrictions such as space and budget.

Interior wall spaces

Concept:

Create a set of designs that are a reminder towards students about life outside of Graphic design. Often we can become caught up in the world of BA HONS Graphic design that we forget about life outside of Graphic design, which is not only detrimental to our health or social life, but also leaves us dry of information or Ideas. The designs using both type and image reflect the parts of life that we should always stay involved in alongside work.

Research

Our main inspirations came from the environment in which the designs will be housed. Around the area are lots of splashes of teal and pink, mostly resident in neon tube lights combined with exposed metal, these visual components acted as our aesthetic inspirations. Our content came from involving other students who use the area, asking them what activities they like to partake in outside of university and where they find their inspiration.

My resolution

The outcome I designed focused mainly on type and created a stand out message ‘There is more to life than Graphic design’ in a script style type, allowing the message to be bold but also somewhat fun and lighthearted. The production of the type was inspired by the environment, playing of the use of metal and the neon colours within the area. The ability to laser cut the materials in-house to mount on the wall would also succeed at keeping costs down.

Danielle's resolution

Danielle created the design for the other wall which focused solely on image and illustration representing the activities suggested by other course members that they enjoy doing outside of Graphic design. The Illustrations will fit well into the surrounding space using the same colour pallet by cutting the illustrations out of teal and neon pink vinyl and placing them in a pattern on the remaining upstairs wall.
