What is a Rain forest?

A rain forest is a biome. A Biome is a place where plants and animals live. The rain forests are full of trees. If there were no trees at the rain forest, there won’t be any rain forest, because animals at the rain forest needs trees for their shelter, and monkeys like to stay on trees and they also like to hang on trees, also for gorillas. Scientists call the rain forest The Lungs of the World.

In the old times, the rain forest takes up 40% of the world, which is good. But now, peoples are chopping rain forests down, so the rain forest only takes up 5% of the world.

Almost every consonant has a rain forest, except Europe. Most of the tropical rain forest is located at North of South America.

Why is a Rain forest important? A rain forest is important because most of the food we eat comes from the rain forest. If there were no rain forest than our world will be burning hot, because the rain forest rain all the times! So the rain forest is very wet and the wetness makes our world cool enough for us to live on. If all the rain forests are cut down the sick people won’t have medicine to fix their sickness, because medicines comes from the rain forest plants. The trees at the rain forest cleans our air, or else the air we breath in will be full of Carbon dioxide and all of us will die. A rain forest makes 40% of earth 5

oxygen a day. The rain forest makes oxygen by putting sunlight, water and Carbon dioxide together. The rain forest cleans our dirty water into clean water. It also makes clean water by using rain and cleans the rain and makes it into water.

The four Layers of the Rain forest There are four layers in the Rain forest. The rain forest goes by top to bottom. The first layer is called the Emergent Layer. Then, it’s the Canopy. Next is the Understory. Then, at last it’s the Forest Floor. The Emergent layer is at the top of the Rain forest. The Canopy is under the Emergent layer. The one that’s under Canopy is the Understory. And at last, the one at the bottom is the Forest Floor. The Emergent Layer is the brightest part of the rain forest. The trees

that reach the

Emergent Layer

are the trees

about 100 to

240ft, and

30.5m-73m tall. There are even trees that are higher 7

than 250ft or 76m tall. The animals that lives there are mostly the ones that knows how to fly. But you may find some that don’t. Many bird live at the Emergent Layer. There are also lots of bats at the Emergent Layer. Canopy is also pretty bright but a little darker then the Emergent layer. The tree at the Canopy is the tree that is

60-130ft, and

18-40m.

That is where most

of the rain

forest animals live,

because

most of the food in

the rain forest is at the Canopy. The Understory is very still and shady. There you will find some small trees and trunks of taller trees. The Understory is a home for many animals too. Most of the 8

Rain forest reptiles and insects live at the Understory. The world

dangerous snakes

also live at

the Understory.

The

Forest Floor is dark

and shady. Not many plants live at the Forest Floor, but many animals live there. The Forest Floor is the stillest place in the

Rain forest.
