The restaurant is located in a rather unassuming plot of lush greenery close to the main road in Jalan Canguu Raya. Once you enter you will be greeted by stone statues of Buddha seated by the pond as you climb up a small set of stairs into the main yard. Their appearence will remind visitors of a mini village as the plot consists of several antique Joglos: one for the main eating area, a private dining area, a drink bar, yoga studio, small gazebo. Their ambience is rustic and natural, It’s common to see chickens roaming around the garden, and be accompanied by the sounds of a little stream that flows to a nearby river. The energy in Taman Nauli is quiet & calming and is comfortably full with seemingly satisfied patrons. The staff gave us a warm greeting, they were friendly and assisted us tremendously. The menu is contains a variety of

Indonesian, Asian and Western dishes. Its flavour has a homecooked taste and an affordable price range. My personal favorite would be the Tuna tataki salad, the chewy ponzumarinated tuna mixed with crunchy textures of the garden salad was an absolute delight! My main course was one of their specialties, the Pad Thai. The portion was generous with the price of only IDR 45,000. I finished it off with the ‘Green Juice’ a healthy blend of Apple, X & kale.

INTERVIEW
Tell me about yourself and what do you do? Lets just start with my name, my name is Dhio Adhinugra Marendra. I am studying dentistry at Padjadjaran University. Currently I act as founder and creative director of FEELS, a fashion brand that me and Dimas Bestari developed since November 2016. I have no fashion degree or what so ever, and I have never considered myself as a fashion designer. That tittle is way too grand for my qualification. One thing I know for sure since a very long time ago is that I enjoy fashion so much. I did designed all the products for our debut collection, I do have passion for fashion designing and I try to learn and improve it, but I never see that someday I would ever be called as a fashion designer. Its for somebody else. The matter of fact, I knew from the start that this tittle is for somebody else, I knew that very soon somebody with the right skills and experience should take that position at FEELS and now we are very fortunate to have my bestfriend Dea Yuliana Kombaitan as the designer for our second collection which we will soon unveil in February 2018. Ive let you know about what I do, and since you also asked me to tell you about my self, ill try to tell it in a very short way. I am boy (I never want to be a man. Hahahahaha. But realy, I like to keep the little me somewhere inside cause the little Dhio always reminds me about my goals and dreams) with so many dreams. And I love all things that is aesthetic, but my true love is for music. 2. According to you, favorite part of being a fashion designer is? As I state before I have never seen myself as a fashion designer, but I did designed the FEELS debut collection, and from that experience I have three things I couldn’t decide which one I love more: • To be able to actualy see the design as a product. • To work with my team, listen to them, and working together to bring the whole concept into life. Wether from the design point of view or from the business point of view. • To hear what people think about the brand, the products, and to actualy see them wearing it with each of their own personalities and styles. 3. What skills do you think are important for a successful fashion designer? I’ve just started. Me and Dimas have thrown ourself in this field for only a few months. Our brand cant merely called a baby
48
SAUVAGE
in comparation to others. But in these short few months I’ve learned that fashion is not an art, fashion is an industry. And by discovering that my point of view has completely changed. For fashion designer to succeed needs so much more than their designing skills. They have to understand the brand it self, who they’re designing for, what value will they offer to them, what is the messege that they would like to say, would that be relevant with what the brand story tries to tell, and so many more. In a short sentence, in order to succeed, I think designer have to understand the whole industry point of view. The bussines point of view. Someone told me that building a fashion brand needs 10% designing skills and 90 percent management and business skills, and somehow its true. That doesn’t mean that design isn’t important, its extremely important, so important that having a good designs and good quality is the price of entry. But without the business skills you wont be able to survive. 4. What qualifications are required for a fashion designer’s career? 1. creativity 2. hardwork 3. open minded 4. flexibility 5. endurance 6. great problem solving skills 7. warchfull eye 8. attention to details 5. How do you keep up to date about fashion? One: internet baby (that includes social media) Two: magazines, I feel like books on any fields have and will always have its position. 6. What do you think about the ethics of work and the type of ethics you believe in working with fashion? Man, ive just started. But one thing I discovered here is that you couldnt take this industry lightly. Ive read some books, articles, and watch interviews, also read some biography, and its though out there. You couldn’t pull it off without professionalism certainly. One thing that I found tricky from my experience from these past short months is that you need to dance with creativitiy but march with professionalism. 7. Say something about your background? Boleh pake Bahasa Indonesia ya. Family background: saya ga bisa bilang saya datang dari keluarga yang secara ekonomi sulit sekarang. Bisa saya bilang kami berkecukupan sekarang, but were not like rich or whatever.

Hahahahahah. Amin. My parents have quite conventional mindset, and for them its education first. It’s not wrong at all, I know where it came from. They are a dentist and also lecturer and they have been fortunate enough to be able to pursue their education to the highest level possible here. That’s just how people do it back then: Play safe, they expect me to do the same. They just want me to be safe. So it’s a little hard for me at first to convince them about me also taking my chance in this very competitive industry. But they end up being very supportive. Education background: TK: Mutiara Bunda, SD: Priangan, SMP & SMA: Taruna Bakti, dan sekarang mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Gigi UNPAD. Already got my degree and now undergoing my co-ass program at Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut UNPAD. 8. What do you consider important in the fashion industry aspect? Quality, understanding the market, differential value, creativity, forecasting, and last but not least: timing . 9. Who is handling the project? Im incharge. But who is handilng the project? its definitely all of us, and theres 7 of us. Hahaha. 10. Motto and quotes your life? Never a failure always a lesson. I stole it from Rihanna. 11. How do you describe your personal style? I usualy don’t describe it because I feel like its constantly changing. But I think this sentence could sums it up “a little statement wont hurt”. 12. How do you handle stress? Eat. SING (my true passion). Go back to work immediately as soon as your mind cleared. 14. How comfortable do you work with other models and designers? Never had a chance to work with other designer except Dea, but so far Dea has been superb. She taught me a lot of things. I do believe in collaboration rather than competition, but I would like to say that FEELS needs to grow on its own for sometime before we open the door to a collaboration project. I love working with models. I love how each of them could bring in a unique vibe to the visuals we are trying to achieve. But working with the right one who will send the right visual messege is very important to me. 15. How do you connect past and present fashion trends? Fashion reflects culture, and values within a culture could shift.
I like how some elements of fashion that reflects a certain culture and value could be applicable to another culture in another time when that similar value discovered by others and resurface. Cause every time it resurface people have a twist on it. Theres a cycle. I always love to see how designers could bring back the old ones and turned it new. 16. What are the trends you currently see in the fashion industry? Normcore Gorpcore Menocore The world is much influenced by the gorpcore now, but much of Indonesian people still look after the menocore and normcore. Those two still fits well with the Indonesian for now. 17. Messages for fashion people? Continue inspiring others. And of course, check us out : @Feelsthelabel We are launching our website soon too. Wait for it. 18. Which country do you like? ITALY. 20. Who is your favorite designer? I cant name just one. Seriously. But lately I love Samuel Ross 21. Where do you see yourself in the next ten years? 1. Ill be a dentist. And also a specialist, and got my PhD. Amin 2. I hope FEELS would have gone to international level. But before that I hope feels would have been the top of mind of Indonesian streetwear brand. Amin. Not to be offensive but I believe in setting my goals up there in the heaven for all of my dreams. 3. The list will goes on and on the mags wouldn’t fit my answer. 22. The most proud achievement? Smilemotion Concert. Me and my friends at FKG UNPAD initiated the first Smilemotion Concert about 4 years ago, and it still going on annually until now. It is a charity concert, we donate the profit tolip and palate cleft foundation called YPPCBL (Yayasan Pembina Penderita Celah Bibir dan Langit – langit) to fund the surgery needed for kids with lip and palate cleft. We discussed about the concept and presented it to the faculty, and i was entrusted to be the first Project Officer of the event. Though we have very little experience about event organising at the time, weve managed to gain quite a significant amount of profit to be donated to YPPCBL from the first Smilemotion Concert when so many other first timers have failed even to reach BEP. I believe that’s the power of ‘”give and take law” takin its part there. God is good. Its a lot of work but it payed off. That’s my proudest achievement. And im still super proud now watching how the event grows each year. Seeing the actual

INTERVIEW
Tell us a little bit about yourself? I’m Diaz, cursed by style, but I don’t let it enslave me. To spread this infection is part of my passion, and to share what I have experienced is part of my diversion. I’m a creative director with an eye to play for fashion, a lifestyle watcher with verbal skill through graphic and digital art, an illustrator with an edge, a versatile artist both in commercial and non-commercial areas, and media frenzy. My works include creative design & presentation for advertisements, magazine articles, graphic designs, photo shoots, digital imaging, fashion shows & fashion education. What sparked your interest in fashion? Mainly the art of it, not so much on the “prestige” side. I like how fashion (and the re-arrangement of it) can change people’s look and character from time to time. What made you take fashion more seriously and make a career out of it? I never planned it actually. I just like to draw since I was very young. Got a scholarship in a fashion school in Singapore and that’s how it started. Graduated, worked as a mess product fashion designer and I hated it. So I “cheated”, I used the office laptop to play around with Adobe Photoshop and Illlustrator, and voila, I started the illustration trend for the magazines in the early 2000. As time goes by, my workloads merged to different layers. I became a lecturer and program director for an international fashion school for 11 years, and along with that I also did various creative directing works for advertorial, editorial, campaign, and fashion events. And all of their diversity fit my interests very well. Are you self taught or did you get formal training? Both. The only formal training I got was fashion production, on how to develop pattern from a design, cut them and sew them into a complete garment. But hey, I ended up not using them. Instead, my curiosity on design softwares was the thing that leads me to where my work are now. Talk us about your fashion collages/illustration, where do gain inspiration? Movies, music, childhood memories.

INTERVIEW
Whats your most memorable experience while working as a creative director / stylist? On 2007. That was the time I had my creative energy at the peak of its hyperexplosion. I composed what I called a “Fashion Play”, it was basically a graduation show for LaSalle International Jakarta students where I was working at the time. But I made it as a theatrical show, I wrote the storyline, came out with the script and combining actors, dancers, ballerinas, and models into one gig completed with multimedia show and special music and lighting arrangement to support the story that I created. It was crazy! I understand you’re a fashion lecturer too, whats a common piece of advice you would give to your students? I always remind them every time they finished designing, I asked, “Would you wear it?” If they shake their head, they know they better figure out something else haha… What are you fascinated by at the moment and how does it feed into your all your work? Spontaneity. I used to be a control freak before. Now I am more easy breezy, try to work outside the box and expect the unexpected (in a good way though) and to surprise myself for not really knowing what the final result would look like. How do you stay updated on the current trends? Honestly, I try not so much following on what’s trending. When most people are doing it, it becomes boring and predictable. Can you describe your personal style ? Anti-establishment since 1975. Not a mainstream, but neither extreme. I like my clothes to be sleek, light, and a bit sloppy with style. Tank tops, funky trousers and flip flop are usually my treasures. Do you have a muse that feeds into your work? No I don’t have. What is your dream job/collaboration/project? Directing high fashion motion editorial. Haven’t done that yet! What are your plans for the future? any exciting projects coming up? Every project coming my way, I make them all exciting ;-) Say hello to Diaz on Instagram @filthygorgeouz http://whoisdiaz.wixsite.com/findout

Where do you come from ? Tell us about yourself and starting with awesome art ? Halo, I’m Warsito Wahyudha from Subang and also I was born 20 years ago in Subang. I graduated from vocational school and majored in mechanical engineering. During those three years I was not interested in the majors I took but I prefer the world that I really love, the art of drawing. Since childhood I love to draw someone’s face, and until now I continue to develop my self-taught drawing skills. And get pocket money from hobby How did you make the decision to pursue art as career? Actualy, I prefer to make illustration as my side job, where I can still work while refreshing the mind that is stressed by the main job. Would you describe the artistic experience as spiritual one? I find inner satisfaction every time I draw. Do you have any advice for aspiring artist? The most important thing is to be yourself, develop your artistic skill whatever it is, appreciate everyone who thinks about your work and keeps thinking positive. Who are influences? Justin Maas, Arinze Stanley, and my parents. As an artist, do you have a favorite color? I love the yellow color because it gives the impression like cheerful and also I love the monochrome because the monochrome color looks mysterious and simple like me. LOL. But I also like other colors. How do you keep the mood when making work? and if you get stuck what will you do? To keep the mood while doing whatever it is, for my personal music and food. I love cassava chips by the way. And when I get stuck I try to lie back relax and listen to music, because I believe music can change one’s thinking and restore a bad mood. How did you feel, when Duckie reposted your art on Instagram? Of course for artists whose work is appreciated will certainly feel happy and the most important thing for me is to get more confident level. because confidence is very important and needed for me who want to become professional artist. Can you explain the techniques behind your art? For the technique I learned a bit about grid techniques and I always use that technique to draw portraits. For my tools just use a pencil degan HB, 2B, 5B and 8B thickness, ordinary rubber eraser, tissue, cotton bud, same A4 size sketchbook. why A4? Because the size is most fitting in my opinion. Because I live in the countryside and I do not like complicated so I choose the tools that are easily searchable images anywhere. Why choose drawing Duckie Thot? any special reason? what makes you eager to make it? I love her skin, i love her lip and she is very unique from other models. I had read that she was also a victim of bullying when she was 17 years old, but could rise above all that. That’s why I draw Duckie. Are there plans to make your gallery and art exhibition? what goals will you pursue in the near future? What artist does not want to have his own art gallery?! For now I prefer to develop the existing drawing skills. Because I have no basic art education, I am still learning on my own. Check him out @wahyudhart SAUVAGE
