Tennis Elbow Therapy
A device that aids the user in recovering from lateral elbow tendinopathy and to prevent it from reoccurring.
Individual final year major project. 2020 - ongoing.
1 in 3 people have tennis elbow at any given time.
5 in every 1,000 people go to see their GP about tennis elbow.
35 - 60 y/o
1/4 brief
People who either for work or hobby perform repetitive hand or wrist motions.
secondary research
who’s the user?
Injury occurs at the tendon when the muscles in the forearm is repeatedly engaged its an overuse injury
Pain is felt when the muscles are engaged. The muscles are engaged when gripping and extending the wrist.
The muscles that flexes the fingers also has the potential to flex the wrist, so the extendor muscles are engaged to keep the wrist straight which can cause pain.
what’s the problem?
In some movements like when lifting a hammer the wrist is straight so both flexor and extendor muscles will be engaged.
how does it happen?

Job
Patient has successful airflow
Easy to manoeuvre into patient's mouth
Gains
Intubate the Patient
Has a good angle to illuminate the throat
Can see the throat very clearly Easy to slide in the intubation tube
Don't have to get very close to the patient Manoeuvre the Laryngoscope safely
Feeling good about the work Be mindful of patient
Sterile Practice
Easy to assemble the blade and handle
Looking confident Sterile & Clean
Quick to discard after use
No worry of contamination
Gains Creators
Fully sterile and safe to use
Ergonomic form for comfortable hold and manoeuvre
Easy to slide tube into the trachea Ergonomic form to hold and manoeuvre
Easy to recharge
Seamless to assemble
Seamless to disassemble
Reusable Laryngoscope

Reusable electrical components
Rechargeable light source
Be mindful of time
Help the Environment
Looking Professional
Unaware of the quantity of waste that builds up over time
Upset the patient if tooth breaks or bleeding in throat occurs
Don't want to cause damage to environment
Unsure on which bin to use for certain components of different materials Wasteful feeling when throwing away after using it once e.g. batteries
Doesn't separate the different materials on blade, takes too much time Other important jobs to do than organising waste properly, busy schedule
Embarrassed to ask everyone to categorise waste accurately.
Patient could have a virus and user could catch it
Not required to dispose after every use, so no confusion with bins.
Minimal variety of materials
Reduced the amount of waste Ergonomic form to not cause harm to patient
Reduced waste being incinerated or going to landfill
Similar materials are used, less confusion for easier recycling
Designated area for intubation tube on Laryngoscope
No electronic waste
Recyclable
