Our Vision
BOARD
The Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition (SBBIKE) vision is that Santa Barbara will be a leader in creating a bicycle-friendly community and transportation system. Extensive on-road and separated bikeways, a coordinated transit system, parking, and amenities allow us to enjoy a culture where the majority of daily trips include a bicycle. As a result, our community is healthier and encourages balanced living within our resources. Universal cycling education for all ages
David Hodges, Chair Courtney Dietz, Vice Chair Diana O’Connell, Treasurer Frank Peters, Secretary David Campbell John Hygelund Tracey Strobel Amy Steinfeld
supports the development of safe and respectful road behaviors from both motorists and cyclists. Widespread community and political support for bicycling is in place. By 2040, because it is a cycling-centered county, Santa Barbara is both a great place to live and work and a nationally acclaimed cycling destination, boasting a year-round calendar of successful, fun, and inclusive events.

concerns? And lanes connecting those same neighborhoods to schools? How about this—cities where longtime bicycle commuters once relegated to roads made for cars only are no longer invisible but, rather, an obvious, equally valued part of our multimodal transportation system? Can you imagine a county where every kid learns to bicycle safely in school?
Diana La Riva, Volunteer Coordinator diana@sbbike.org
GOVT. LIAISONS & ADVISORS Matt Dobberteen, Advisor County of Santa Barbara matt@cosbpw.net Kent Epperson, Advisor Traffic Solutions kepperson@sbcag.org Teresa Lopes, Advisor City of Goleta tlopes@cityofGoleta.org
Where organizations collaborate to ensure the kids who don’t have bikes at home can access one? How about a county dappled with DIY shops and community cycling hubs, so volunteers and community can learn together and refurbish bikes for those kids and fix their own rides? Centers where anyone and everyone can come for affordable recycled parts and bikes, to commune, and to ride together socially? Then, can you conceive of investing in those visions and having your investment grow more than 200 times what you put in? SBBIKE has harnessed the power of the sun. That’s right. Bici and SBBIKE’s HQ are solar powered. And that’s amazing. (How that came to be is a great story about collaboration to achieve goals with far-reaching effects.) I believe SBBIKE’s true genius is in harnessing the power of people who are so clearly able to imagine that they simply go about bringing their visions to life. Thank you to the many whose power of imagination and action are spreading like rays across Santa Barbara County. Yours truly,
Holly Starley
