* Do not have a minimum GPA requirement * Do not have a language or major requirement * Offer between 2 and 6 UC and/or CSU transferable units * Are programs for students 18+ at time of departure * Are perfect to get an introduction to another culture while earning academic credits * Make it possible for students who also work to get a study abroad experience without having to take much time off work * Are eligible for scholarships & financial aid
SCHOLARSHIPS & FINANCIAL AID In addition to applying for financial aid through FAFSA, several scholarships are available for Study Abroad Programs.
BENJAMIN A. GILMAN SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship program offers financial assistance to community college students who have limited experience in studying abroad. If you are eligible for financial aid, you are encouraged to apply. The Gilman Scholarship provides over 2,000 awards of up to $5,000 per year. Apply at http://www.gilmanscholarship.org
STUDY ABROAD FACTS 98% of students who studied abroad get into their preferred choice of University or get employed within the 1st year of graduating SBCC Study Abroad programs usually cost half or less than University programs, offer more expeditions & often share the same instructors & facilities as more expensive programs Most SBCC Study Abroad programs are faculty-led, allowing SBCC to offer diverse programs, classes and destinations around the world Check the specific program brochures for more detailed information.
FUND FOR EDUCATION ABROAD Established in 2010, FEA grants scholarships for up to $10,000, raising awareness of Study Abroad benefits to the individual and value to the collective. Apply at http://fundforeducationabroad.org/apply/
Spring and Fall Semester Programs * Have a minimum 2.5 GPA requirement * Do not have a language or major requirement * May require ENG110 * Offer between 12- 16 UC and/or CSU transferable units * Are programs for students 18+ who have successfully completed 12 College level units by the time of departure * Are eligible for scholarships & financial aid * May offer an internship opportunity * May offer a deferred payment plan
Applicants do not need to be a current SBCC student, but would enroll for the program semester
