WELCOME TO CREALDÉ SCHOOL OF ART CREALDE.ORG OUR OTHER TWO LOCATIONS Hannibal Square Heritage Center, Crealdé’s second campus, represents a partnership with the City of Winter Park, and pays tribute to the past, present and future contributions of Winter Park’s African-American community through an award-winning permanent collection of historic photographs and oral histories. Established by Crealdé in 2007, the center also features visiting visual art exhibitions and educational programs that explore Southern folklore and cultural preservation.
Crealdé School of Art is a community-based nonprofit organization established in 1975. We feature an affordable, sequential curriculum of more than 125 studio courses and workshops in Painting & Drawing, Digital & Film Photography, Ceramics, Sculpture, Fiber Arts, Glass and Jewelry for adults and children, with hands-on experience emphasized. There are five 8-week sessions per year; youth class sessions are six weeks, plus there are Summer ArtCamp sessions. Crealdé School of Art

Hannibal Square Heritage Center is located in downtown Winter Park, 642 W. New England Ave., Winter Park, FL, 32789. The galleries are open noon–4 p.m. Tuesday– Thursday, noon–5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Saturday. Phone 407-539-2680. Admission is free.
In addition, Crealdé offers an award-winning scholarship and outreach program to diverse 2017 CREALDÉ SESSIONS communities in Central Florida. The two galleries Winter: Jan. 23–March 18 on the main campus present a changing variety of Spring: March 27–May 20 visual art exhibitions ArtCamp: June 5-July 28 by artists from Florida, the nation and the world. Summer Adult: June 12-August 5 The Contemporary Sculpture Garden overlooking Summer Youth: June 19-July 22 Lake Sterling features more than 60 pieces of original art. Jan. 27-April 29 Jack King: Searching for Truth Since the 1980s, Tampa-based artist Jack King says stories of Cuban rafters seeking freedom became a haunting theme, begging him to question how people throughout time, around the world, have given up everything to make uncertain quests over water – an element that can be survived however terrifying the journey. Nautical elements find their way into his largesize sculptures, made primarily from wood, acrylic and steel; his wall pieces are made from cast iron, wood, enamel and acrylic. On display at the Alice & William Jenkins Gallery and at the Hannibal Square Heritage Center. Free.
Jan. 14-April 15 Director’s Choice VI Crealdé’s diverse professional faculty of influential arts educators and accomplished artists takes the spotlight in this exhibition of new works in photography, painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture and fiber arts. Free.
April 28-July 29 A Look Back/Coming Back: Works by Henry Sinn Mixed media painter and sculptor Henry Sinn presents past work as well as new pieces created since taking a hiatus from the creative process. Sinn, the former Crealdé director of Painting & Drawing, creates from intuition, tapping into a primal spirit to explore the mythical, metaphysical and earthly sides of life. The opening reception will be held from 7-9 pm Friday, April 28. Free.

TRAVELING EXHIBITIONS Through Feb. 27 St. Augustine at 450 Art in Public Spaces Gallery, Winter Garden Ten photographers captured the oldest city in the nation on the occasion of its 450th anniversary, exploring St. Augustine’s history, preservation efforts and place as a tourist destination, college town and home to a diverse population. Saturday, January 14, 5-8 pm Crealdé Sixth Annual A Night of Fire The Winter Park main campus comes alive after dark for the sixth annual A Night of Fire. Tour the studios and galleries, participate in art workshops and demonstrations including welding, kiln and raku firing, and painting and drawing. After sunset, watch a spectacular light painting photography display over Lake Sterling. Hands-on youth workshops are offered early in the evening from 5-6:30 pm, then enjoy live music, refreshments and storytelling around the fire, as well as additional hands-on workshops for adults until 8 p.m. Visit the opening of the Director’s Choice VI exhibition in the galleries. Food from the grill is provided by Millers Hardware of Winter Park with microbrews served from The Hourglass Brewery in Longwood. Free.
Monday, Jan. 16 Martin Luther King Jr. Day The main campus front office and galleries will be closed, and will reopen at 9 am Tuesday, Jan. 17. Saturday, March 11, 10 am-2 pm Sixth Annual Crealdé Free Family Art Festival Registration for our popular Summer ArtCamp (ages 4 to 17) kicks off with this festival on the main campus. Saturday, April 22, 10 am-4 pm Eighth Annual Hannibal Square Heritage Center Folk & Urban Art Festival The annual festival celebrates cultural diversity through art and music. Florida artists and artisans offer their works for sale on the grounds outside the Hannibal Square Heritage Center, which is open for viewing with special exhibits by cultural guests. The all-day community entertainment lineup includes music by the Porchdogs Cajun and Zydeco Band and a performance by the Orisirisi African Folklore troupe. Youngsters create costumes in the “Kidfolk” workshop, followed by a public parade. Food trucks offer soul food specialties. Hannibal Square Heritage Center, Winter Park. Free.

WKF05 Contemporary Papermaking with Hanji Instructor: Hye Shin WINTER Saturday, February 4 10 am-5 pm, Studio 7 Learn the history and techniques of hanji, a traditional Korean paper made from the paper mulberry tree. Hanji is known for its long and strong fibers and has a variety of applications such as windows, books, artwork and clothes. Create thin mulberry papers and 3-D art forms using hanji with double-molding and papers with inclusions. Most materials provided. Students should bring towel and inclusions such as onion skin, flower petals, dried fern leaves, gold and

Instructor: Stefan Alexandres WINTER Saturday, 10 am-2 pm, Studio 7, 4 weeks This class is the gateway for filigree jewelry fabrication and designing. The first class begins with fundamental instructions to make metal threads and overview the process with samples, demos and hands-on projects. In the next class, students will fabricate a variety of filigree components as needed to assemble a design. The final two classes are for completing the works and exploring beyond the limits of traditional patterns, creating a contemporary vision. Class will not meet February 4. Learn solid glass-forming techniques, as you create a flower. Each petal will be of your own design as you pull the molten glass into form. Students learn the basics of glassblowing while creating one-of-a-kind ornaments. Light refreshments provided. Members $110 • Non-members $130 Brandon Price is from Akron, Ohio, and began his glass career more than 13 years ago at Bowling Green State University under the tutelage of Robert “Bud” Hurlstone. His love of glass-blowing afforded him the opportunity to work and study in 43 states and on three continents. His partnership with David Sandidge over the past decade has led to the culmination of the nation’s first International Hot Glass.

WKJ04 The Art of the Jeweler’s Saw NEW Instructor: Stefan Alexandres WINTER Sunday, March 12 Noon-5 pm, Studio 7 Explore how to use a jeweler’s saw to cut the most intricate designs and silhouettes on sheet metal. Learn how to achieve delicate cuts, where shears can’t. Learn how jewelers produce precession designs in the fabrication of rings, pendants, bracelets, necklaces, three-dimensional jewelry, and old coins. Mixed media artists/metal-smiths learn to create unique parts for art work (decorative hinges, small sculptures and silhouettes). Sawing metal is inspiring and has endless possibilities! A sculptor and jeweler, he draws inspiration for his work from history, mythology, folk tales and real life. WKS03 Concrete Sculpture Workshop NEW Instructor: Sandro Pelicie Perez WINTER Saturday, Feb. 14 and Feb. 18 9 am-4 pm, Studio 6 Learn to carve a sculpture starting from a large Styrofoam maguette. Learn how to apply cement creating a durable surface for outdoor art. The art work will be finished using colorful stains and sealers. This collaborative work will go on display in the Contemporary Sculpture Garden. Members $150 • Non-members $170 Sandro Pelicié Pérez combine his skills in sculpture, scenic art, and decorative concrete to create themed outdoor living spaces. He received his BA in sculpture in 1997 from Academie National des Bellas Arte San Alejandro, Havana, Cuba. His work has been exhibited internationally and in public and private collections.

Learn the basics of stone, safety issues, the basic tools, the instructor’s biases, final polishing and work critique. Workshop stresses free-form carving with hand tools. Each student will be provided with a 20 pound-plus piece of alabaster to begin their carving experience. Members $275 • Non-members $295 Richard Saunders is a juried stone carver who found his art 12 years ago with mentor Elizabeth Kelsey (“Winkie”), of Hanover, New Hampshire. He is experienced with marble, alabaster, limestone and soapstone, and was awarded a prize in a major juried show at Ava Gallery, Lebanon, New Hampshire. He works with stone in the weight ranges of 50 to 150 pounds. Although he uses power devices, this introductory workshop will not involve such tools; their role in stone carving will be discussed.

Learn about project development, implementation, caption writing and finishing a body of work for exhibition. Through a partnership with the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation and in the tradition of muchrecognized past Crealdé documentary projects, “The Lake” will be featured in two major Central Florida gallery exhibitions in late 2017 and early 2018. The wet plate process is experiencing a renaissance and is now practiced by wellknown contemporary photographers such as Sally Mann and Joni Sternbach. Learn how to pour collodion to make positive images on glass and aluminum (ambrotypes and tintypes) and create glass negatives which can be contact printed. He is an exceptional Wet Plate Collodion artist who not only captures the modern world using this civil war era alternative process, but also makes much of his own “Hat on a Post”, Tim Telkamp, wet plate photograph wet plate equipment and mixes his own wet plate chemicals. His photographs have been published in books, newspapers and magazines, and he wrote and illustrated “The Place That’s Always with You.” He completed his Certificate in Documentary Arts from the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University and earned a BSEE from the University of Central Florida. Leah Sobsey is an artist and educator. She received her M.F.A. from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2001 and completed the Resident Certificate Program at the Maine Photographic Workshops in 1997. Her work has been exhibited widely and is in private collections across the country. In addition to the Center for Documentary Studies, she has taught at the San Francisco Art Institute, Duke University, and the Maine Photographic Workshops. She currently teaches at UNC-Greensboro.
