Crealdé School of Art is a community-based nonprofit organization established in 1975. We feature an affordable, sequential curriculum of more than 125 studio courses and workshops taught by professional artist instructors in Painting & Drawing, Film & Digital Photography, Ceramics, Sculpture, Fiber Arts, and Jewelry for adults and children, with hands-on experience emphasized. There are five 8-week sessions per year, plus Summer ArtCamp and Young Adult Immersion.

Hannibal Square Heritage Center, Crealdé’s second campus, represents a partnership with the City of Winter Park, and pays tribute to the past, present and future contributions of Winter Park’s African American community through an award-winning permanent collection of historic photographs and oral histories. Established by Crealdé in 2007, the center also features visiting visual art exhibitions and educational programs that explore Southern folklore and cultural preservation.

In addition, Crealdé offers an award-winning scholarship and outreach program to diverse communities in Central Florida.

The Permanent Collection of Hannibal Square

The Hannibal Square Heritage Center’s permanent collection of archival framed photographs and oral histories depict family and community life spanning 100 years, and tells the history of a community from the perspective of those who have lived it. It has helped to ensure that the contributions of historic Hannibal Square are remembered. It will feature pieces that are normally not on display, including newly unveiled images and oral histories from Peter Schreyer’s 1994-95 Winter Park Library historic research grant project. Refund/Withdrawal Policies In order to maintain the quality of our programs, we require minimum number of enrolled students. Therefore, the following policies are in place for refunds, transfers, and withdrawals: CLASSES A transfer, withdrawal, credit, or refund must be requested 7 days prior to the first day of the session (see session dates above) by contacting the main office at 407-671‑1886 during business hours or email registration@crealde.org. Requests made less than 7 days before the first day of the session are not eligible. Class credits expire after one year. These policies apply regardless of attendance status. WORKSHOPS All workshop withdrawal deadlines are at least one week prior to the workshop date. Registration deadlines for visiting artist workshops will vary. If withdrawal is made prior to deadline, student is eligible for a full refund. No refunds or credits will be made after the registration deadline.

Spirits in the Silver: Discovering Lost Film by Laurie Hasan February 9–April 20, 2024 | 7–10pm Opening Reception & Gallery Talk | Friday, February 9 | 7–10pm Showalter Hughes Community Gallery

This exhibition is a showcase of vintage photographs that multidisciplinary artist Laurie Hasan has recovered from abandoned rolls of exposed film. Laurie rescues film left behind in discarded antique cameras that she has acquired from all over the world. The collection includes hand-made platinum palladium prints of some of the most compelling images she has recovered. In some cases, she has identified the people and places depicted and has located their families. Learn the stories behind the images and how they were rescued. Enjoy interactive videos that show the making of a platinum print and a photo restoration. Explore a working vintage camera and examine various sized negatives on a light table. The Creative Concept of Vincent Sansone

February 16–May 25, 2024 Opening Reception & Gallery Talk | Friday, February 18 | 7–10pm Alice & William Jenkins Gallery This exhibition is a retrospective of a ceramic master who contributed a lifetime of excellence to the ceramics and exhibition programs at Crealdé School of Art. A revered artist and educator with 50 years of experience as a professional potter, Vincent Sansone joined the Crealdé faculty in the mid-1970s, shortly after the school opened and served as the Ceramics Studio and Program Manager from 2002–2022. Sansone was also an Assistant Professor of Ceramics Art at Valencia College. He was awarded his MFA in Ceramics and his BFA in Painting at Southern Illinois University, and he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. Spring: April 15 –June 9, 2024

15th Annual Hannibal Square Heritage Center Folk & Urban Art Festival

Saturday, April 27 | 10am–4pm Shady Park across from Hannibal Square Heritage Center Organized and curated by Hannibal Square Heritage Center Manager Barbara Chandler, the festival celebrates Central Florida’s richly diverse culture through live musical entertainment and the artwork of select folk and urban artisans. Metal sculpture is known as Repoussé, which is working the metal directly to create relief sculptures without molds. Participants will learn the technique in small scale to learn the fundamental steps and tools for metal embossing. Repoussé is embossing relief sculptures and have endless design possibilities for sculptural jewelry and metalsmithing, relief murals, doors, mirrors, etc. Emphasis on using your personal drawings and ideas, working with handmade punches to move the metal, for creating relief dimension. Learn how to make silver rings with a variety of designs. Focus on learning the fundamental fabrication techniques and procedures, working with sterling or fine silver for custom-made rings. Explore how to use the jewelers saw and shears for cutting metal, filing, drilling for piercing, forming for shaping, sweat soldering for joining components, and buffing polishing. Included are bezel stone-setting and gemstones to completely finish your ring project. Members $350 • Non-members $370

Metal folding and forming techniques. You will create dimensional jewelry and small sculptures. You can experience the plasticity of the metal, using grooving hammers to shape dimensional forms working with copper sheets without molds or stamps. Private Classes For a private, one-on-one learning experience, consider these opportunities to study with a Crealdé professional artist/instructor. Create a schedule and learning curriculum that fits your needs and availability. Macramé is a form of textile that uses knotting techniques and comes from the 13th century weavers’ word for “fringe.” This fiber art was popular in the 60s and 70s and now it is back and as popular as ever. Join local fiber artist Alyssa Foxson and embrace your inner boho goddess. Learn all the basic macramé knots needed to make a macramé wall hanging and beyond. Introducing Our New Ceramics Instructor Robert Reedy is best known for his sculpture-like teapots and other functional pottery referencing abstracted works. For instance, teapots may have a wire handle and exaggerated long and arching spout with small water chambers. Surface techniques include bright colors and patterns. Reedy is also known as a painter, printmaker, and mixed media artist. As a professor at the University of Central Florida, Reedy launched a class called “Advanced Design Lab,” bringing together art and engineering students to collaborate on commissioned projects. This class was the first of its kind at a university in the United States.

On day two, when the containers have been finished and fired, Jesus will demo the art of Ikebana and participants will make their own arrangements using their finished containers. WG/PH293 8 Weeks Instructor: Peter Schreyer SPRING | Tues: 5–7pm Skill: Advanced | Location: Studio 5 & on location in Winter Garden In this master class, the instructor will introduce students to the history and practices of documentary photography. While working on an actual documentary project, the advanced students will create a cohesive body of black and white photographs that tell the contemporary story of historic downtown Winter Garden, one of Central Florida’s most authentic small towns. Preference will be given to students who have previously participated in other documentary master classes with Peter Schreyer, including St. Augustine at 450, The Lake and The Las Vegas Project. The finished project will be exhibited for two months at the beautiful Art in Public Spaces Gallery at Winter Garden City Hall in November and December of 2024. Students may work with film or digital, must be able to produce their own exhibition quality prints and are responsible for the cost of matting and framing their selected images.
