WELCOME TO CREALDÉ SCHOOL OF ART OUR TWO OTHER LOCATIONS Hannibal Square Heritage Center, Crealdé’s second campus, represents a partnership with the City of Winter Park, and pays tribute to the past, present and future contributions of Winter Park’s African-American community through an award-winning permanent collection of historic photographs and oral histories. Established by Crealdé in 2007, the center also features visiting visual art exhibitions and educational programs that explore Southern folklore and cultural preservation.

Hannibal Square Heritage Center is located in downtown Winter Park, 642 W. New England Ave., Winter Park, FL, 32789. The galleries are open noon–4 p.m. Tuesday–Thursday, noon– 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Saturday. Phone 407-539-2680. Admission is free. Since 2010, Crealdé has partnered with the City of Winter Garden to offer a series of photography, painting, drawing, sculpture and ceramics classes for adults and children at the Jessie Brock Community Center, which serves as Crealdé’s third Central Florida teaching site.
Crealdé School of Art is a communitybased nonprofit organization established in 1975. We feature an affordable, sequential curriculum of more than 125 studio courses and workshops in Painting & Drawing, Photography, Ceramics, Sculpture, Fiber Arts, Glass and Jewelry for adults and children, with hands-on experience emphasized. There are five 8-week sessions per year, plus Summer ArtCamp.

Exploring heritage and folklore through the visual arts and humanities
Through September 2 Phase IX of The Heritage Collection: Hannibal Square Heroes Crealdé presents its newest phase of photographs and stories, celebrating ten women and men born or raised in Hannibal Square who became nationally known in their fields. Among others, the exhibition explores the lives of Tuskegee Airman Richard Hall, Orange County Public School Superintendent Dr. Barbara Jenkins, and nationally celebrated Gospel singers and educators Horace and James Boyer. The exhibition is curated by Hannibal Square historians Fairolyn Livingston and Mary Daniels.
Storytellers XVII: West of the East Coast Tracks Through June 24 at the Mary S. Harrell Black Heritage Museum in New Smyrna Beach July 1 – August 14 at Arts on Douglas in New Smyrna Beach Since 1996, Crealdé’s Storytellers Teen Documentary Photography Program has given photography instruction to students ages 13-17, providing the opportunity for self-expression while exploring the heritage of their home community. Storytellers XVII took place in the historic AfricanAmerican west-side community of New Smyrna Beach, where 12 students were mentored and taught by Crealdé photography faculty Peter Schreyer. The project represents a partnership between Crealdé and the Mary S. Harrell Black Heritage Museum. Storytellers XVII was unveiled May 7 at the Mary S. Harrell Black Heritage Museum in New Smyrna Beach, continuing through June 24. Then it moves to the Arts on Douglas gallery in New Smyrna Beach for an opening from 4 to 7 p.m. July 1, with brief talks by Schreyer and the students. Join us in celebrating Folklife Advocates Marilia Carrasquillo and Rey David Peñaflor Valdez as they receive the 2017 Florida Folk Heritage Award in a special ceremony. The event will include a performance and a short film honoring the award recipients’ contributions, followed by a reception. State Folklorist Amanda Hardeman and members of the Florida Folklife Council will present the award.

In this beginner-level class, students will learn the basic steps of quilting. The class will cover fabric choices, quilting supplies, rotary cutting and more. WKF02 Longarm Quilting: Beyond Basics

In this hands-on workshop, students will work on their appliqué‚ quilts and use different free hand patterns, stippling, echo quilting and fill-in patterns. Instructor: Robert Lennox Wednesday, 7-9 pm, Studio 7, 6 weeks This is a class for beginners to learn the beautiful craft of stained glass. We will introduce glass cutting, pattern making, copper foiling and soldering techniques. No prior stained glass experience is needed, and students of all levels are welcome. Instructor: Stefan Alexandres Sunday, 10 am‐2 pm, Studio 6 4 weeks, starts July 9 Every participant will explore the craft in-depth in four meetings for a total of 16 hours. Students will learn the bas‐relief technique with demonstrations and hands‐on assistance to practice the process. They will discover the ancient art of repoussé using handmade tools, hammers, punches and the pitch, and working the metal directly (without molds) to create relief sculptures in copper or silver. As repoussé is used for sculptural jewelry and metalsmithing, it has endless possibilities for wall relief murals, mirrors and more. Members $215 • Non-members $235

After working more than 25 years in social service, Sherry Goode-Carmell opened a home-based sewing and quilting studio and has been teaching all areas of sewing and quilting, as well as being a long arm quilter for more than six years. She was the chairperson for the Geneva Quilt Festival and was commissioned for the Seminole County Centennial Celebration.

Stefan Alexandres creates artwork using ancient techniques – no molds or stamps, just hand tools. From 1964 to 1972, he apprenticed in metal arts in the traditional ways as guided through the organized guilds of Greece. He draws inspiration for his metalwork from history, mythology, folk tales and real life.

Learn to fabricate irregular-shaped bezels to match odd-shaped stones for jewelry, as well as the process of permanently setting stone to bezel. This precision stone-setting technique is applicable for any rawshaped stones, crystals, or other materials like seashells, glass pieces, or liquid resin. Create three-dimensional sculptures using a variety of materials such as wood, metal, plastic, and glass. Students can explore including unconventional materials such as light bulbs, old tools, toys, photographs, and other found objects. Learn to assemble objects without welding or soldering by incorporating rivets, wires, screws, staples, nails, thread, glue, and plastic ties to assemble your threedimensional artwork for display on tables, floors or walls. Create raised designs by pushing and shaping malleable metal without using stamps or molds.
