Spend a beautiful nine spring days in northern New Mexico, one of America’s most unique and enchanting regions. Nowhere is there a more unique and diverse landscape in scenery, people, history and culture. Practice your photographic skills by exploring the rich tri-cultural heritage of this part of our country. Travel in a small group along historic back roads, visit small towns and to get to know the ancient and contemporary places of America’s first people. Together with Hispanic and European settlers, they have preserved New Mexico’s “Land of Enchantment”. The tour is custom designed for photographers of all levels, as well as individuals interested in art, history and cultural heritage. Tentative Tour Itinerary Saturday, March 16: Mid-day
assembly of group at Albuquerque Airport. Afternoon drive along the historic “Turquoise Trail” with visits to several former “ghost towns”. Checkin for four nights at the fabulous and historic La Fonda Hotel, the “Inn at the End of the Trail”. Our excursion headquarter is centrally located on the picturesque town plaza with its world class museums, galleries and restaurants. Welcome dinner at the hotel’s La Plazuela Restaurant.
Sunday, March 17: Morning walking
tour of one of America’s most beautiful cities – Santa Fe, followed by free time to explore the renowned Indian Market at the historic Palace of the Governors. Afternoon excursion to the mountains around Los Alamos to Bandelier National Monument with its dramatic canyons and pre-Columbian cliff dwellings – spectacular for hiking and photography!
Monday, March 18: All day excursion
to Chaco Canyon National Historic Park in remote northwestern New Mexico. A thriving and vastly networked community more than a thousand years ago, the UNESCO World Heritage Site features the impressive, multi-storied ruins of an ancient civilization, which is considered the ancestral homeland of many of New Mexico’s contemporary native people.
Tuesday, March 19: Today, we will
visit the mysterious geological landscape of Tent Rocks National Monument south of Santa Fe. Our hike will take us through a series of box canyons, eventually leading to a high plateau that will provide a spectacular 360 degree view of the surrounding natural landscape.
Wednesday, March 20: Following the traces of the legendary Santa Fe Trail, we will travel to Fort Union National Monument, the 19th century site of an extensive supply fort to protect the
wagon trails going West. Check-in at the Victorian Plaza Hotel, a more than one hundred year old restored hotel in the other city of Las Vegas, one of New Mexico’s still undiscovered historical treasures. After dinner, a special night photography session will be featured.
Thursday, March 21: Today, we will
travel across the spectacular Sangre de Christo Mountains, through the culturally interesting Mora Valley. Stops will include the picturesque mill on the historic Salman Ranch and the 18th century Spanish villages and mission churches on the famed “High Road to Taos”. Group dinner at the classic Rancho de Chimayo Restaurant, located in a century-old adobe home in the pilgrimage town of Chimayo. Check-in for two nights at the charming El Pueblo Lodge in the high elevation town of Taos, known for its vibrant artist community and beautiful surrounding scenery.

Your Tour Guide, Peter Schreyer The trip is led by Peter Schreyer, Crealdé’s Executive Director and internationally exhibited photographer, who is known for his award-winning documentary projects that celebrate the history and heritage of communities in a contemporary context. He has received numerous grants and acclamations for his work, including a Fellowship in Visual Arts from the State of Florida and most recently, a portfolio of his Central Florida archival photographs was purchased for the prestigious Alfond Collection of Contemporary Art at the Cornell Fine Arts Museum in Winter Park. Over the past three decades, the Swiss-born educator has crafted photographic tours to Europe and the American West that appeal to cultural travelers and photographers of all skill levels. He has travelled and photographed in New Mexico more extensively than anywhere else in the West.

Friday, March 22: Time to enjoy
the picturesque town of Taos with its museums, shops and restaurants. Photographic stops will include Ranchos de Taos, the Rio Grande Gorge and the 200 year old Hacienda de Los Martinez, a testimony to the life in New Mexico before the arrival of the Santa Fe Trail and its European influences.
the Rio Grande River, we will travel South through Taos Canyon to Santa Fee and Albuquerque. Our destination is Acoma Pueblo. “The Sky City” is one of the oldest continuously inhabited villages in North America; one of the tour’s photographic highlights! Our last night’s accommodations’ will be near Old Town in New Mexico’s capital city of Albuquerque. Farewell party and dinner highlighted with a spectacular cable car ride to the surrounding Sandia Mountains.
Sunday, March 24: Morning visit to Albuquerque’s Old Town area, followed by a transfer to the airport. End of tour. Please arrange for a return flight after 2 pm.

Reservations and Refunds Participants arrange for their own air transportation to and from Albuquerque, with the opportunity to extend their stay at the beginning or the end of the photographic tour. To reserve your space, a deposit of $1,000 is due upon registration or no later than November 15, 2018, with a full balance due by February 1, 2019. All tour prices are based on double occupancy with participants sharing a room with two beds. Single travelers should contact Peter Schreyer prior to registering to discuss rooming options and additional cost. A cancellation penalty of $500 will apply until November 15; $1,000 from November 16 until February 1. Refunds cannot be granted after February 1. Private travel insurance is recommended.
