IT’S AN EXCITING TIME TO BECOME A MEMBER! The new year has been very good to Crealdé, and we want to share just some of the many accomplishments and milestones achieved already over the last several months. THANK YOU to the Central Florida Foundation for their $10,500 grant award that funded our rebranding campaign that kicks off with our new logo from Lure Design. A new membership brochure, updated stationery and mobile-friendly website are also in the works, as part of this award.

THANK YOU to the 220 generous contributors to Crealdé’s portion of the 2016 United Arts Collaborative Campaign for the Arts. Our Board of Directors and administrative team worked hard over the last three months to meet and surpass our organization’s campaign goal of $40,000 by May 2. As a representation of Crealdé’s diverse support base, we received gifts ranging from $25 to $100 to $6,000. United Arts will match the funds raised by another 15 percent contribution. Thank you to all our students, members, instructors, staff and board members who made this possible! THANK YOU to the Florida Legislature, the State of Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, and the volunteer grant panelists for the General Program Support Grant of $63,312. We are appreciative of this recognition of the school’s work by panelists such as Beth Eby, who wrote, “I was impressed with Crealdé’s organizational management, your diverse offerings and community outreach.” And from panelist Flora Maria Garcia, President & CEO of United Arts of Central Florida, “The classes offered are of high quality with high level teaching artists. It’s a well-run organization that also includes high-quality exhibitions.”

THANK YOU to the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs for recognizing me for 22 years of continuous work in Hannibal Square as a Vincent Sansone, Featured Artist, Art in the Chambers, Art documentary photographer, educator and executive director of Crealdé, leading to Legends of Orange County, Orange County Administration the establishment of the Hannibal Square Heritage Center in 2007. There are communities like Hannibal Square all over Florida, where history is Barbara Tiffany, Featured Artist, The Encounter Series: disappearing and no one is recording it for future generations. At Crealdé, we believe Barbara Tiffany and Leslie W. Hardy, Orlando Museum of Art, April-May 2016. that this provides great opportunities for artists to engage with the community and create public art that celebrates the past and present contributions of community members, assuring that they have a place in the future. THANK YOU to the over 60 contributors to the campaigns that funded the $30,000 “Louvre of Loos” major restroom renovation that was just completed, leaving us with fully ADA accessible, air-conditioned facilities that look great too. The project started with an award from an Orange County Cultural Facilities Grant, followed by a successful power2give.org campaign through United Arts of Central Florida, and then the 2015 year-end Wish List Campaign capped by private donations. THANK YOU to United Arts of Central Florida for a Mini Grant to support the Hands-on Inspiration: Crealdé’s Visual Art Sampler, taught by Fabiola Hansen. Through the Easter Seals Day Break Program at the Miller Center in Winter Park, we are serving adults with a decrease in physical, mental or social abilities. Says Susan Ventura, President & CEO of Easter Seals Florida, “We see first-hand how the arts bring meaningful stimulation to our members and help alleviate some of the frustrations that come with memory disorders and the aging process. This is what arts and wellness programming is all about.” THANK YOU to our award-winning faculty members. We are proud of the accolades and distinctions given to the talented artists on our roster – you make us all look good! THANK YOU for our new bistro tables waiting for visitors around the main campus and the Adirondack chairs overlooking Lake Sterling. We hope that this will encourage you to visit and take a minute to enjoy the artistic and natural beauty of our campus. Wishing you a great summer! Peter Schreyer, Executive Director crealde.org

There are 50 personal photographs and recorded recollections of residents from West Winter Park included in the new book, representing the collaborative work of the Heritage Team: Fairolyn Livingston, Ronald Habin, Phyllis Moore, Bonnie Swain and Schreyer. The remarkable histories have been assembled into an attractive and accessible paperback, designed in Switzerland by top European graphic designer Peter Scholl (scholldesign.com), who Schreyer has known since childhood.

“The Florida Historical Society Press is very pleased to be publishing the new book on the Hannibal Square Heritage Collection,” says Ben Brotemarkle, Executive Director for the FHS.

The Hannibal Square Heritage Collection will be released May 19-21, during the statewide conference of the Florida Historical Society in Orlando. All of the attendees will tour the Heritage Center during the conference.

“Florida has always been an incredibly diverse state, and we strive to represent all of our various cultures and communities,” he says. “ This project provides us with a wonderful opportunity to help promote the history of an interesting African-American community through the memories and photographs of its residents. “

Schreyer adds that a further strength of the alliance with the FHS is that they publish affordable books, which are made available in libraries around the country. The Hannibal Square Heritage Collection will be available for sale at the Heritage Center and the Crealdé Art & Gift Shop.

In 1986, she took private lessons with Maury Hurt, who taught the classical approach to painting while introducing the effects of light. This dramatically changed her work and also her approach to teaching, which she has been doing since 1984.
