about the cover Throughout the 2015-16 academic year, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) will celebrate its 25th anniversary as a co-educational NCAA Division III athletics conference. The conference’s origins date to 1962 when the College Athletic Conference (CAC) was formed to provide an association through which member institutions could compete in intercollegiate sports activities among teams representative of their respective student bodies. A primary tenet of this conference was a shared commitment to the priority of the overall quality of academic standards and quality educational experiences. The next evolution of the conference took place prior to the 1991-92 academic year when the league moved to add women’s athletics as part of its sports sponsorship lineup and, as part of this rebirth, changed its name to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The idea behind the SCAC and the commitments made by those charter members in 1991 remain in place today. SCAC member institutions are committed to sponsoring a variety of varsity sports to maximize opportunities for student participation. SCAC schools also operate under the principle that participation in sports should be solely from student interest and enjoyment of athletic competition, and that no financial aid shall be given to any student which is conditional upon athletic ability or participation in intercollegiate sports. SCAC member institutions support students in their efforts to reach high levels of performance by providing them with adequate facilities, competent coaching and appropriate competitive opportunities with students from similar institutions. The SCAC is currently comprised of Austin College of Sherman, Texas; Centenary College of Shreveport, Louisiana; Colorado College of Colorado Springs, Colorado; University of Dallas of Irving, Texas; Schreiner University of Kerrville, Texas; Southwestern University of Georgetown, Texas; Texas Lutheran University of Seguin, Texas; and Trinity University of San Antonio, Texas. The SCAC office is located in Lawrenceville, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia.

history of the scac The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) was founded and began operation on September 1, 1962, as the College Athletic Conference (CAC). Centre College of Danville, Kentucky; Southwestern at Memphis (Tennessee) (now known as Rhodes College); The University of the South of Sewanee, Tennessee; and Washington and Lee University of Lexington, Virginia, were the four charter members of the conference. Later in 1962, Washington University of St. Louis, Missouri, became the fifth member and the CAC remained unchanged until 1972. Following membership changes throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the conference went through restructuring and renaming. With the addition of Millsaps College of Jackson, Mississippi, and Trinity University of San Antonio, Texas, in 1988 and Hendrix College of Conway, Arkanasas, and Oglethorpe University of Atlanta, Georgia, in 1991, membership reached a then all-time high of eight. That same year (1991), the conference renamed itself the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, hired its first full-time commissioner Stephen P. Argo - and a permanent conference office was established in Atlanta, Georgia. As part of restructuring, the league also adopted its current primary mark and adopted blue (pms 287) and gold (pms 131) as the official colors of the conference. Membership changes continued throughout the '90s. The SCAC added Southwestern University of Georgetown, Texas, in 1993 with participation beginning in the 1994-95 academic year. In 1997-98, the SCAC added both DePauw University of Greencastle, Indiana, and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology of Terre Haute, Ind., with participation beginning in 1998-99. As part of a year-long celebration in 2005-06, the league celebrated its 15th anniversary as the restructured SCAC. The league adopted a special anniversary logo (pictured left) and as part of the celebration, 15th anniversary teams were selected for all conference sponsored sports. After Rose-Hulman announced its intentions to leave the conference, Austin College of Sherman, Texas and Colorado College of Colorado Springs, Colorado, were confirmed as the 10th and 11th members of the league in 2006 with participation beginning in the 2006-07 academic year. Birmingham-Southern College of Birmingham, Alabama, a former member of the Division I Big South Conference, was approved as the 12th member of the SCAC and began play in 2007-08. Prior to the 2010-11 academic year, DePauw University announced that it would leave the conference. The University of Dallas was quickly tabbed to replace DePauw effective July 1, 2011 - maintaining the league's membership total at 12 institutions. In 2010-11, the league celebrated its 20th anniversary as the restructured SCAC. As part of the celebration, in addition to the use

of a special mark, the league office selected the Top 20 moments for each conference-sponsored sport. Those moments were announced throughout the 2010-11 academic year. After the conclusion of the June 7, 2011 SCAC Presidents’ meeting, the conference announced that seven of its twelve member institutions would be leaving to form a new conference effective at the conclusion of the 2011-12 academic year. The schools departing include founding CAC/SCAC members Centre College, Sewanee-The University of the South, and Rhodes College, in addition to Birmingham-Southern College, Hendrix College, Millsaps College, and Oglethorpe University. With membership down to five institutions – the conference’s lowest number since the 1979-80 academic year – the “new” SCAC wasted little time in adding to its membership rolls. In 2010-11, the league celebrated its 20th anniversary as the restructured SCAC. As part of the celebration, in addition to the use of a special mark (pictured right), the league office selected the Top 20 moments for each conference-sponsored sport. On September 28, 2011, Centenary College of Louisiana, a former American Southwest Conference institution, announced it would be joining the SCAC beginning in the 2012-2013 season. Two more ASC schools will join the SCAC for the 2013-14 season: Schreiner University announced their decision on January 23, 2012, and on February 16, 2012, Texas Lutheran University announced it too would join the SCAC. The addition of Texas Lutheran insured that the conference would retain its status as an active NCAA Division III conference as well as automatic bids in nine of its 14 AQ sports, including baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, softball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and volleyball. On the national athletics stage, the SCAC has had its fair share of success - both in terms of team championships (eight) and individual championships (33).

2010-2011
7 In the days when the league was known at the College Athletic Conference, Chris Fugman of Centre College gave the conference its first individual title with a victory in the 400 IM at the 1980 NCAA Division III Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships, and Chris Trapp of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won the men’s javelin at the NCAA Outdoor Track Field national championships three straight years (1984-1986). Nao Kinoshita of Rhodes College won the 1996 Division III women’s tennis singles title, capturing the first individual national title in the SCAC era. Kinoshita also won the 1997 singles title and combined with Taylor Tarver to capture the ‘97 doubles title. Ryan Loftus of Rose-Hulman captured the men’s pole vault title at the 1998 Indoor Track & Field championships. Heather Stone of University of the South-Sewanee claimed both the women’s indoor and outdoor 1,500 meter titles in 2000. And later that same season, the league claimed its first team national championships as Trinity University won both the men’s and women’s tennis titles. In the winter of 2003, Matt Smith of Rose-Hulman won the 100 yard breaststroke at the Division III men’s national swimming championships, and Trinity captured the women’s basketball championship - all in the same weekend. The following fall (in 2003), the Trinity men’s soccer team gave the league title #4, and the DePauw women’s basketball team became the fifth team from the conference to win a national championship when it captured the 2006-07 Division III title. Trinity’s Christyn Schumann won the women’s high jump at three consecutive NCAA Outdoor Track & Field national championships (2004-06), and Liz Bondi of DePauw captured the 16th individual national championship won by a CAC/SCAC student-athlete when she won the 2007 women’s tennis singles title. The 2008-09 season was a banner year as one team and three individual student-athletes won national titles for the SCAC. Todd Wildman of Trinity won the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field national championships and Chrys Jones of Centre College won the triple jump at the Outdoor Track & Field national championships. On the links, the Oglethorpe University men earned the league’s sixth team title with a first-place finish at the NCAA Golf Championships. The Petrels were led by Olafur Loftsson, who earned medalist honors and the league’s 19th individual title. In 2009-10, the SCAC had four different individuals win a total of five national titles. Todd Wildman of Trinity won his second-consecutive

indoor national title in the pentathlon. Centre’s Chrys Jones double-dipped and claimed national titles in the triple jump at the both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor national championships. At the 2010 NCAA Swimming & Diving championships, Trinity teammates Lindsay Martin and Hayley Emerick claimed individual titles in the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, respectively. In 2010-11, Chrys Jones became just the second SCAC student-athlete to win four career individual national titles as he repeated at the NCAA Indoor national championships in the triple jump. Centre’s Chris Morris earned the league its 26th individual national title when he claimed medalist honors at the 2011 NCAA Golf Championships. The 2011-12 academic year was one of the most successful in the league’s 50-year history. Tiarra Goode of Birmingham-Southern College won the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field national championships, Jordan DeGayner of Colorado College won the 200 free at the NCAA Swimming & Diving national championships and Ruth Hahn of Trinity University continued the Tigers’ diving dominanace with an individual title on the 3-meter board. Later in the spring, SCAC student-athletes earned two more individual national titles with Anthony Maccaglia of Oglethorpe University earning the league its third medalist in four years at the NCAA Men’s Golf championship and Birmingham’s Goode picked up her second individual national title with a win in the 100-meter hurdels at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field championships. In addition, Oglethorpe University earned the conference its seventh team national title with a victory at the 2012 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships. The “new” SCAC returned to national prominence in 2013-14 as Stephen Culberson of Trinity University won the 100 free at the 2014 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships and, in its first year in the conference, Schreiner University gave the conference its eighth team national championship with a victory at the 2014 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships - the league’s third national title in the sport in six years. A bell, donated by the Norfolk and Western Railway, was adopted as the SCAC’s “President’s Trophy” and serves as the symbol for the conference. The President’s Trophy is displayed for one year on the campus of the school with the combined men’s and women’s athletics program that accumulates the highest points total in the all-sports race established by the conference. The bell is awarded at the conclusion of the spring season.

KRISTINA corona Kristina Corona was named the Austin College head women’s soccer coach in February 2013, making her the second coach in program history. Corona most recently served as the head coach at the University of Dallas, where she was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2012. In 2014, Corona was honored by the NSCAA as a member of its “30 Under 30” program, which was created to support fledgling coaches and foster their growth at a crucial point in their vocation. In January of 2015, Corona also earned her NSCAA Premier Diploma. Corona is a 2009 graduate of the
University of Tulsa, where she was also a member of the women’s soccer team. In 2010 she took over a University of Dallas team that had gone 5-32-1 in the two seasons prior to her arrival, and in her three years at the helm she led the team to a record of 30-26-4, including 12 wins last season. This past season, she also coached three student-athletes to First Team All-SCAC honors. In addition to coaching at the University of Dallas, Corona has worked various soccer camps around the nation, including the Stanford University Soccer Camp in Palo Alto, California; Duke University Soccer Camp in Durham, North Carolina;

UCLA Soccer Camp in Westwood, California; and the University of Texas Soccer Camp in Austin. After graduating from Tulsa, Corona played for and also served as an assistant coach for the Fort Worth Panthers of the Women’s Premiere Soccer League in 2010 and 2011. Corona has been a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America since 2010. She also holds a USSF National ‘B’ Coaching License.

2015 season preview
Heading into the third year under head coach Kristina Corona, the Austin College women’s soccer team is looking to take the next step in competing in the upper half of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standings in 2015. The ‘Roos finished last season with an overall record of 11-10, the program’s best record since the 2010 campaign. Austin College also finished the year with a SCAC record of 6-6, earning a berth in the SCAC tournament and winning their first round game before falling to eventual conference champion Trinity in the semifinals. The ‘Roos return a strong amount of talent, coupled with some promising newcomers, and are hoping to keep the upward momentum going strong in the new season. After winning six games in her first season, Corona guided the team to a big bump in victories last season and has the pieces in place to continue that ascent. With seniors Cami Mavelian, Ashley Webb, and Hannah Poenisch back to lead the team the ‘Roos will be looking to build on the 2014 campaign as the team’s younger players using the experience gained last season to make the ‘Roos even more of a threat in the SCAC. Mavelian will be leading the charge in the midfield after scoring a pair of goals last season, and Webb will anchor a defensive unit that also features junior Erica Williams, who has started all but two games in her career at Austin College. Joining them on the back line will be sophomore goalkeeper Laura McGee, who heads into the 2015 season as the starting goalkeeper after making seven appearances last season as a freshman. McGee logged nearly 250 minutes in goal, making 17 saves with a .810 save percentage, and will be looked upon to shoulder an even bigger role this season. Leading the attack on offense will be sophomore forward Erin Eckart, a talented striker who earned All-SCAC honors and was
named Austin College’s female freshman athlete of the year during the 2014-2015 year. Eckart scored three goals and added two assists, putting her third on the team with eight total points a year ago. Ashley Rice will also be looked to for providing some offensive punch this season, as the junior comes off a three goal campaign a year ago. Another junior who Corona will be leaning on to create some offense is Myranda Baumgartner, who scored twice last season, and sophomore Kyli Scott is another weapon after tallying twice in 2014. Last season the team relied heavily on an outstanding defense, so this year an offensive spark from players like Scott and Baumgartner will go a long way toward building on the team’s success moving forward. Some of the other underclassmen who will be expected to play a larger role this season include sophomores Victoria Rutherford and Hassie Wortham, who each saw significant playing time in their first year with the ‘Roos in 2014. Along with the team’s returning talent, Corona welcomes in six newcomers this season, several of whom will be competing for serious playing time as fall camp comes to a close. Among those in the mix to see the field early are Jennifer Reyes, Riley Cowan, Grace Auth, Ali Boehmer, Katie Davis, and Anessa Tomblin. Austin College opens the season on September 1, when they host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 3:00 p.m. Courtesy of Austin College Sports Information

DAVID orr
David Orr begins his second season at the helm of the Ladies soccer program at Centenary College after spending the previous six seasons as the head coach of the Gents men’s soccer program. Orr took over the women’s program after Glenn Evans, a fixture in the history of Centenary soccer, retired following the 2012 season. In 2013, Orr guided Second Team All-Conference performers Riley Spudic and Madison Alexander. Alexander was honored for the third-straight season and led the team with three goals. One of the best defenders in the conference, Spudic scored her loan goal of the season against nationally-ranked Trinity, breaking their then nine-match scoreless streak. In six seasons with the Gents, Orr guided the squad to a 31-63-5 record, including a 13-win season in 2011 – the first season in Division III. During his time at Centenary, Orr has coached six all-conference performers and four conference players of the week. Orr donned the Gents soccer uniform during his four-year collegiate career, which culminated with his graduation in 1996. As a student-athlete, Orr helped lead Centenary to 27 wins in four years, and each year the Gents win total increased. Prior to returning to Centenary, Orr
Glenn evans Assistant Coach
served as the Director of Coaching for Texas Longhorns Soccer Club, Inc., based out of Richardson, Texas. He spent five years overseeing the management of coaches and assessing 15 staff coaches. He also developed and implemented a college recruiting program and coordinated college seminars for The Dallas Cup, one of the world’s most prestigious youth soccer tournaments. In 2004-05, Orr was the head coach at Mountain View College and he assisted with all aspects of recruiting, training, budgeting, and scheduling in the four years he spent working with former coach Jed Jones at Centenary. Under Orr and Jones’ guidance, the Gents went from a 4-12 record in 2000 to a 14-5 mark in 2002. Orr also has coaching experience in the Shreveport area, having formerly been the head coach at Captain Shreve High School from 1995 to 1998. He coached the Gators to two playoff appearances in three years. He was also the goalkeepers coach for the Dallas Texans and played professionally for the Shreveport-Bossier Lions of the USISL. Orr is married to the former Catherine Hudson and the couple has two children. They reside in Shreveport.

2015 season preview
The 2015 edition of the Centenary College women’s soccer team looks to build upon last season, the first for Centenary College alum David Orr at the helm of the Ladies program. In 2014, the Ladies claimed a pair of All-Conference performers in Riley Spudic and Madison Alexander. Alexander was honored for the third-straight season and led the team with three goals. One of the best defenders in the conference, Spudic scored her lone goal of the season against nationally-ranked Trinity, breaking their then nine-match scoreless streak. Alexander seven points, adding an assist to her three goals. The Ladies finished 1-17-1 last season; however, eight of the losses were by one goal and three were in overtime. Centenary picked up its lone win of the season in 2014 on September 14 against Hendrix, when Hannah Jo Wright found the back of the net in the 94th minute. The Ladies will lean on senior leadership as six members of the 2015 team are in their final season, while only three players are freshmen. The Maroon and White also add junior transfer Mallory Ford. Junior Marissa Hughes is the leading returner for the Ladies as she finished 2014 with two goals, one assist and five points. The game-winner against Hendrix was Wright’s lone goal for 2014. Riley Spudic and senior Hannah Bate also had a single tally for the Ladies last season. In goal, Centenary adds Madeline Herr, who is the daughter of Centenary’s tennis coach, Jeffrey Herr. The Ladies also return junior Erika Coker, who appeared in 17 games and made 12 starts last season. Coker went 1-14-1 in goal for the Maroon and White, finished second in the Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference with 95 saves. Coach Orr took over the women’s program after six seasons on the men’s side. With the Gents from 2008-2013, coach Orr guided the squad to a 31-63-5 record, including a 13-win season in 2011 – the first season in Division III. He will be assisted by the “Pioneer of the Centenary Soccer Program,” Centenary Hall-of-Famer Glenn Evans. Like Orr, Evans has been at the helm of both soccer programs, serving as head coach of the Ladies from 1992-1996 and 2010-2013 and compiled an 85-57-5 record. He has held the top post in the men’s program from 1983-1996, tallying a mark of 161-105-3. Evans is currently in his second stint as assistant women’s coach, serving in that capacity since 2014 and from 1997-2009. Centenary College women’s soccer begins the 2015 season September 1 against East Texas Baptist at 5 p.m. in Shreveport, Louisiana. After a trip to Louisiana College Sept. 5, the Ladies return home for four-of-five contests, starting with LeTourneau September 8 before beginning Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play Sept. 11 against Austin at Mayo Field. The Ladies take on nationally-ranked and 2014 NCAA Soccer Tournament and “Sweet 16” participant Trinity twice. Centenary battles Trinity September 25 at Trinity before taking them on at home Friday, October 26. Courtesy of Centenary Sports Information

ANGELINA pane
Angelina Pane completed her second season at the helm with the University of Dallas women’s soccer team, and guided the group to a 10-9-1 overall record. The team also posted its best SCAC record in the fourth year of affiliation by going 7-4-1. There was a three-game improvement in each tallied win column for the total amount of victories and those in conference. Pane managed a squad that notched the third seed in the conference tournament, and advanced to the semifinals for the second year in a row. The season was concluded in that match by a 1-0 setback versus Texas Lutheran University. The Lady Crusaders also set a new record this offseason with seven All-SCAC honors, which included Tri-All-SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year, Elena Naccari. The freshman goalkeeper notched five
of the team’s six shutouts. Nicole Johnson was tabbed on All-SCAC first team, while the remaining accolades went to a trio of players: Cascade Mayer, Mackenzie Vasile, and Alice Nelson on All-SCAC second team. Naccari and Kayla Nguyen received honorable mention. Pane was acknowedlged for her efforts; being named West Region National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Coach-of-the-Year. She was also among a trio of coaches in the SCAC to be tabbed Coach-of-the-Year for the league. The eighth head coach in program history, Pane previously spent two seasons as a graduate assistant for the Ottawa University (Kan.) women’s soccer team. From 2011-2012, she also aided the Kansas State Olympic Development Program (ODP) as a staff coach.

2015 season preview
The University of Dallas women’s soccer team enters the new campaign with hopes of fostering a passionate culture on a squad that bolsters several returners from last season’s 10-9-1 performance. It was the Lady Crusaders’ third year in the past four to post a double-digit mark in the victory column. More significantly, this Dallas group clinched its best record in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) through four years by going 7-4-1 and taking third place in the standings. A huge part of the Lady Crusaders leap in conference action was prevailing in six of the first eight affairs on the field. Both of UD’s setbacks during that stretch were to the top-seeded and defending SCAC Champions, Trinity University, and second-seeded Texas Lutheran University. Dallas would advance to the semifinals for consecutive years, both with now third-year head coach Angelina Pane at the helm. After blanking Schreiner University 2-0, the Navy and White would be nipped 1-0 the next day by Texas Lutheran to conclude things. “Last season was a great year for us, we really came together as a team early in the season and were able to improve each day,” Coach Pane reflected. “We saw a lot of success from throughout the conference play and in the conference tournament. So it gave us a really good kick push to build a culture and a foundation in our program. We are excited to build on it this year.” A program-most, seven All-SCAC recipients would be given honors last postseason. These include: junior Cascade Mayer (SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team), Coach Pane (SCAC Tri-Coachof-the-Year), sophomore Elena Naccari (SCAC Tri-Newcomer-ofthe-Year, departed senior Nicole Johnson (All-SCAC First Team), Mayer (All-SCAC Second Team), senior Alice Nelson (Second Team), sophomore Mackenzie Vasile (Second Team), Naccari (AllSCAC Honorable Mention), and departed senior Kayla Nguyen (Honorable Mention). Coach Pane added to her accolades by being named West
Region National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Coach-of-the-Year. Entering her third season at the helm for the Lady Crusaders, Pane carries a 17-23-1 record and has guided her squad to the conference semifinals both occasions in the tournament. Dallas has lost a key player in graduating senior, Nicole Johnson, who led the team with nine goals, 20 points, and 73 shot attempts. The Lady Crusaders return 15 players who gained plenty of experience from last season and expect to make an impact on the pitch this fall. Some notable players from last season that paced the offensive attack behind Johnson are: sophomores Cascade Mayer and Mackenzie Vasile, and senior Alice Nelson. The trio contributed three goals apiece, with Nelson notably counting each of hers for a game-winner. Other returners that found the back of the goal with a netter include: senior Mariah Fairbanks, and sophomores Sydney Stirling and Lauren Hood. 13 newcomers also joined the Navy and White this season, and will add depth to a roster that demonstrates a lot of passion and comradery. Dallas opens the campaign on September 1 at University of Texas at Tyler. UD plays 20 matches this season, including 11 at home in Irving, Texas. Last year, the Lady Crusaders went 6-3 at the friendly confines. The SCAC Tournament will be hosted by Dallas this season, so the women’s soccer team hopes to have some extra noise at Crusader Field this November. NICK morriSON Nick Morrison was named head coach for Schreiner Women’s Soccer on December 7, 2012. Coach Morrison returns to Schreiner after serving as Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach and Assistant Athletic Academic Coordinator at Prairie View A&M (NCAA Division I) for the past four seasons. Working for and with another former Schreiner soccer player, Abe Garcia, Morrison helped build the PVAMU soccer team from one of the worst in all of D-I sports to a team that won its division in 2012. Along the way, the program has annually set school records and have steadily progressed up to the top of the SWAC western division for the first time ever. Morrison also serves as the program’s Goalkeeping Coach. Academically, under Morrison’s guidance, the Panthers have had outstanding success in the classroom as well . Morrison was a standout performer both between the goal pipes and with the books at Schreiner. As a freshmen (2005), he set the school record for most shutouts in a season (7.0) and anchored the best defensive unit in SU history (0.95 GAA). He was named first team All-ASC after his first season. In 2006, Morrison had four more shutouts
as Schreiner men’s soccer completed it’s most successful two-year run in school history. That 2006 squad was the first and only SU team to host an American Southwest Conference championship tournament. He again was named First Team All-ASC. Unfortunately, a lingering illness cost him most of his junior year and misfortune continued his final season. He reinjured his knee (he had two knee surgeries in high school) very early in his senior year and saw his career come to a premature end. Still, in just over two seasons, his 12 shutouts rank #2 in school history. He was also a three-time Academic All-ASC selection and graduated in May of 2009 with a degree in Exercise Science. Coach Morrison also continued his academic pursuits while working at Prairie View A&M. He earned his Master’s of Education degree in Health & Human Performance in May of 2011. Known as a strong recruiter and student of the game , Morrison will draw on both his recruiting and coaching skills as he builds a new era of Schreiner Women’s Soccer.

2015 season preview
For the 2015 season, head coach Nick Morrison wants to see his team grow together. Together as in coming together but also growing together as in young players developing individually and as a team in conjunction with their teammates. While Morrison can rely on several upperclassmen this fall, notably seniors Kelcie Nesbitt (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown HS), Brianna Detwiler (Edinburg, TX/ Edinburg HS) and Bria Howard (Killeen, TX/Harker Heights HS), the majority of the team is made up of sophomores and freshmen. That’s where the growing together will be important for success this fall. Morrison can also count on sophomores Alex Gill (Tomball, TX/Memorial HS), Ashley Foster (Cypress, TX/Cy-Woods HS) and Ruth Blackburn (Wylie, TX/Wylie HS) for strong play. Gill and Foster patrol the midfield and help set up the defensive end of the pitch while Blackburn returns as the team’s leading scorer after netting five goals and assisting on two others
last fall. She was also named the SCAC Tri-Newcomer of the Year in 2014. The Mountaineers will also look to qualify for the SCAC postseason tournament for a second consecutive year and if succcessful, it will be a first for SU Women’s Soccer in the NCAA era. The season starts on Tuesday, September 1st with a home match against NAIA (scholarship) UH-Victoria at home at 3:00 pm. SU starts conference play at top-10 ranked Trinity on September 15th. She later went to play for the United States National Team, competing in 82 international matches and helping the team to a World Cup gold medal in 1991 and a bronze in 1995. Hamilton will inherit a squad that was under the lead of assistant Coach Jamie Meshew for much of the 2014 season. When Meshew took over, the Pirates had lost six of their first seven matches. After taking the reins, they began conference play and put up a 5-7-1 record through the rest of the season, including a first-round loss at the SCAC tournament. Returning for the Pirates this season on offense are the three leading scorers, Ana Gutierrez, Mackenzie Millican and Sarah Bevins, all of whom scored two goals last season. Bevins and Gutierrez each added one assist for a team-high five points. On defense, Southwestern lost starting goalkeeper, Katherine Rodgers. Returning, however is Kylie Hunt who played in six game last season and made one start. Hunt spent 172:55 minutes in the net, allowing five goals, but putting up 22 saves for
an .815 save percentage. She recorded one loss last season. The Pirates’ 2015 roster includes the experience of three seniors, six juniors and 11 sophomores, while five freshmen will begin their journey with the team. Southwestern will begin the season at home on September 1 against Hardin-Simmons University. They will travel the following weekend to Memphis, Tenn. to play against Fontbonne and Rhodes. Following that road trip, they will take on Texas Lutheran in their first conference match of the season, before hosting Howard Payne and Texas-Tyler. Hendrix College will be their final non-conference game of the season as they face the Warriors on September 25 at home. SCAC play gets into full swing October 2 as they host five games on Varsity Field and travel to Schreiner, Trinity and Dallas. The Pirates will look to earn a trip back to Irving for the SCAC Championship Tournament beginning November 6. They have made it into the tournament for the last three years.

LARRY schaffer
The 2015 campaign will be Larry Schaffer’s fourth season at the helm of the Texas Lutheran Women’s Soccer program. Under Schaffer’s guidance, the Bulldogs have produced back-to-back, double-digit season win totals for the first time since the 2006 and 2007 campaigns. Last year, the 2014 season, the Bulldogs produced a 10-9-1 overall record with a
9-4 mark in the always tough Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs advanced to the SCAC Championship game in 2014 and fell to No. 2-ranked Trinity University 3-0. The championship game appearance was the second conference championship game played in TLU Women’s Soccer history. Zoe Gulick led a group of five Texas Lutheran women’s soccer players to take home 2014 SCAC postseason hardware. Gulick was one of three players to grab the 2014 SCAC Tri-Newcomer of the Year. She also joined Sioned Kirkpatrick, Kelly Lochte, and Erin Rose on the All-SCAC First Team. Tara Armstrong earned a spot on the Second Team. In 2013, the Bulldogs finished 10-8-2 in Schaffer’s season. TLU’s 6-5-1 record in its first season in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference placed it third in the league. The Bulldogs advanced to the semifinals of the SCAC Championship. In that 2013 season, the Bulldogs had six players earn All-SCAC recognition, led by Sioned Kirkpatrick and Jennifer Kopetic on the First Team and Tara Armstrong and Krystel Wolfe on the Second Team. In his first three years at TLU, Schaffer has coached a conference Offensive Freshman of the Year, a conference
Tri-Newcomer of the Year, six All-Conference First Team members, five Second Team members and three players who earned Honorable Mention. In his first season as Texas Lutheran’s head coach, Schaffer led the Bulldogs to a 7-9-1 overall mark. The season was highlighted by an ASC Co-Offensive Freshman of the Year award for Sioned Kirkpatrick. Schaffer was named the new coach for TLU Women’s Soccer on Dec. 20, 2011. Schaffer won a pair of Class 5A State Championships in boys’ soccer with San Antonio Churchill. Schaffer and the Chargers won state titles in 1998 and in 2001. Overall, Schaffer has coached in four Texas high school state tournaments and eight Texas high school regional tournaments. He has won 12 district championships and more than 300 high school matches. Schaffer is a two-time finalist for NSCAA National High School Coach of the Year and a two-time winner of an NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year award. Schaffer twice has been named NSCAA Texas High School Coach of the Year and San Antonio Express-News Coach of the Year. He is a four-time winner of the Texas High School Coaches Association Region 4 Coach of the Year.

2015 season preview
The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs start the 2015 women’s soccer season with 18 returning letter-winners and 10 newcomers for a squad coming off a 10-9-1 overall and 8-4 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference marks. The Bulldogs advanced to the SCAC Championship tournament final and lost to second-ranked Trinity 3-0 “I’m very pleased with the 10 recruits coming in for 2015,” said Larry Schaffer, who will begin his fourth season as the head coach of the Bulldogs. “With the 18 returners we have coming back, and the addition of the 10 recruits to mix in with them, I like what the potential could be for this team. “This group of recruits is very versatile and can play multiple positions, which will allow the team to take on many different looks. This group also has high moral and academic standards, which will fit in well with TLU’s campus and classroom atmosphere.” The Bulldogs return three-year leading scorer Sioned Kirkpatrick. The senior put in seven goals and added six assists in 2014. She registered 59 shots and 27 shots on goal. She netted three game-winners. Kirkpatrick was a First Team All-SCAC selection a year ago and in 2013. Kirkpatrick has scored 35 career goals and distributed 14 assists in her Bulldog career. Kirkpatrick was one of four Bulldogs to achieve All-SCAC First
Team honors in 2014. Kirkpatrick, sophomore Zoe Gulick, senior Kelly Lochte, and junior Erin Rose all return for 2015. A year after earning All-SCAC Honorable Mention, Lochte landed First Team honors in 2014 after a stellar campaign. The midfielder scored twice and added an assist on the year. Both goals came during conference play. Rose also earned Honorable Mention in 2013 before being named to the All-SCAC First Team in 2014. The sophomore goalkeeper notched six shutouts on the season, the best mark in the conference. Her 1.19 goals-against average was second lowest in the league. Junior defender Tara Armstrong was also part of that stout Texas Lutheran defense, playing a sweeper role and cleaning up a lot of the potential threats from attacking teams. She earned Second-Team honors for the second straight season. The sophomore scored a goal and added two assists for the year. Schaffer has guided TLU to records of 7-9-1 (2012), 10-8-2 (2013), 10-9-1 (2014) in his three previous years. Schaffer has an overall record of 27-26-4 at TLU. 2015 season preview
Lance Key is in his 12th season as head coach of the Trinity Tigers women’s soccer team. Since taking the helm in 2004, Coach Key stands at No. 3 in winning percentage (.880) of all coaches in the NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, and second among active DIII coaches. During the 2015 campaign, Coach Key will have five returning starters among 24 returnees from the 2014 season.Trinity finished last season with a 22-1-1 record, and a No. 6 national ranking. The Tigers only loss of the year came in the NCAA Division III Round of 16, as Trinity was edged 1-0 in a double-overtime battle with Thomas More (KY) College at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA Playoffs for the 10th time under Coach Key’s leadership. Trinity opened with a 3-0 shutout of the University of Texas-Tyler at the Paul McGinlay Soccer Field, and then blanked Redlands (CA) University 2-0 in a second-round matchup. It marked the program’s 75th consecutive home game without a loss, breaking the Division III record. Prior to the NCAA Tournament, Trinity secured its sixth consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship. Seven seniors graduated, of whom six were starters. The list included three All-Americans, Emily Jorgens, Kelsey Falcone, and Kirby Peddicord. Jorgens was named the Capital One Academic All-American of the Year for the second straight time, as well as being elected the SCAC Woman of the Year. The duo of Jorgens and Falcone each received a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. The seven seniors who graduated will definitely be missed. But Coach Key said that the returning players and newcomers will fill those slots, because of the continuity of the Trinity soccer program. “Every year, you are going to have a cycle of players out, and of players in,” Coach Key said. “That’s the nature of this environment. We want to be a team and program of continuity. We are going to be disciplined on both sides of the ball. The team will be dynamic and confident in the attack, and stingy in defense. We define ourselves as being hard-working and resilient.” Three returning senior captains will provide leadership for the 2015 edition of the Trinity Tigers: midfielders Maggie Olvera, Kimberly Polasek, and Emily Donnan. Olvera was selected for the All-SCAC Second Team, while scoring 10 goals (one game-winner) and shelling out 11 assists for 31 points. Polasek picked up All-SCAC First Team accolades, scoring three goals and producing seven assists for 13 points. She also was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-Region Team. All-SCAC Honorable Mention honors went to Donnan, with three goals and one assist for seven points. A returning midfielder/forward who started last season is sophomore Colleen Markey, who attained All-SCAC Honorable Mention recognition. Markey fired in seven goals and three assists, for 17 points during her first season of competition. Sophomore Hannah Booher is back as a starting defender. From her position in the back line, Booher contributed two goals and one assist for five points. Junior Yasmeen Farra was tabbed for the All-SCAC Honorable Mention Team. Farra had four goals and three assists for 11 points. Sophomore midfielder/forward Julia Camp accounted for six goals (one game-winner) and two assists for 14 points. Abby Tisdale, a sophomore midfielder, had five goals and two assists for 12 points. Trinity produced 112 goals during the season, and was ranked third nationally
in goals per game (4.67 goals per game). The Tigers were the top team in total points (330.0), total assists (106.0), and assists per game (4.42). “The way we play promotes an attacking mentality and style,” Coach Key said. “We are going to promote the creation of chances. Scoring goals is much like a lot of other execution points, and we are certainly going to have the opportunities to score a large number of goals.” Trinity’s defense can be described as taut. In fact, the Tigers were ranked fourth nationally in the goals-against category (.286), allowing only seven goals in 24 games. The Tigers also registered 17 clean-sheet matchups during the season. Starting goalkeeper Devan Osegueda graduated, as did Lauren Goldberg. Junior keepers Janie Thompson and Dana McLaughlin, and sophomore Kalli Douma, conceded only one goal in their combined 14 matches. The returning juniors include forward/midfielders Brigitte Taylor and Hannah Hommel, defender/midfielder Jordan Leeper, midfielder Allison Carter, and defender Nicole Gardini. Back for their sophomore season are defenders Jordan Bethea, Lauren West, Melissa Chura, Julia Kelly and Alex Ortiz, along with forwards Meredith Licata and Tierney Thomison. A newcomer to the Trinity program is assistant Coach Chelsea Frye, who comes to campus after working in a similar position for three seasons at Wartburg (IA) College. Coach Frye has been impressed with the history and determination of the women’s soccer program. “What attracted me most to Trinity,” Coach Frye said, “is the high level of overall excellence. The soccer program has an amazing culture, coupled with its winning tradition and strong academics. Trinity women’s soccer is respected nationally. From what I have gathered in a short time here, the players train and compete at a very high level to earn that respect.” Returning on a part-time basis is Owen Collie, who spent four years on the Trinity staff before departing in the summer of 2015. He was honored as the NSCAA West Region Assistant Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2014. Coach Collie is the girls head of development and college program director of the San Antonio Classics Elite Soccer Academy. Juan Lamadrid returns as the goalkeepers coach of both the Tiger women’s and men’s teams. Now in his sixth season at Trinity, Coach Lamadrid also coaches the goalkeepers of the San Antonio Scorpions of the North American Soccer League. Paul Scheuer returns as lead physical conditioning coach, while Dr. Rick Theis will once again handle mental conditioning. The Tigers open their 11-game regular-season home schedule September 1 against San Antonio’s Our Lady of the Lake University. The Tigers will have a rematch, this time at home, against Texas-Tyler on September 11. The SCAC Championship is slated for November 6-8 at Irving, Texas. The NCAA Playoffs will be held November 13-22 at sites to be determined, with the semifinals and final taking place December 4-5 at Kansas City, Kansas. Courtesy of Trinity Sports Information
