God Makes the World In the beginning, before anything was made, there was God. He created everything: Light and darkness, the skies and the oceans, all the animals and everything on earth. Then He created Adam and Eve. God looked at all He had created and was pleased with everything. Genesis 1:1-31
Noah Builds the Ark God saw that people in the world had become very evil. So He decided to start over again with a man called Noah. God told Noah to build an ark and bring all the different animals into the ship. It rained for many days, until the earth was completely covered by water. Then Noah sent out a dove. When the dove returned, with an olive leaf in its beak, Noah knew it was time to leave the ark. Genesis 8:1-16
The Tower of Babel The people in the city of Babel were building a tower. They wanted it to reach heaven because they thought they could be as great as God. Then God made them speak different languages. No one understood each other anymore. No wonder they never finished the tower. Genesis 11:1-9
A Promise for Abraham God had promised Abraham and Sarah a son, but for many years nothing happened. God is good. He kept His promise until the time was just right. Finally Sarah gave birth to their son even though they were both very old. Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter”. So they named him Isaac which means ‘he laughs’. Genesis 21:1-7
Joseph the Dreamer Joseph was the youngest of twelve brothers. One day his father Jacob gave him a beautiful coat because Jacob considered Joseph his favorite son. This made Joseph’s brothers mad. Joseph dreamed that he would one day be greater than all his brothers and lead them. He often told them about his strange dreams. This made the brothers even more angry. One day, when some merchants came by, they sold Joseph to the traders. Genesis 37:3-28
Joseph Becomes a Leader In Egypt Joseph was sold as a slave. But God looked after him and blessed him with the ability to understand and interprete dreams. He was even able to understand Pharaoh’s dreams.
Pharaoh really liked Joseph and made him governor of Egypt. Joseph knew from Pharaoh’s dream that a famine was coming. This would make the people starve. So he stored up food in great silos. Later when the famine came, Joseph brought his father and all his brothers to live in Egypt so they wouldn’t starve to death. Genesis 41:1-41
