CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE

I

am delighted that we are finally able to welcome our supporters back into the Parc for this final game of the season against Edinburgh! I have always remained hopeful that the gates would be open before the curtain was brought down on this most challenging of seasons and as a club we have been pushing hard on this. So to be able to get fans in, albeit at a restricted capacity, is a huge fillip for everyone. We have missed the noise from the stands and the North Terrace, we have missed Sosban Fach reverberating around the place - it is fantastic to have you back. I must take this opportunity to applaud the work of the staff here at the Scarlets for going above and beyond to make sure this game is going ahead with supporters. We didn’t have any advanced notice from the Welsh Government that restrictions would be relaxed; we heard the same time as everyone else, so it’s been all hands on deck to make sure the stadium is safe for you all to return. Hosting this game is coming at a real financial cost, but we wanted to do this after all the support we have received and I know everyone at the Scarlets is excited for this game.

On another note, congratulations to those who have earned international call-ups in recent weeks, Foxy, Ryan, Kieran, Leigh and Tom with Wales and, of course, Javan with Scotland and a huge good luck to our four Lions who are linking up with Warren Gatland’s squad in Jersey this week. As this is our final game of a season that nobody will forget, it would be remiss of me not to thank everyone for their support - fans, sponsors, partners, our staff, players, our board and everyone’s families who have done so much to get us through this period. Covid has been incredibly challenging on so many levels, but we have got through it so far as a business and we will go into next season stronger. We understand we have work to do on and off the field to get where our expectations are as a club and we can do that. So, after 15 months of empty stands, I can’t wait to see at least some of our supporters here this afternoon. Hopefully, the sun will shine and we will enjoy a Sunday at the Parc that offers us a glimpse of life and fortune returning. Diolch Simon

KIERAN HARDY

On Cloud Nine Kieran Hardy smiles when he’s asked how he would have responded had he been told at the start of the season that he was going to be on the radar of the British & Irish Lions. “I probably would have laughed at you,” says the Scarlets No. 9. “I was definitely nowhere near that 12 months ago. “I was over the moon just to be in contention for the Lions squad and to get an email, but I didn’t quite make it. Fair play to the boys who did and all the best to them.” You have to rewind to November to track the trajectory of Hardy’s rugby journey. Called up for the autumn campaign, he made his debut in the Nations Cup clash with Georgia and hasn’t looked back since. It hasn’t been all a bed of roses for Hardy with a hamstring injury during the Triple Crown-winning victory over England ended his blossoming Six Nations campaign. But he has returned impressively, producing a manof-the-match display in the Rainbow Cup win over the Ospreys at Parc y Scarlets in May. “It has definitely been a breakthrough season,” he reflects. “It was bittersweet the way the Six Nations ended but it was a great experience and I enjoyed it “Picking up the hamstring injury in the England game was tough, that’s the highs and lows of rugby. I had just played well against England and won a Triple Crown but in the back of my mind I did not know how bad the injury was.

“I tried to enjoy the moment but you are never really fully there because you think how bad the injury could be. Between the Saturday and Monday waiting for the scan I was anxious waiting to see what would happen. It was a pretty horrible moment really; in my mind I didn’t think it was that bad, but when I sat down with the physio he said that while it was not bad the turnaround we had it was not possible to play. “That was hard to take, but as soon as I left the camp I was focused on doing my own thing and getting back as soon as possible for Scarlets.” Hardy is the latest in a long line of Scarlets nines who have gone on to win international honours. West Wales may be renowned for its fabled fly-half factory, but the scrum-half production line has been in fine working order of late with the likes of Tavis Knoyle, Rhodri Williams, Aled Davies and Gareth Davies having all gone on to win their Wales spurs. When you consider that Dane Blacker has also put his hand up this season and Harri Williams and Luke Davies are bright young talents coming through, Scarlets are in an envious position at half-back. “That competition we have at the Scarlets is healthy and keeps the boys on their toes,” adds Hardy. “If you are not performing well one week there are two other boys ready to step in and do the job and we thrive on that. Dane has been outstanding this season when me and Gareth have been away and has taken every opportunity.”

Of course, Hardy will come under the tutelage of another international scrum-half next season, fellow man of the Gwendraeth, Scarlets great Dwayne Peel, who is taking the reins as the new head coach. “The boys are excited,” adds Hardy. “Dwayne is a local boy and played a lot for Scarlets and has done a good job at Ulster. We know we have not been great this year, there have been a couple of games we have played well and probably let ourselves down on a couple of occasions.

another set of eyes. There will be things he would have seen when he was playing and things we can implement in our games and it will be beneficial to all the nines. He will probably look after us a little bit more and be harsher if we are not performing. It will be great to learn off Dwayne.”

“On Sunday we have an opportunity to finish the season on a high; we have a few weeks away and then we come back together and can look to have a better start to next season and hopefully kick on.

“I will try and play well for Scarlets in this last game and build nicely into the Welsh squad and try and get some performances there as well,” he adds.

“Dwayne being here also means having another scrumhalf looking at your game and

Having been part of the Lions’ thinking, Hardy will be looking to further his reputation as part of Wales’ 34-man squad for the summer Tests against Argentina and Canada.

“Everyone is going to be trying to play as well as they can and whoever is in contention will be called up.

“there is a lot of rugby and training they do before they have to get on the plane so everyone who is in contention probably needs to stay on top of their game and make sure they are ready for anything,” While Hardy has plenty to look forward to on the horizon, his immediate focus is this final match of the season with the Scarlets against Edinburgh, with the unexpected bonus of some fans being allowed in for the first time in 15 months. “It is going to be brilliant, it has been a long time since they have been in and it will just be nice to have friends, families and supporters back in the stadium, it will be pretty special,” he says. “It means so much to have them back, we know it’s the last game of the season, but the boys will be looking to put on a show.”

“That was hard to take, but as soon as I left the camp I was focused on doing my own thing and getting back as soon as possible for Scarlets.”

SUMMER INTERNATIONALS 2020

Uncapped Tom and Javan get international calls T

om Rogers and Javan Sebastian are in line to make their senior international debuts this summer after being called up by Wales and Scotland. Uncapped flyer Tom is one of five Scarlets named in Wayne Pivac’s 34-man squad for the matches against Argentina and Canada in July. Rogers has enjoyed a breakthrough season, scoring a superb solo try in the comeback win over Connacht that secured Champions Cup qualification for next season. The 22-year-old is joined by Leigh Halfpenny, Kieran Hardy, Ryan Elias and Jonathan Davies, who will captain the side. Javan, meanwhile, has spoken of his surprise at being named in Scotland’s national squad for an A match against England A at Leicester’s Mattioli Woods Welford Road on Saturday, June 27 and Tests against Romania and Georgia. The 26-year-old tight-head prop qualifies for Scotland through his father who was born in Edinburgh. He had a season with Glasgow Warriors in 2016, but came through the Scarlets pathway, playing for the Academy, Wales U18s and Carmarthen Quins in the Welsh Premiership before earning his place in the Scarlets squad. “I am over the moon, wasn’t expecting it all and really chuffed to have the call, it’s a proud moment for the family,” he said. “My grandfather came over from Belize and my dad was born and raised in Edinburgh. I had a year with Glasgow Warriors in 2016, but never thought that I’d have the chance to play for Scotland. It is a massive honour and achievement for me and as my dad it is Scottish it is close to my heart. ‘This season, coming back after lockdown, I was just looking to work hard and try to get a run of games here. I have done a lot of work with Ben Franks and Glax (Glenn Delaney), they have helped me and pushed me as much as I can be

pushed. It has been a case of small steps and the reward has come. “I have been in contact with the Scottish management and they are looking to push me on as a player and help improve me. I am really looking forward to linking up with the squad.”

Second-half comeback not enough as Blues hold on for win

S

carlets produced a stirring secondhalf comeback, but came up just short, losing 29-28, in a thrilling Rainbow Cup clash against Cardiff Blues at Parc y Scarlets. The home side trailed 26-9 midway through the second half, but two tries from replacement scrum-half Dane Blacker and another by Angus O’Brien put them within sight of a stunning victory.

on the stroke of half-time reduced the deficit to 19-9, but the Scarlets still had plenty of work to do. That mountain got bigger when Turnbull crashed over for the Blues’ bonus-point try and it looked like the points were in the bag for the visitors. But back came the Scarlets with an outstanding comeback sparked by Blacker.

However, a late penalty from man of the match Jarrod Evans stole the spoils for the visitors, who claimed a third victory over their West Wales rivals this season.

The former Blues scrum-half followed up Johnny McNicholl’s weaving break to cross on 64 minutes, then popped up again on Tom Rogers’s shoulder for his second.

Scarlets were on the scoreboard early thanks to the boot of full-back Halfpenny, but they were then forced on the defensive for long periods as the visitors piled on the pressure.

With Angus O’Brien and Dan Jones kicking intelligently, momentum continued to swing the Scarlets’ way and with six minutes remaining they snatched the lead thanks to a lovely dink through from Dan Jones, which O’Brien plucked out of the air to cross at the posts. O’Brien’s conversion put the Scarlets ahead, but in a dramatic finale, the Blues were awarded a penalty and Evans held his nerve.

With Evans pulling the strings, the fly-half crossed for the first try on six minutes and it needed a superb cover tackle from Tom Rogers to deny Josh Turnbull in the corner. The Blues did get their third try when lock Cory Hill charged over on 23 minutes, but a second Halfpenny penalty kept the Scarlets in contention after skipper Ryan Elias had been held up over the line. However, no sooner had the Scarlets got on the board than the Blues were celebrating their third try by full-back Hallam Amos. A third Halfpenny penalty

There was still time for a final twist. Referee Sean Gallacher awarded the Scarlets a penalty for a high tackle with two minutes remaining, but changed his mind and it was the Blues who saw out the game to claim the narrowest of victories.

April 29th, 2007 Scarlets put aside the disappointment of their European semi-final loss to Leicester to hand out a thumping 42-17 hammering of Edinburgh at Stradey Park. Wales skipper Stephen Jones started the ball rolling with this opening try as part of a personal 15-point haul.

EDINBURGH RUGBY

TODAY’S OPPOSITION I

t was a case of deja vu for Richard Cockerill after watching Ulster’s Ian Madigan deny his side victory with a last-gasp penalty at Murrayfield last weekend.

The Irish fly-half broke Edinburgh hearts in last year’s PRO14 play-off semi-final and did the same in the side’s final match at the home of Scottish rugby before their short hop to their new 7,800-capacity ‘mini Murrayfield’ stadium on the same grounds. “I’m sick to death of Madigan kicking the winning goal, but that’s life!” said Cockerill after the 34-31 loss. “We conceded soft points, it was hard defending as 13 men, but fair play to the players, we stuck in there and gave ourselves an opportunity to win the game, we didn’t take it and they came back. “We’ve been working hard on our attack and it’s been good - we’ve got so many guys missing, but credit to the guys that played, the young guys that came in. “There’s a lot for us to build on. It stings now, it hurts now because we probably deserved more from that, but we’ll have a good review on Tuesday when the guys come in before we go to Scarlets for our final game.”

Ultimately, it has been a disappointing campaign in the Scottish capital for Cockerill’s men, who finished the shortened PRO14 season in sixth spot in Conference B. They were put to the sword by Racing 92 in Paris in the round of 16 of the Champions Cup and are set to finish in the bottom half of the Rainbow Cup standings. Like the Scarlets, they will be without their Lions contingent for today’s final game with prop Rory Sutherland, wing Duhan van der Merwe and flanker Hamish Watson having been selected in Warren Gatland’s tour party. It’s one win apiece for the sides so far this season Edinburgh edging a 6-3 win in Llanelli in November, while Scarlets hung on for a gripping 27-25 victory at Murrayfield in February.

WE SAY A FOND FAREWELL

Diolch a phob lwc! N

ormally, there would be a presentation in front of the fans on the final home match of the campaign, but unfortunately due to ongoing Covid restrictions that hasn’t been able to take place. Instead, the players had their own farewell ceremony at Parc y Scarlets following Saturday’s Guinness PRO14 Rainbow Cup match against Cardiff Blues. Since then Jake Ball has said his farewells and flown back to Australia to be with his family where he has met his six-month old son Max for the first time. Others are heading on to chapters new following this afternoon’s season finale. Scarlets executive chairman Simon Muderack said: “Unfortunately, every year we have to say goodbye to players who have contributed so much to the Scarlets during their time here and I know our supporters would love to be here at Parc y Scarlets to say their own farewells and thanks in person. “We have Werner, who is retiring after a wonderful career; Jake, Ed and Paul are heading back to Australia, while others are taking up new opportunities and we wish them all well and thank them for what they have done as Scarlets. “Diolch yn fawr i chi gyd.” Jake Ball After 133 appearances in the second row for the Scarlets over nine seasons, Jake has headed home to be with his family in Australia. Werner Kruger The Springbok tight-head prop is hanging up his boots after racking up more than a century of appearances for the Scarlets to add to the same milestone he achieved in Super Rugby and in the Currie Cup. Shape into burgers and chill for 15 minutes. 4. These can be cooked on the solid plate of a BBQ, oven or grill – approximately 15-20 minutes depending on thickness. Top with cheese during last minute of cooking. Ensure thoroughly cooked in the centre.

Llanelli 43 Edinburgh Reivers 28 (Saturday, April, 21, 2001; Stradey Park)

FROM THE VAULT W

hat should have been an easy league fixture turned out to be far from that. The Scarlets need to win everything to keep their European dream alive for next season. At 23-7 ahead early in the second half all seemed plain sailing for the home side. But the slick Scots decided to read from another script and with just a quarter of an hour to go they had made it 28-28. In an error-strewn game Llanelli struck within the first minute with a try from prop Martyn Madden. And with Stephen Jones kicking his goals, another try midway through the half from lock Vernon Cooper made it 17-0 and all seemed according to the home side’s plan. But Edinburgh served notice that they were not prepared to roll over as impressive full-back Chris Paterson got the first of his two tries. But when Jones landed two more penalty goals it seemed to be plain sailing once again for Llanelli. But there was a shock in store for the Welshmen. Flanker Martin Leslie and wing Conan Sharman scored fine tries, both of which the reliable Duncan Hodge converted. Llanelli found themselves involved in a real fight. They steadied a little with a try from Neil Boobyer before Paterson struck again. Hodge’s fourth successful kick tied the match going into a frantic final quarter of an hour. But Llanelli came again to seal a hard-earned victory with a try by centre Dafydd James, one for flanker David Hodges and a further penalty goal and conversion by Jones.

But no-one could doubt it had been a lot closer than the final score suggested. Llanelli: Cardey; G Evans, James, L Davies, M Jones; S Jones, G Easterby; Booth, McBryde, Madden, Cooper, C Gillies, Hodges, I Boobyer, Quinnell. Replacements: N Boobyer, Lawson, Peel, J Davies, M Thomas, Wyatt, G Williams. Edinburgh Reivers: Tries: Paterson (2), Sharman, Leslie. Cons: Hodge (4). Edinburgh: Paterson; Murray, Di Rollo, Officer, Sharman; Hodge, Burns; Jacobsen, Scott, Smith, Metcalfe, Fullarton, Mackinnon, Leslie, S Taylor. Replacements: Joiner, Shiel, Fairley, Robertson, Douglas, A Dall, G Dall. Referee: Tony Rowlands (Treorchy).

THOUGHTS FROM THE HALFWAY T

oday’s last game of the season is also the first game of the season for fans to be back at Parc y Scarlets.

It is also the latest date for the Scarlets to finish their campaign. In the professional era, seasons often now end in May, but in the amateur days the season usually finished at the end of April. In the season that followed the First World War, the Scarlets did play a New Zealand Army team on May 10, 1919, but they hadn’t started playing again until January. In that game, 10,000 supporters turned up eager to see some rugby after the sport was suspended during the four years of war. There won’t be that many supporters at the Parc today against Edinburgh - it is the first game of the season that supporters will be allowed in owing to the easing of the Covid regulations. Fans have been starved of live rugby just as they were after the Great War. Looking back through the history books, the final game often falls into two main categories. There’s the jolly one which was very fashionable in the first half of the 20th century, a type of missionary game or an excuse to have a good end-of-season celebration. Tenby was a frequent opponent and even a match against a hastilypulled together team against a team called West of Llanelli was held In the Pembrokeshire seaside resort. Tenby as the last game remained a tradition until 1959. Rest assured it wasn’t the quiet monastic life of Caldey Island which attracted the players resting after a hard season. Tenby had pubs in abundance.

Then there’s the very important last game when titles and cups are to be won. In 1928, during a golden era, the Scarlets had to beat Newport at Stradey to win the unofficial Welsh Championship. In front of nearly 10,000 fans they won convincingly 12-5. It was that bizarre unofficial championship which was again up for grabs in one of the famous last games. In 1968, with the Scarlets on the cusp of another golden era with Delme, Benny and other stars, they had to travel to the dreaded Gnoll to face Neath who had the most feared pack in Wales. As forecast, it was a tough game. At one stage the Scarlets were reduced to 13 players losing Alan John with a broken collarbone and Marlston Morgan with a broken nose. But Morgan was determined to return for what was to be his last game and scored the only try as the Scarlets won convincingly 9-0. That victory set up a string of important last games in the next few years as the Scarlets were frequent winners of the Welsh Cup in the 1970s and that was invariably the last game of the season. In the professional era, the last games were nearly always important ones with the Scarlets needing to qualify for Europe or indeed winning cup finals. No missionary games anymore. There is nothing up for grabs in today’s match, but the Scarlets will go all out to give an entertaining performance in front of the first crowd they will have witnessed for 15 months. It’s a cause for celebration and some of that old Tenby spirit should be there.

COMMUNITY CAMPS

SCARLETS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION Our community camps are back with kids enjoying rugby amid the sunshine and showers at Aberystwyth RFC and Ysgol Maes y Gwendraeth during the half-term break. Due to ongoing Covid restrictions, numbers were restricted, but the kids had a great time under the guidance of our community coaches. Keep an eye on our social media channels for updates of the next camps coming your way!

FROM THE PRESS ROOM

Media update ahead of Edinburgh game

Ahead of the Scarlets’ final game of the season against Edinburgh on Sunday, interim head coach Dai Flanagan sat down to speak to the media. Here’s what he had to say. What’s it like getting ready to play in front of fans again? DF: “It is massive. It is massive for the players, staff and of course, for the supporters, who I am sure can’t wait to get back. It is going to be a great day down here and so nice to have them back. Everyone is looking forward to it and we have seen a real spike in training this week because everyone wants to play this week. The staff have been very busy, people working around the clock to make sure everything is in place for the weekend.” What is your reaction to the Wales squad, great for Tom Rogers, but disappointing for players like Jac Morgan and Rob Evans? DF: “Tom is the ultimate professional, he has made the most of the experience we have here with Leigh, Liam, Steff Evs, Johnny McNicholl. He has latched on to all of them and he has taken certain bits from everyone, he is making sure he is getting the most out of those players when they are around. Physically, he has changed his whole body. During lockdown he built a purpose-built gym in his garage and spent a lot of his money. He took a headstart by investing in himself and he is getting it back in the long run. What he has achieved is down to hard work. As for those who didn’t get selected, I haven’t seen that disappointment first hand. Those boys have turned up to work and got on with it. There is bound to be hurt because as a professional rugby

player you are self-driven and do believe you are the best, but they have all reacted the right way. People are really excited to play on Sunday.” What is the latest on injuries ahead of Edinburgh? DF: “Dane Blacker is back running and kicking, but he won’t make the weekend unfortunately. As I have said previously, we are going to expose players who are important to us next year and give some youngsters an opportunity who haven’t had much rugby this season. Samson Lee has got potential to be in the 23, he is back training fully, he has been training fully for the last two to three weeks. Ryan Conbeer has trained the house down and I am sure everyone will be excited to see him back in the 23.” How will it to be saying goodbye to players? DF: “You look at Werner Kruger, who has been an outstanding pro with something like 500 professional games, this is his last week as a professional rugby player and he is treasuring every moment. Friday will be our last training session as a big group and I am sure the boys will say a few words to say our thanks.” After a tough season, is there a real desire to finish on a high? DF: “100 percent. We want to leave a mark with people, people have missed coming to games especially at Parc y Scarlets where a lot of lives revolve around the games. We want to give them that feeling again, that buzz of what it means to come back so they can really start to look forward to next season.”

SCARLETS U18’s

Young Scarlets denied late on at the Parc S

carlets U18s slipped to their first defeat of the Regional Age-Grade campaign when they were edged out 15-14 by a late Dragons comeback at a sodden Parc y Scarlets. The home side, playing their first competitive fixture for more than a year had led 7-5 at half-time after a try from second row Evan Sheldon, converted by full-back Osian Hill, had countered an early score from visiting centre Oli Andrew. Back-rower Caleb Salmon saw yellow early in the second half, but the Scarlets were able to hold firm with 14 men and when the Pembrokeshire forward returned, the home side were celebrating their second with replacement prop Tom Zoogah showing good strength to cross from close range. Evans again converted to push the Scarlets into a 14-5 lead, but the Dragons fought back strongly and a converted try by replacement Gruff Davies brought them back in touch before fly-half Sam Berry nailed a match-winning drop-goal. Scarlets will look to bounce back when they travel to take on Cardiff (Sunday, June 13) and the Dragons (Wednesday, June 16), before they host Cardiff on Wednesday, June 23 in Llanelli. Euros Evans is the head coach of the U18s, assisted by Gareth Potter, Ricky Guest, Scarlets centre Steff Hughes with the group overseen by Academy skills coach Paul Fisher. Josh Davies will be the U18s’ strength and conditioning coach.

Y Gair Olaf M

a’ hi wedi bod y tymor rygbi mwya’ od ma’ unrhyw un yn ei gofio diolch i’r Cofid – y meysydd rygbi’n wag o gefnogwyr, a gwylio gemau ar y teledu neu dim byd oedd yr unig ddewis. A wedyn, mâs o nunlle daeth Cwpan yr Enfys. Wel, do a naddo. I godi’r galon a chyflymu’r gwaed roedd pawb yn edrych mlân yn eiddgar at ymweliade gan y Bulls, Lions, Sharks a’r Stormers o Dde Affrica. Pawb yn edrych mlân at ymwelwyr o Dde Affrica a dim byd ond siom na fyddan nhw’n dod wedi’r cyfan. Mor wahanol oedd hi jyst dros hanner can mlynedd yn ôl. Nôl yn 1970 roedd taith y Springboks i Brydain ac Iwerddon yn destun trafod, protestio ac ychydig o drais. Y testun llosg, wrth reswm, oedd apartheid ac a ddylid whare yn erbyn tîm a oedd yn cael ei ddewis ar sail lliw eu croen. I bobol ifanc heddiw ‘falle’i bod hi’n anodd dirnad yr emosiwn a achoswyd gan y daith; i’r rhai ohonon ni oedd yn cefnogi ac yn whare rygbi yn y cyfnod ma’r atgofion yn gymysg iawn. Sa i’n mynd i gynnig barn a oedd hi’n iawn i’r daith fynd yn ei blaen ai peidio. Heddiw, pan fydd timau rhyngwladol yn ymweld â’r ynysoedd hyn maen’ nhw’n whare gemau rhyngwladol, a ‘falle’r Barbariaid, cyn troi am adre mewn mater o wythnose. Nid felly oedd hi hanner can mlynedd yn ôl – taith o ddechre Tachwedd tan ddiwedd mis Ionawr yn cynnwys 25 o gemau. Ma’r dyddie pan oedd tîm rhyngwladol yn whare yn erbyn Prifysgol Rhydychen, London Counties a’r Combined Services yn ogystal â’r prif glybie wedi hen ddiflannu o’r tir. Welwn ni fyth mo’u tebyg eto.

Anodd credu hefyd bod tîm mor bwerus â De Affrica wedi colli i Brifysgol Rhydychen, Casnewydd, a Gwent, tra’n colli hefyd i Lloegr a’r Alban a chael gemau cyfartal yn erbyn Cymru a’r Iwerddon. Beta i bod y ddwy gêm gyfartal 3 v 3 yn erbyn y Western Counties a’r South of Scotland wedi bod yn humdingers o rygbi deniadol ! Wrth reswm, roedd dishgwl eiddgar am y gêm yn erbyn Llanelli ar y Strade. Dyma’r unig dro i fi gytuno’n llwyr gyda geirie’r sylwebydd J B G Thomas (a oedd, yn fy marn i’n well fiction writer na’i fab, Craig): “O holl ardaloedd Ynysoedd Prydain, Llanelli yw’r mwya’ brwdfrydig yn ei diddordeb ac ymrwymiad i ffwtbol. Yma mae mwy o gefnogwyr yn ôl maint yr ardal, ac ymhob ffordd dyma glwb llwyddiannus a chroesawgar”. Gwir y gair. A ma’ “ffwtbol” yn perthyn i oes arall erbyn hyn hefyd. I’r ychydig rai ohonoch a oedd yn bresennol ar 20 Ionawr 1970 fe fyddwch yn cofio’r Strade ar ei mwyaf mwdlyd a llacsog. Ond siom fuodd i dîm Carwyn (a arhosodd yn yr ystafell newid i ddangos ei wrthwynebiad i apartheid) a cholli o 10 pwynt i 9 ar waetha cais wych gan yr asgellwr Alan Richards ac un hwyr gan Brian Butler. O na fydde trosiad Hamilton Jones wedi llwyddo i roi buddugoliaeth hanesyddol arall i ni. Os odych chi’n siomedig i beidio gweld wharaewyr o Dde Affrica eleni, byddwch ddiolchgar – weles i ormod ohonyn nhw yn y gyflafan yn erbyn Sale!
