Club Christmas Picnic Fullarton Community Centre

Club Christmas Picnic The annual Club Christmas Picnic is on again. Sunday December 6 from 11am to 3pm. This is for all sections and will be held on the southern side of the Fullarton Community Centre. Father Christmas will arrive at 1 pm. Parents please bring a present with name tag securely attached. Games for children and ice creams for small and big kids alike.





Establishment of Collingrove Hillclimb Has anyone got any photos of the establishment of the Collingrove Hill Climb Track?

I’m working with the Club Library to get together photos of Collingrove so we can establish some sort of a history of this valuable Club asset. Surprisingly, no history exists at present!

I’m particularly interested in photos that are of historical interest but would be happy to examine all photos loaned to me.

All photos will be cared for and returned to the Library; my intention is to scan any of particular interest and burn them onto DVDs for Library use and eventually Library loan to any interested members.

I can be contacted at the address/phone here or any photos can be left with the Library staff to be forwarded to me and I can pick them up from there.

Events Co-Ordinator Members may or may not be aware that the Events Coordinator Contractor, Penny Gordon, as a result of exceptional circumstances, is no longer available for that position.

We are therefore seeking a replacement person to meet the demands of our Events Office and to fulfil the tasks required to conduct motor sport competition at both Collingrove Hillclimb and Mallala.

Persons interested in this interesting but demanding job should contact myself to obtain a Job Specification which outlines the responsibilities of the position.

Classic News Coming Meetings Friday 4 December Don't miss the last Classic meeting of 2009, sponsored by BEA and will feature two beautiful Mercedes Benz on stage, one a classic model from Peter or Ray's collection and the other something new and spectacular from the showroom floor. There will be wonderful raffles prizes to be won and supper will be of a Christmas flavour.

Cocktails @ 6pm in the Gosse bar, meeting starts at 8pm.

Bring your sweetheart and some friends too. Everyone is welcome!

Coming Events Friday 1 January This doubles as an event and a meeting.

Meeting on the Move is exactly what it suggests. We start from 5.45 for a 6.30pm departure from the car park on Fullarton Road next to the old Victoria Park racecourse, then head for the hills for a leisurely evening cruise to arrive at the Belair Country Club. Upon arrival you will be offered a complimentary cocktail, then sit down for a lovely two course dinner. Full bar facilities available as usual. Great raffle prizes as usual and that includes Tim Carrig too! All for a modest $28pp. Be quick to enter, club closes for Christmas, last bookings taken 16th December. Entries limited to the first 140 people. It has always been a popular event and it's a great way to start 2010. Everyone is welcome.

Sunday 21 February Keep this date in mind, Gordon Taylor is planning the "Classic 100" which is a simple navigational fun run ending up back at the club for a bbq cooked by the classic committee. Entry forms will be available hopefully for December meeting, definitely for Meeting on the Move.

Hillclimb Competition Committee We have had a good year with many entries in the Hillclimbs, some trying conditions postponing Wintercup 3 twice, first with heavy rain and six weeks later heatwave of 40 degrees.

Now that the competition has finished for the year the trenching will begin for the new timing system, a special thanks goes to Geoff Vardon for the hours he has put in pouring over specifications and assembling equipment.

The committee would like to pass on to all the officials our thanks for their dedication and hard work during the year, sometimes under very trying conditions.

We would like to thank all our generous sponsors for their donations to the SA Hillclimb Championships and congratulate Michael Bishop for his package he put together for sponsorship.

The committee has worked extremely hard in keeping Collingrove in running order and setting up for the new timing system, thanks to all from Peter Hall for making the job of Chairman so easy. Peter would like to pass on his thanks to Committee members and competitors for their help at working bees during the year. We wish all the competitors and officials the compliments of the season and see you in the New Year.

HRR News A big thanks to Trevor Lambert for bringing along his 1922 Willy’s Overland for display on stage in 39 degree heat. It once held the fastest time between Melbourne and Adelaide in a time of 14hours, 51 minutes. Nicely restored and found derelict in a barn, when asked what Trevor’s interest in such a vehicle was, he replied “I dunno, I just like the look of it”.

Trevor’s other daily driver is a 600bhp Elfin ME5.

Library News IMPORTANT REQUEST: For an overseas benefactor, we urgently require a copy of BROOKS BOOK No.7. (A Collection of Photographs, 1919-1931). Can you help please?

Recent events like the Bay to Birdwood, the Goodwood Revival, the Pebble Beach Concours and its associated Auctions, all displayed a myriad of body styles from eras when cars were quite different from each other and famous Stylists and Designers had a freer hand in what was offered to the public, whether it was exotic or ordinary.

There are many books in the Library about these Designers and their products. Notably, BERTONE, 90 YEARS (two volumes), ZAGATO (two volumes), SPORTS CAR BODYWORK, BODIES BEAUTIFUL (a history of car styling), CHROME DREAMS, DELAGE : STYLING and DESIGN, DREAM CARS and FROM PASSION to PERFECTION. Then there are the Marque history books with hundreds of beautiful photographs, so there is plenty of styling information for any level of interest.

If you enjoyed one of our most popular books, Jim Gullan’s AS LONG AS IT HAS WHEELS, with its descriptions of racing and special building, and have an interest in building specials, Formula 5000 or the Tasman series in the 70s, you will enjoy WHEN THE ENGINE ROARS, by the extraordinary NZ engineer George Begg who built 18 specials which were able to compete with the world’s best at that time.

Vintage News Previous events/meetings October 30/November 1 A number of our section attended the Milang weekend – thanks to organisers Geoff and Chris Chennells for a brilliant weekend, reported no doubt in much greater detail elsewhere.

November 8 was our Mad Hatter Tea Party - only 5 cars and occupants braved the extreme heat. Those who attended report having enjoyed the day. Thanks to Steve Day for his efforts in organising this event.

Coming Meeting December 11 Ghosts of Christmas Past! Anything to do with Christmas - presents (not necessarily toys) received, decorations or just tales of Christmas. Please bring a plate of food to share (and give Major Tony Cooper the night off)!

March 14 – Wittber Run – Vintage & Classic Run to Greenfields & SA Aviation Museum to celebrate SA’s first flight.

Meander to Milang – this weekend rally was very successful with 19 entries and a great mix of people and cars.

Unfortunately several vehicles misbehaved and were taken home to be either repaired or swapped for a more reliable one, but their drivers rejoined us by lunchtime. Thanks to all those who attended and to Penny & John Hutton who hosted pre-dinner drinks on Saturday night.

HQ News For HQ people. by the time you read this we will all know the results of the 2009 series, both HQRR of SA, State Race Championship and various awards.

Everyone else should know we have had another great year providing substantial fields at all events which in most cases made "club" race meetings possible.

CONDITIONAL REGISTRATION FOR HISTORIC VEHICLES

To all Members who have vehicles registered under this scheme, there is some confusion as to when log books need to be renewed. Log books are valid for 3 years, these are th registration years, not club membership years. If you register a vehicle; say on the 9 th December 2000 you log book would be valid until 8 December 2003 – 3 years. After th registering your vehicle for 9 December 2003 you must apply to the club for a new log book. The expiry date should be written on the top of the front cover of your log book.

Pages 2 and 3 of your log book are for confirming your club membership. The club financial st membership year commences on the 1 July each year and under the club constitution, th membership fees must be paid by the 14 August the following year to remain a financial th member. At the time of paying your membership fees, by the 14 August you must have the above pages stamped and signed by a club representative. Note: there are four section in the log book for recording of membership. If you first register a vehicle in December, 6 months of your club membership has expired, therefore you will require 4 confirmations of club membership for the 3 years of registration.

Note: To have your vehicle registered under this scheme you must remain a financial member of the club.

To apply for a new log book or to have it stamped and signed to confirm you are a financial member of the Club you must have the following:-
