I

t is a sincere pleasure to welcome you to Sarasota County, the cultural

capitol of Florida. Now that you are here, we encourage you to immerse yourself in

this magical community where artistic expression and inspiration meet. Sarasota is one of the few places in the country that can provide the quality and quantity of artistic offerings that are found here. Combine this with the most beautiful beaches in the world and fantastic year round weather and the result is your own cultural paradise. From North Port and Englewood to Venice and Sarasota, the area is bursting with top-notch performing arts halls, galleries, museums, art centers, botanical gardens, aquariums and universities. We have our own opera house, ballet, symphony orchestra, professional and community theatres and circus. If your interests include architecture, literary arts or poetry, you will find a mecca of opportunity for inspiration and personal fulfillment while you are here. We hope this guide will help you find and enjoy the collective energy of Sarasota’s arts and cultural community. If you need additional information, please contact our staff at the Arts and Cultural Alliance. We will be happy to help you in every way possible. Our contact information is: www.sarasotaarts.org | 941.365.5118 ext. 304. Sincerely,

Sego’s

dramatic artwork was chosen for the cover

of this guide. Sego’s work was selected from many beautiful submissions in a contest for lo-

cal artists sponsored by the Alliance and SCENE Magazine. Bettina moved to Florida in 2000 and concentrated increasingly on experimenting with various art media, focusing mostly on acrylics, mixed media and collage. She started exhibiting in 2005, and since then her work has been shown in many juried exhibitions at the Sarasota and Longboat Key Art Centers, The Florida Museum for Women Artists, Raymond James, Met Life, Asolo Rep and The Players Theatre, and the Audubon Artists Annual Exhibition in New York. Her artwork is represented by 530 Burns Gallery in Sarasota and Nikki Sedacca Gallery in Martha’s Vineyard and can be found in private and corporate collections in the United States, Canada and Germany.
