The real

.

Don’t be pressured into inviting those who others want you to invite, or those who you think might be offended if they aren’t - if you're doubting whether you want someone there then maybe they should ask themselves why they're not invited, rather than trying to guilt trip you into inviting them! bride guide

O

rganising a wedding is no small task, and bridesto-be are often left in full Bridezilla mode trying to perfect plans for what is supposed to be the happiest day of their lives (no pressure, hey ladies?!) However our team of real brides - who have already been on the journey that you’re embarking on - have shared some excellent tips from their own wedding planning experiences that will help save your sanity, and possibly your pennies!

I spent so much of my wedding going round talking to everyone I barely had chance to enjoy it. When my friend got married, she said 'It’s my wedding, if people want to talk to me they’ll come to me' I wish I'd done it her way. Debbie D

The most useful advice I received was to try on all different dress styles. I ended up with a style I would never have set out to buy because I didn’t think it would suit me but in the end I felt like a princess!! The most difficult part was the guest list and trying not to offend people.

5.

8.

Most importantly, remember who the day is actually about. Take a few moments throughout the day to take stock of what is happening around you because it’s all over so quickly. Charlotte W

6.

Do it your way, forget what you 'should' do and do what you want to do! You can pick the running order, whether or not you have a top table, first dance etc - none of that really matters! Lorraine D

Don’t bother with favours! We bought vaccines and carriers through Oxfam and put a little note on the table saying we had made a donation on their behalf instead of buying favours. Laura M

7.

Spend your money on what matters to YOU, not other people. I spanked my money on music and decorations were homemade. Nicola L

Hire a videographer, that way you can relive everything you can't remember. The day goes in a flash and you won't remember everything. Do what you want to do - it's your day. Sarah L

Bespoke botanical cocktails What better way for your guests to toast you as newly-weds than with a cocktail created by you! Whether you go for a classic champagne cocktail flavoured with rose or lavender, or opt for a potent blackberry sour with hints of rosemary, the idea is to get creative and get personal - find a drink that you and your futurespouse love and serve it to your guests on your wedding day.

Coffee bars Move over 'pimped' Prosecco, there's a new kid in town! Oh yes, one of this year's hottest wedding drinks trends is the gourmet coffee bar, complete with warm frothed milk, gorgeous syrups of all descriptions, sugar stirrers, whipped cream, bespoke coffee cups and piles of gourmet doughnuts on the side! Start with good quality dark and light roasts, then let your guests do the rest.

News/ Trends

No 1 first dance song Spotify revealed their top ten ‘first dance’ songs of 2018, and there’s not much surprise at who holds the number one spot - it’s our fave, Ed Sheeran with ‘Thinking Out Loud’, followed by ‘At Last’ by Etta James, and ‘You Are The Best Thing’ by Ray LaMontagne’s.

Unplugged Wedding guests are often so caught up trying to capture special moments from your day on their phone, that they're not really experiencing the moment with you. If you're paying a photographer to take photos on your big day, help them do their job by politely asking guests to put their phones during the ceremony and reception, giving the photographer the best chance of capturing those exquisite first looks and raw emotions without having to contend with a sea of phone (and iPad) screens. Encourage guests to enjoy your day with their eyes on you, not looking at you through the screens of their phones.

13 Viktor & Rolf Marriage

Photo: Adrian Dewey

Dutch design house Vicktor & Rolf are known for their avant garde designs, which blur the lines between fashion and art. Now, in collaboration with world-renowned wedding dress designers and producers, Justin Alexander, the design duo have successfully launched their fourth Viktor & Rolf Marriage line - a range of luxury wedding dresses with a fashion edge. We love the bold silhouette and layers of tulle, and the contrasting sleek, simple wedding playsuits.

Big balloons

Shuck it

We love giant balloons and they're on trend! They come in so many gorgeous colours, you can tie them in with any theme and they look wonderful in wedding pics. Fill them with fairy lights or choose clear balloons with glitter in for extra twinkle!

Well known as an aphrodisiac, oysters are an increasingly popular alternative to serve at the drinks reception in place of canapĂŠs and finger foods. Serve with fresh lemon, mignonette, or plain for the purists among you. Rather than champagne, the experts suggest a chilled glass of crisp Muscadet as the perfect accompaniment for these little tastes of the sea.

Get a Wedding Sitter Kids are kids, and they don't often like to be sat still for long periods of time, so you might find a child-minding service like, My Wedding Sitter, useful. Paige helps make the day enjoyable for small children without taking them away from the action, perfect for those moments when they need a little extra attention. myweddingsitter.co.uk

Warehouse weddings Red brick, concrete and cavernous interiors, there's a reason why warehouse weddings are gaining popularity. If you're looking for an excitingly alternative venue, then have a look for old factories and warehouses to host your industrial-inspired wedding in. Set the stage with swathes of soft linens, acres of foliage and statement floral arrangements. Create ambience with soft amber light from vintage chandeliers, geometric glass vases and plenty of candles.

Anna D’Amato

The opening of the Anna Couture Brides bridal boutique was met with great celebration from friends, family and fans of talented owner / designer, Anna D'Amato.

A

nna, a costume design graduate with years of experience in film and TV, opened her first boutique on Cheyne Lane in Stamford just 18 months

ago, building a sound reputation amongst the area's style-conscious ladies for being the go-to destination for gorgeous gowns, vintage pieces and couture corsetry. A handful of thoughtfully selected wedding dresses were sold in the boutique too, including a number from Chanticleer, a British bridalwear designer and manufacturer very much influenced by historical dress design, much like Anna's own designs. When the timely opportunity arose for Anna to buy the Chanticleer label, she did so without hesitation.

With the need for more space, Anna went on the hunt for bigger premises, discovering a gorgeous property opposite The George Hotel on High Street, St Martins; surrounded by the town's celebrated architecture, it's a fitting location for a design house which draws so much inspiration from centuries of design. Anna and her team of highly-skilled seamstresses are already hard at work on their first Chanticleer capsule collection. Finding inspiration everywhere, Anna's designs are influenced by designers worldwide, rather than what is trendy here; the collection promises individuality, chic silhouettes, with urban and theatrical touches. Anna has a natural eye for what looks right, and is able to understand a bride's vision for their wedding dress.

15

"the collection promises individuality, chic

With work rooms and acres of fabric on the premises, Anna and her team are able to offer brides an exciting couture experience, bringing a dress design to life in front of you, or altering a gown to fit you perfectly. With an infectiously warm and genuine demeanor, and a thoughtful and honest approach, you will walk away from The House of Anna Couture, feeling confident that your needs and wants will be met, and that your dress will have you feeling like a leading lady. Festival feel

ne wedding trend that is not going to go away any time soon is the appearance of street food and fizz vans at the evening reception. Hugely popular at festivals and music events, mobile trailers and vans add a fun, informal, personal touch to your wedding day, and there’s something for everyone.

The Gin & Fizz Van

The Crepe Cabin

This old horse box was lovingly converted by local company Catering Van Conversion into a stylish, fully equipped gin and fizz bar, with a beautiful real-wood interior. Friendly, professional staff are included in the hire fee, and will be happy to serve you and your guests your favourite tipple throughout the day. Stocked with a choice of fizz and a wide range of gins, the van also comes equipped with taps, catering for the real ale lovers among you; cocktails can also be added to the menu. All glass wear is included and the van can be decorated with fairy lights and accessories to suit the theme of your day.

We love The Crepe Cabin’s beautifully light crepes made fresh to order with gluten free and egg free options available. The Crepe Cabin have a great menu, including time old classics like lemon and sugar, cheese and ham, chocolate and peanut butter, as well the inventive ‘Italian’ with mozzarella, parma ham, rocket and pesto, or the hugely popular 'S'more' made with biscuit, marshmallow and chocolate sauce. Crepes work well as an afternoon pick-me-up, part of the evening meal, or as a latenight snack to fuel some dance floor madness!

We do, we don’t… From the moment you get engaged, your thoughts may be to rush out to book your dream venue and find your dream dress, but hold that thought…

P

lanning the average wedding takes over 260 hours, says Without a Hitch’s Sarah Gee, so it’s important to take time to enjoy your engagement first; share the wonderful news with your closest

friends and family and truly savour this time. Sarah shares her top wedding tips for a stress-free wedding.

- Start with your budget, deciding together what you will and won’t compromise on, this way it’s easier to make funds available for the things that are really important to you. - Don’t worry about smaller, personal touches until later on; once your budget is in place, the most important step is to find and secure that dream venue, and then work out who’s invited! - Take your time trying on dresses, and be open to suggestions - the style that looks best on your body might not be one you’d have chosen yourself. - Don’t rush to book your suppliers - listen to recommendations from friends, shop around, and when possible, meet/get to know the people who will help bring your wedding day vision together.

18

- It’s best to plan your hen and stag dos for at least a month or so before the wedding, just in case of broken bones and hangovers...! - Take time to pamper yourself on the night before the wedding - book a massage, get a facial or have a girly night with your bridesmaids to help you relax. If you’re staying in a hotel, take an emergency kit with things like a needle and thread, plasters...

- If budgets don’t allow for a wedding planner, consider having a co-ordinator for the day itself, this well alleviate stress for you and your partner, allowing you to enjoy yourselves without worry. - Don't forget to take time out alone with your partner during the day to enjoy your special moment - they will be incredibly precious memories to share.

Without A Hitch Wedding Event Planning Services include: • Party planning • Event day management • Bridal PA • Event hosts • In house bridal experts/seamstress • In house makeup expert • Preferred supplier listing • Vendor listings

Wedding Review "If you are looking for the perfect wedding then this venue will not disappoint. Bring your own personality and build your day around this stunning backdrop. Your guests will be blown away!

• Stunning riverside location at Water Newton on the River Nene. • Informal English gardens that you hire for the wedding you want to create for up to 150 guests. • Access to preferred suppliers and a choice of one of our three wedding cars. • Available accommodation for up to 10 guests in 3 holiday cottages. • We are on hand throughout your event to coordinate logistics, suppliers and guests.

Saint Remigius church is in itself a hidden treasure, a well-kept secret by the locals. Built in the 13th and 14th century, restored in the late 1800’s. It will comfortably hold 120 people. Its size makes it a very intimate setting. The local clergy were most helpful all the way through the planning process. Father Hayden, a very warm man, and dare I say, came over a little eccentric, which only added to the occasion and had our guests smiling the whole way through. As a couple, we wanted something completely unique, the picture perfect church next to the picture-perfect venue. We wanted our guest to literally walk out of the church and straight into a garden reception and be hit by the WOW factor. You only have to walk 50 ft from the church door! Then you are in a beautifully kept waterside garden with lush green grass, mature flower beds, water features and full weeping willows, all gently sloping down to the River Nene and overlooking Water Newton lock. Our guests were truly amazed, they are still talking about it today. At the top of the garden, there is a level area for a Marquee which looks down on the idyllic scene. The hosts to this beautiful location are Stephen and Philip, both with very large personalities and a pair of true gentleman who are only too happy to help in any way they can. They can also advise on suppliers should you need help. Attached to Mill House are three cottages steeped in charm, we also hired these for the weekend. As you would expect from Philip and Stephen these are also spotless and everything has its place. A truly remarkable day, memorable in every way. Having the church in the backdrop of our reception made the church part of our wedding all day, something that made the 'getting married in church thing' even more special."

The Hideaway offers a dreamy space where daylight dapples through the trees as guests watch vows being exchanged under the shelter of the licensed structure, yet just a short wander up the winding path from The Hideaway lies the woodland venue, providing an equally wonderful space for those preferring to marry inside. Designed to ‘let the outside in’, the venue’s large sliding glass doors let in oodles of light and the freshness of the woodland air year round. A fully stocked bar as well as dining space where in-house chefs serve up your preferred choice of catering can also be found within the venue. Carefully designed menus offer more formal celebratory meals through to feast stations that are great for relaxed dining. Prosecco, gin or rum bars can entertain guests during a drinks reception,

perhaps alongside garden games and a DIY photo booth. The venue’s blank canvas and ample space allows you to put your personal stamp on your wedding day. For the evening, the venue turns into a versatile space where guests can dance the night away, devour more food and catch up over a drink on the outside decking. Bride Review

You had me at hello! Bride Review at Orton Hall Hotel

Abbey and Jonny met in 2013 when working together at a local hotel. They caught each other’s eye and from the first uttering of hellos, Abbey knew that she had to get to know him. Just months later, Jonny made his feelings for Abbey clear.

41

J

onny had moved to Peterborough from Newcastle and was temporarily living in the hotel where we both worked. He started ordering room service every day on the off-chance he’d get through to me, and when he did, we would have a little chat over the phone. We soon started dating, spending every minute we could together. Just a few months later, Jonny returned home to Newcastle for Christmas, leaving me a few presents and a card that read ‘To the one I love’ - I had told Jonny when we started dating that I’d never really enjoyed Christmas, so his welltimed words really meant a lot to me. He surprised me again exactly two years later; we were getting ready to go to my mums for Christmas dinner, when he handed me a scratch card. I turned around, scratching away to see if I’d gotten lucky, little did I know I was about to reveal the top prize - a proposal from Jonny! When I turned around, Jonny was down on one knee with a ring in his hand. I said yes, much to Jonny’s relief. I had no idea he was going to propose that day, even though we had already been to look at wedding venues together! After visiting a few venues further afield and deciding they were too far for our guests to travel, we went to look at Orton Hall. Jonny had never been there but having lived in Australia and the States, he was keen on our wedding being a truly traditional affair in a ‘proper English property’ and was won over by Orton Hall’s history, the grounds and the grand fireplaces. The conservatory was also gorgeous and we decided to have our ceremony there too. I went dress shopping with my mum at The Wedding Room in Peterborough. I had no idea what I wanted, my only ask was that it wasn't strapless, so I tried on a lot of dresses! By the end of the day I was convinced that I wasn’t going to find the dress... until I tried on one of The Wedding Room's own strapless gowns, I felt beautiful and it fitted perfectly! The night before the wedding, Jonny and I went for meals with our respective family and close friends. On the morning, while Jonny was nervously getting

ready with his dearest, closest friends, I was feeling remarkably calm, much to the surprise of my mum and bridesmaids. Emotions only really took over when I revealed my dress to my dad and brothers just before walking down the aisle, and that’s when the tears came and just wouldn’t stop! The day was beautiful. Having all of our friends and family together was amazing; Jonny will never forget the hours before the wedding, or how his best man kept him calm as he waited for me at the end of the aisle. One thing that really made the day for me was my mum reconnecting with my grandparents; knowing this reconciliation happened during our wedding day makes my heart burst with pride, as well as being honoured by the presence of Jonny’s Australian friends, who had travelled so far to be part of our day. My stepdad once made a joke that if I ever found anyone to marry me, he would have Lionel Richie sing at my wedding. I'd long forgotten this, until I was asked to wait in the middle of the dance floor and Lionel started singing!

42

"The day was beautiful. Having all of our friends and family together was amazing."

It wasn't the real one, obviously, but it was my brother - such a personal touch and I can't thank him enough for making me laugh and cry at the same time. We honeymooned in Australia, visiting Hamilton and the Gold Coast, visiting Jonny's best man and his sister, who had been there with him on the wedding morning. We managed to tick a few things off the bucket list, including a thrilling helicopter ride, although our biggest thrill has come with the expectance of our first baby - due in January, it could well be a Christmas baby!

The day went so quickly, I wish we could do it again but slow down time to savour every moment! We managed to get a few moments alone - we just giggled and took a selfie - but I will never forget those moments. Being surrounded by our loved ones laughing and smiling made the day for us.

Blushing Bride Bare or bold, traditional or modern, your wedding makeup should be a reflection of your personality and style; if you don’t usually wear a lot of makeup then don’t be tempted to trowel it on for your big day - not only will your partner want to recognise you when you’re walking down the aisle, you will want to recognise yourself in your wedding photos, as well as feeling comfortable during the day! The aim of bridal make-up is for you to look like the best version of yourself...

B

arely there.

Let your natural beauty shine through with fresh dewy skin and natural tones. Use a light touch of primer, foundation and concealer where needed (under-eye concealer is the one product you may want to use a little more of for your wedding makeup). Set areas prone to shine with a dusting of fine face powder, finish with light pink cream-blush and a touch of illuminator to create an enviably rosy glow. Brows should be full and groomed but natural. A subtle rose-pink lip colour and a couple of coats of lash thickening mascara complete the look.

44

High drama Step-aside blushing brides, this is a look for women with confidence in spades! Sexy, sultry and utterly alluring, smokey eyes are increasingly popular with brides on their big day and guaranteed to get grooms hot under the collar. If you're attempting to create this look yourself, get plenty of practice beforehand and give yourself plenty of time on the morning to perfect the look - blending is of paramount importance! Start with your eyes then move on to the rest of your face - gorgeous dewy skin, with a subtle pink blush and pink lip keeps the look fresh and balanced.

45

Women have been staining their lips for millennia - it's even said that Cleopatra crushed bugs to colour hers. Luscious red lips scream of seduction and sexiness, but can also be elegant, demure and modern - it's all about how you work it. This look is about bringing colour and sass to your bridal makeup. Flawless skin is accentuated with a touch of coral blush and a hint of orange shadow swept across the hood. It's important to get the right shade of red for your skin tone, so try plenty of lipsticks on, viewing them in natural lighting before making a purchase.

The finishing touch

Talented local designer, Amanda Caroline, talks inspiration, maidens and Paloma Faith…

I

was always very inspired by the mythological female as a child - the maidens, tree nymphs, dryads and naiids of Narnia derived from Greek mythology,

and Tolkien’s Rivendell elves. I was also drawn to any kind of decorative embellishment inspired by nature, and the women of Art Nouveau, Alphonse Mucha’s in particular, with the highly decorative headpieces, draping fabrics and complete synergy with nature and organic shapes. Studying Textile Design at Nottingham Trent University, I specialised in embroidery and fabric manipulation; my plan was to go into costume design for fantasy film, however, a bridalwear designer, Angela Vickers, came along to my degree show and suggested that (in ivory) my designs could work well as bridalwear - a bridal gown, after all, is a costume of sorts.

I worked as a bridal textile designer for some time, embellishing dresses and embroidering corset panels, however, I wanted to take an idea from initial design concept through to the finished product myself. I would look at various headpieces and thought that with my embroidery background I may be able to create something for the bridal market but with a little difference. I now work for myself and create all kinds of products, very often involving embroidery, and inspired by fantasy and nature; intricate wireworks of beads, crystals and freshwater pearls in headpieces for the brides, circlets for flower girls, fascinators for wedding guests, outlandish hats for the races and glamorous burlesque and costume pieces for showgirls. I’ve designed costume headpieces for Paloma Faith, my Ascot hats have been featured in Vogue Italia online and OK magazine, and my favourite commission piece - a glittery costume piece for burlesque performer Miss Betsy Rose - was worn on stage in New York.

"Brides will bring along dress photos, fabric swatches and Pinterest images for inspiration, and I work closely with them to realise their ideal look for their special day." As exciting and challenging as these one-off commissions are, what I really love is giving a personal, bespoke service to my everyday customers. Brides will bring along dress photos, fabric swatches and Pinterest images for inspiration, and I work closely with them to realise their ideal look for their special day. Sometimes they bring along sentimental pieces such as a Grandmother’s earring or brooch for me to incorporate into the design, making their headpiece truly unique. My fascinator and hatinator collection for the mother-of-the-bride and mother-of-the-groom ranges from small and discreet to eye-catching and bold. I create a design that complements both their personality and their ensemble. I enjoy the changing bridal trends but have a particular soft spot for the natural, bohemian look; rustic woodland weddings, maiden-like floaty dresses, hair loosely curled and worn down, elegant circlets and browbands. Design wise it has come full circle, I now get to indulge my creativity and make what I have always loved - simple, feminine pieces for the ethereal female; natural, relaxed, bohemian designs best worn in a flowing dress, with bare feet and in a woodland setting.

We love the subtlety of tonal beading. .

Hot bridalwear

trends

Naked dresses are everpopular, with intricate lacework covering you in all the right places, giving gorgeous glimpses of what's underneath.

Nipped in at the waist with a voluminous skirt, the ballgown is one of the most forgiving wedding dresses. For a modern take on this classic style opt for delicate, floaty fabrics with plenty of swish.

Bows are BIG news

51

For the thoroughly modern bride, the two piece is taking centre stage right now - we love the endless combination of looks the top/skirt combo allows. Enchanting royal brides have driven the trend for sweeping cathedral trains. Nothing screams 'I'm important' quite like three metres of fine fabric flowing behind you as you walk up the aisle, apart from, perhaps, marrying a Prince...

Show stopping, colour popping... why wear white when you can wear any colour under the sun? One of the biggest trends in wedding dresses right now is making a statement with colour. If you're not so keen on channeling the rainbow, why not meet half way with these beautiful hues?

Bride Review

Talk about meant to be.. Bride Review at Irnham Hall After a fun night in with a friend led to a chance online meeting, everything else fell seamlessly into place for Olivia and Mark....

H

aving returned to the UK after a season teaching at Summer Camp in the States, I caught up with an old church friend, spending an evening together setting up a dating profile on Christian Connection for girly giggles, unbeknownst to me that the very next day I would be contacted by the man who would become the love of my life, Mark! A week or so later, Mark visited from Leicester for our first date - I felt so nervous I could barely lift my wine glass!

After two years of dating, we returned to America for a three week road trip around lots of amazing National Parks. On the day of the proposal we were exploring Yosemite (a special place for me); we trekked up a waterfall mist trail and had gotten completely soaked but before we left, Mark explained he wanted to go to Glacier Point (a beautiful lookout point high over the valley) to film the sunset. We drove up through the clouds and hiked off the beaten track, finding an incredible clearing on the edge of a cliff which overlooked the entire park. Mark set up the camera and we sat amidst fairy lights that he’d sneaked through customs for this very moment, chatting about life while the sun

set, at which point, he popped the question (at some point whilst dating, I’d jokingly said that if he ever proposed, he should do it where there were mountains, waterfalls, and fairy lights - it was so silly and far fetched but he’d obviously listened!) I was so excited to go dress shopping that we ended up going pretty much as soon as we got back from America. I found my dream dress at The Wedding Room in Stamford. The lovely team suggested a dress that I didn’t really like the look of, but after trying on several dresses that I loved and being disappointed by how they fitted me, I was up for trying anything! The dress zipped up like a glove, it was the perfect shape and style for me and I was overcome with emotion. When I walked out of the changing room to show my mum, auntie and cousin, they immediately started crying, and we knew it was a ‘say yes to the dress’ moment. Mark and I really enjoyed the adventure of looking around lots of different venues. We’d seen some really incredible places with the ‘wow’ factor, by they just didn’t feel ‘right’, even though they seemed to be what we were looking for! We decided to have a look a Irnham Hall with the same expectation, however, when we got there we felt so at home!

“I wish I could re-live it, it was all just so glorious.”

The amazing owners, Jamie and Leila Benton-Jones greeted us with such a kind and warm embrace, their children were running around playing in the gardens and we knew this was much more ‘us’; it wasn’t a high-end, big, fancy hotel chain, it was just a beautiful, friendly, one-of-a-kind sanctuary - it felt like it was meant to be!

bridesmaids and parents next door in the Grand Hall!

On the day of the wedding, I arrived at the hall first thing in the morning, feeling as nervous as the day I first met Mark! I dropped the wedding props off with Leila, then Jamie took me and my bridesmaids to the bridal suite to start having fun getting ready; we spent a few hours getting our hair and makeup done, drinking plenty of champagne as we went. Mark met with his ushers (my brothers) and his best man for drinks in the local pub, before welcoming guests upon their arrival at St Andrews Church, which is conveniently located on site at Irnham Hall - whilst I was sick with nerves having photos taken with my

As our guests enjoyed canapés, bubbly and Pimms, Mark and I were whisked away for photographs. Upon our return, we were welcomed as the new Mr and Mrs. Soon after we were seated in the summer house, where we gorged on wonderful food, followed by incredible speeches from my dad, Mark and his best man - the crowd were crying and laughing at the same time!

We walked over to the church for 2pm (although our guests would say I was a few minutes early!) where we had our beautiful marriage ceremony; afterwards we led our guests from the church through the enchanting walled garden to the summer house, where we had our wedding breakfast and reception.

It was all a bit of a blur but I know everyone had so much fun - I never stopped laughing! I wish I could re-live it, it was all just so glorious, I’m still floating on cloud nine weeks later!

& Booted

If you're a traditionalist, keep your look simple with a dark suit and white shirt; finish the look with well-matched shoes and accessories.

Or go for a modern edge with pinstripes, checks and wide-collared shirts left undone.

If you're more adventurous, take a look at trendy tweeds and tartan suits, or add colour and interest to your outfit with patterned waistcoats, shirts and ties.

When it comes to formalwear, a tux is the height of sophistication - timeless, elegant and refined.

Classic black looks great on everyone, but we are smitten with these bold, modern takes on the tux. If you’re fashion forward and want to make a statement on your wedding day, this is the way to do it and we encourage it...

If you're a free-spirited bride who likes to stir up tradition, then this gorgeously dark and decorative boho look is perfect for you. The deepest, darkest cherry and garnet reds sit alongside bright scarlets and coral, pulled together with acres of chalk white linen in luxe fabrics, green foliage, hints of antique gold and lots of candles.

Enchant guests with a beautifully bold bohemian wedding theme, full of colour, texture and originality.

Floaty fabrics are the call of the day when it comes to the bride and bridesmaids' dresses, with hair worn long and loosely waved, possibly topped with a wild flower crown. The groom could choose from a deep red or forest green suit - we love this red suit and velvet bow tie combo - it would take a confident groom to pull it off, but if you can't do it on your wedding day when can you? Continue the natural, organic feel with a pared back wedding cake - naked cakes topped with berries and flowers works perfectly.

Lose yourself in a sea of muted greens and blues... Delicate and dreamy, this breathtakingly beautiful palette is reminiscent of a sunset walk along the shoreline with the whispering wind delicately dishevelling your hair. It’s fresh, light and airy,

Balance the cooler tones with touches of peach, warm woods, rope or hessian; and add pale peach blooms to your bouquet - they will bring the look to life, nestling harmoniously alongside grey-green and blue-toned foliage. Choose floaty fabrics, for both the bride’s and bridesmaids dresses, tulles work really well with this look and can be incorporated into the venue dressing too. As the light fades, light candles - lots of them, and if budget allows, we suggest going all out with these beautiful True Grace Seashore scented candles.

Channel your inner Grecian goddess with this achingly beautiful white and green wedding theme. With acres of diaphanous fabrics in chalky offwhites, and lush bottle-green foliage stippled with white flowers, this look is soft, airy and somewhat otherworldly. The look manages to be organic and natural, yet refined and elegant. Use hanging flower arrangements to create dramatic focal points, either at the top table or behind you as you take your vows. Touches of taupe will soften the palette and add warmth, while hints of gold add that luxe touch. Use ivy, olive and bay leaves in your bouquets and table flowers as a nod to the ancient Greek theme without being obvious or clichĂŠ.

Persistence paid off… Bride Review at Normanton Park Hotel

Martin wouldn’t give up the chase until he got his first date with Caroline, three years later they committed to each other for life.

I

saw Caroline for the first time when she was managing a local pub. My first attempt to ask her out was rejected as she said she didn't date customers, however I wasn’t

going be put off, so I kept up the pursuit and slowly wore her down! Initially, I thought she fancied my mate, however, it transpired that she liked me, so I invited her to a party where I was singing, on

Our first step was booking our reception venue, Normanton Park Hotel. A few years previously we had been on a boat trip around Rutland Water and had seen a wedding at Normanton Church, which then moved on to the hotel; Caroline said that if we ever got married, that's where she would like it. On the same day we booked the reception venue, which just happened to be exactly a year to the day of our wedding. We also managed to book the Oakham registrar office, and the

After three very happy years with Caroline, I decided to propose. I took her to a local beauty spot at The Grimsdyke Hotel one Sunday lunchtime, and got down on one knee. Caroline knew the style of dress she wanted; we visited a few bridal shops, but settled on The Wedding Room in Peterborough, as Caroline felt that Zoe had really taken on board her requests and fulfilled all of her dress shopping expectations.

We chose Manna Flowers in Deeping for our flowers as they are very local to where we live, and they have always supplied amazing flowers to me over the years. Our cake came from Lillie’s Tea Room, which is also in Deeping; Sarah is very creative, and we didn't want a boring cake. Caroline is a mad cat lady and we have eight cats, so they featured heavily in our theme and needed to be included - Sarah made sugared models of our cats to feature on the cake. Coming from a photography background and having worked as a wedding photographer in my youth, technical ability was paramount; however, for Caroline it was the personality of the photographer that was important and their ability to capture the fun and nature of the day. We met Barney from BGS Weddings at the hotel’s wedding fair and hit it off right away, and he didn't disappoint, it felt like we had invited a friend along on the day.

Entertaining our guests was important to us, so we took them out on the Rutland Belle for a trip around Rutland Water then wowed them with a live band in the evening - I must have watched about 1000 show reels before we picked The Big Pappas from Scotland. They played their hearts out from 7.30 till midnight, with one break, and our guests loved them. If I said that planning the wedding wasn't stressful, I would be lying. You have to have a vision of what you want but you also need to trust the people who are involved. On the day itself, it’s important to relax, take everything in and enjoy it, because it will go fast! Most importantly, remember to have fun. For me, the best memories of the day are seeing Caroline smile the entire time, I felt that all the hard work had paid off. Caroline, says the whole day was amazing, which made it all the better for me - I wouldn’t have changed a thing!

Luxurious locations Honeymoon gift service Audley Travel offers its customers a free-of-charge Honeymoon Gift Service that lets their friends and family contribute to their special trip. This can either be a contribution to the overall cost or purchasing something from the couple’s wish list of activities to enjoy on their honeymoon.

ion t a n i t s e D ideas

Bora Bora Scattered across the South Pacific, French Polynesia’s volcanic islands are some of the most remote in the world. A once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon trip can include diving, whale watching and island hopping. Options include a short stay on one of French Polynesia’s outlying islands – for example Moorea. Covered in green coffee and sugar cane plantations, a stay here gives honeymooners the chance to explore paradise with 4x4 drives and horse riding through pineapple plantations.

Audley’s experts then recommend a stay at a stunning honeymoon property such as Intercontinental Le Moana. This is found on the southernmost point of Bora Bora and is on the doorstep of one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The over-water bungalows make for an impressive sight as they stretch out over the water with breath-taking views of Otemanu and Pahia in the distance. A honeymoon in French Polynesia is perfectly complemented by a stop in Los Angeles before and/or after the flight to the islands.

99 Denis Private Island has only 25 rooms, each a cottage on the beachfront. With no mobile reception, internet or TVs in the rooms it is the perfect place for honeymooners to get away from everything, enjoying some much-needed respite after the run up to their wedding. It’s a flat coral island surrounded by white sandy beaches. It is the ideal spot for diving as it is right on the edge of the Seychelles Bank, where the coral walls plummet to 2,000m. Fishing, windsurfing, sailing and kayaking will keep active honeymooners happy whilst those looking for a tranquil place to relax will be delighted with the beautiful beaches and calm waters which are perfect for some gentle swimming and snorkelling.

The Seychelles For a once in a lifetime experience, Audley recommends island hopping in the Seychelles, splitting the honeymoon between a beautiful and secluded private island where you can disconnect from the outside world and concentrate only on spending time with your new husband or wife and an exclusive resort where chefs from around the world cook whatever the customer requests.

A 30-minute light aircraft flight takes lovebirds on to their home for the next week – Maia Resort and Spa on Mahe island. This luxurious resort is a collection of stunning villas overlooking the bay of Anse Louis on Mahe. The resort employs five chefs from around the world who cook a variety of Creole, French and Asian cuisine. You can either dine in the restaurant or be served in your private villa for a truly romantic evening.

Maldives Whilst the Maldives is known for the high-quality service across the board, Baros really goes the extra mile. It is one of the oldest resorts in the Maldives and arguably one of the best. Its staff tend to stay much longer than average across the Maldives with many of them employed for between 10 and 20 years – making them as much as part of the resort as the hotel itself. The hotel is also highly rated for its food and has won many awards for its romantic atmosphere. Snorkelers will love the resort as it has an excellent house reef, which is fantastic for seeing black tip reef shark.

Adventurous honeymoons Bali Audley Travel’s specialists recommend a two-centre honeymoon in Bali with an exciting adventure tour included. Three nights are spent on a working plantation in Munduk surrounded by lush paddy fields before travelling to the quiet north coast to relax on the beach at a wonderful spa resort - Spa Village Resort Tembok. In Munduk, Audley recommends the Munduk Adventure Tour, which will see newlyweds explore the stunning scenery of the region in off-road buggies, canoes and on foot in the rainforest. The tour is perfect for honeymooners who crave some adventure before relaxing on Indonesia’s stunning beaches.

Bazaruto Archipelago Audley Travel’s Africa specialists recommend an itinerary that takes in two of southern Africa’s highlights – a safari in Sabi Sand Wildtuin, a private reserve on the edge of Kruger National Park, and relaxing on the stunning beaches of the Bazaruto Archipelago in Mozambique. The 11-day trip starts on safari in Sabi Sand Wildtuin, with a game drives on each of the three days with overnight stays in luxurious camps. The trip continues with a flight to Mozambique, then a short and scenic transfer by light aircraft to the Bazaruto Archipelago for five nights. Days on the archipelago can be as active or relaxed as newlyweds want – for example, it is home to some of the most impressive diving and snorkelling in Africa. Other highlights for clients staying here include taking the time to drive around the island, visiting the local community and marvelling over the towering sand dunes on the ocean side of the island.
