WELCOME
Our fourth issue, 2017…what a journey! Did we get your attention? The cover – right? Yeah, we thought you might notice that. We’re proud of our covers, and love getting creative to bring our ideas to reality. We wanted the opportunity to reverse the usual cover style and give you something different; inspired by the long, frosty and dark nights that winter brings, our cover model Charli Fletcher has the perfect look. This issue welcomes even more of the regions’ fantastic businesses to Gravitas. Look out for: accountancy firm Saffery Champness, Anna Couture Boutique, Stamford Stoves and Single Cask, and for the foodies, the delightful new destination pub The George & Dragon in Seaton.

So, what do we have in store? By popular demand we continue our new health and wellness columns from a variety of local experts. We find out more about the award-winning BMW i series, travel to Venice and showcase some of the world’s top ski resorts. We dined with Andrew Corrick, chef patron at The Cherry House in Werrington, and review Il Vicolo Ristorante. We
drank whisky at the Single Cask and indulged ourselves with the treatments and facilities at the Y-Spa at Wyboston Lakes. This issue features the remodelled networking group Connect Peterborough and we hear from our professionals in wealth management, tax, HR and various entrepreneurs with their regular columns. Our business interview is with the fascinating digital marketing guru and entrepreneur Simon Penson of Zazzle Media. Finally, our fashion shoot in collaboration with The Great Northern Hotel and Virgin Trains, features the amazing Anna Couture boutique, Seasalt, Chameleon lingerie and Gagliardi menswear. And, yet again, producing amazing results with his vision and direction behind the camera, Adrian Dewey. Thank you for your continued support and we would like to wish you all a happy and prosperous new year! See you all in 2018.

Health & wellness Mindfulness, holistic healing, fitness, pain management, well-being and nutrition.
Become more mindful in 2018 Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) – eight Week Course Why join a mindfulness course? We all face challenges and pressures in our lives. Sometimes, these can feel overwhelming and most of us would welcome more calmness and focus in everyday life. According to the Stress Management Society (SMS), more than 105 million working days a year are lost as a result of stress in the UK - which doesn’t include its impact on our personal lives. Learning mindfulness practices and principles will not make the challenges disappear, but it can help us step off the treadmill out of the daily flow of demands to create a fresh perspective. Mindfulness gives us a platform upon which we can “surf” the ups and downs of life. It is a tool for expanding our skills to cope with stress and pressure, as well as helping us rediscover daily moments of pleasure and enjoyment. Course dates and times The next programme will start 16 January 2018 6.30pm-8pm in central Peterborough. For more information, please contact Jennifer Cramb.

New Year, new flow
Joint pain
New pressure, new expectations and new dread. What is new in your New Year?
Overcoming winter aches and pains.
Naturally our traditional New Year is in winter. A season where we observe nature adapting and changing our landscape, as it lets go of the colour and brightness; protecting itself from the elements.
When we are cold, our body restricts how much blood it sends around extremities so it can focus on supplying vital organs. This means the joints get less blood and, for some, this can be painful and/or cause tightness or stiffness.
It’s here in winter, a space and time is created to daydream about the future and the year ahead. The seasonal changes can help guide your business and your life as your natural quarterly guide – supporting and nourishing you from within to inject this healthy energy into your business and life. We can change the perception of winter and the New Year to reduce the pressure, expectation and dread. Instead, embracing a season of reflection and nourishment in readiness to blossom in spring; coming into full colour in summer and reaping the harvest in autumn. Wishing you a Happy 2018 filled with natural flow. Emma Lannigan is author of belifehappy, Holistic Wellbeing Coach and Marketing Mentor.
emmalannigan.com
Joint pain can occur anytime throughout the year, but in the cold and wet months of the winter you may find it harder to cope with.
The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis. As we age, the cartilage that cushions our joints gradually wastes away, leading to painful rubbing of bone on bone. An injury to a joint can also trigger osteoarthritis, even many years later. Rheumatoid arthritis occurs when your body’s immune system attacks the joints. The joints and inflamed tissues then become stiff, painful and swollen. Pain is a protective mechanism to stop further damage but arthritic pain doesn’t mean you should dive for the duvet and quit exercising altogether. Remaining active is vital. Exercise will help keep your joints supple, which can reduce pain. There’re plenty of indoor activities available in this area to suit everyone’s taste. Listen to your body, paying attention to pain in or around a joint can help prevent a more serious injury. If something hurts, stop and speak to a professional.

Fitness for health
Let’s talk Solutions! Eat right
Change your life with Function fitness.
Need a clearer pathway to a happier future?
Reach your dietary and lifestyle goals.
How fit you are can be measured in a number of ways; either by a doctor taking your blood pressure or cholesterol or in the gym by looking at things such as flexibility, stamina and power.
Want to talk less about the problems and more about solutions? Solution Focussed coaching is a growing trend.
Good nutrition is the foundation of optimum health and mental well-being for us all. Knowing this is easy, putting it into practice is the difficult part.
A problem shared, can be a problem halved, but friends and relatives don’t always have the answers or effective processes.
I am an experienced dietitian, trained and experienced in translating up-to-date public health and scientific research on food and disease into practical and realistic advice to help you reach your dietary and lifestyle goal. Dietitians are the ONLY nutrition professionals to be regulated by law and governed by an ethical code, to ensure that they always work to the highest standard.
Fitness is extremely important in preparing your body for the unexpected. If you are strong and you have a high level of fitness, your body will be in a much better position to cope with the stress/trauma, meaning you will recover a lot faster. To develop and improve your level of fitness, you need to work across as many domains as possible – for example, cardiovascular, strength, flexibility, speed, and balance. Functional training is multi-faceted and allows you to develop these domains in a short space of time, so you see and feel results quicker. You’ll be taught movement technique and how to scale the movement so it’s appropriate for you and suitable for everyone regardless of physical capacity or ability. Function fitness has changed my life in so many ways, from my overall outlook, the foods I eat and how I deal with stress. Functional fitness is about developing yourself mentally and physically, so you can live the life you want to live.
Tim Britton, Personal Trainer tim@fusion3fitness.co.uk fusion3fitness.co.uk
With Solution Focused coaching it’s believed that people know on some level what changes are needed to create change in their lives. As well as finding a qualified Solution Focused practitioner, here are some questions you can answer for yourself and with your friends to practice having solutionstyle conversations and to see how it can break through old barriers or problems: Write as many answers as possible for each question. If a miracle were to happen overnight, and there were no limitations or rules, what would be different when you woke up? What would you be doing differently? What else would you be doing if you were truly happy? What would need to happen to take a small step/s to get there? Taking action is key. Enjoy the positive exploration! Kim Coley, Solution Focused Hypnotherapist, Reiki Master, Negative Release Treatment.

What can I offer? Fad-free, practical and realistic evidence-based nutrition advice to individuals; providing support and guidance to change food and lifestyle behaviours. On a larger scale, I help companies deliver their nutrition and health messages to their teams. What do I find most rewarding? Helping someone find what works for them; watching their confidence and belief rise; and helping them become a healthier and happier version of themselves. If your diet needs an overhaul, or you have a specific nutrition question don’t hesitate to call. I would be happy to talk through your nutrition concern and YOU can decide if you wish to take the next step.

50 shades of seduction Find your subtle, sultry scent
Perfume available from John Lewis, Boots and the Perfume Shop located in Queensgate Centre
Here are some points to consider as you think about which fragrance to buy. •
Many seductive perfumes have musky tones. The human body has a musky scent that becomes more pronounced during arousal.
•
A seductive fragrance shouldn’t be too strong, you want the perfume to be enticing without overpowering your senses.
•
As a rule, seductive perfumes tend to be slightly heavier than other fragrances.
•
The right perfume, when combined with a woman’s pheromones, can be incredibly seductive.
Burberry For Women - £29.95 100ml
Giorgio Armani Code - £65 75ml
Paris Hilton Can - £22.50 100ml
•
Green apple, blackcurrant, and bergamot notes give this scent a freshness that many seductive fragrances lack.
•
Exotic fragrance notes include blood orange, ginger, jasmine and vanilla.
•
•
The seductive notes come from vanilla, sandalwood and jasmine
•
Deep wood notes bring the sensual side of the woman who wears it to light.
The fruity cassis, nectarine, and orange blossom scent keeps this fragrance young and fun.
•
Notes of musk and wood ground the fruit and make it sexy.
Coco Mademoiselle £85.50 100ml
Ralph Lauren Romance £61 100ml
Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb - £72 100ml
Black Opium Yves Saint Laurent - £81 90ml
•
•
•
This unabashedly feminine scent is bursting with flowers, including freesia, jasmine, orchid and rose.
•
Notes of vanilla are deeply feminine and romantic.
•
White flowers underscore the femininity of the scent.
Patchouli provides just enough depth to make it sexy and give some staying power to the flowers.
•
The base notes are where things get surprising – black coffee and cedarwood ground this fragrance and provide it with a deeply seductive scent.
Citrus notes of orange, grapefruit, and lychee give this fragrance a light, fruity smell when first applied.
This is a seductive fragrance that’s still appropriate for daywear because it’s light enough to be worn to the office and its sexiness is subtle.
•
Florals of rose, jasmine and vanilla provide a floral punch.
•
•
Finally, seductive notes of patchouli and vetiver give it sexiness and staying power.
Major notes of rose and violet help give this perfume a beautiful floral scent.
•
Deeper, seductive tones come from ginger, oak moss and classic musk.
This is a fragrance that costs more than the average perfume, but it also smells expensive and will make any woman who wears it feel fabulous.

Beautiful winter Make-up expert Freya Pell gives her tips to avoid dehydrated skin this season
Winter is a mixed bag. Along with the harsh weather and central heating, we can also enjoy a season of festive food and drink. However, all these factors can have an impact on our skin, leaving it lacklustre, dry, dehydrated and prone to breakouts.

Skincare
So, if you’re suffering from sad winter skin, it is essential to keep it hydrated. Ensure you continue with your skincare routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising and add in a face-mask treatment regularly too. Hydrating masks are the best for dry skin so here are a few options to invest in to give your skin a much-needed boost this season.
Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask £25
Decleor Hydra Floral Expert Mask £32
Lancome Hydra Intense Mask £33
Liz Earle Intensive Nourishing Treatment Mask £17.50
Glamglow Thirsty Mud Hydrating Treatment £42
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Powerful Mask £16.50
Foundation - MAC Face & Body £23.50
Eyeshadow - Chanel Ombre Premiere Crème Shadow £22.50
Make-up Following on from your skincare routine, it’s important to continue hydrating your skin through your make-up by switching a few products in your costmetics bag from powders to liquids/creams. If you use a powder as part of your foundation, swop for a more moisturising cream or liquid. Your cheeks and lips can really suffer in winter too so opt for a cream blush and moisturising lipstick. And the same applies to your eyes. If your eyelids are noticeable drier than normal, change from your usual powder eyeshadows to creams. These few changes will work alongside your skincare routine to keep your skin hydrated and moisturised this winter.

Relax Revive Refresh

Georgie Walsh enjoys the three Rs at Y Spa, Wyboston Lakes.
If you’re looking for a winter retreat this season then Wyboston Lakes has the perfect local sanctuary waiting for you. I recently enjoyed a day at Y Spa and seriously I cannot recommend the experience enough if you’re looking to relax, revive and refresh yourself. From the 11 metre Hydrotherapy Pool to the Salt Steam Room, the facilities have something for everyone. Each of the Thermal Spa Experiences at Y Spa have been created to stimulate circulation and aid the body in eliminating toxins through perspiration while exfoliating dead skin, and no matter which room you decide to explore first you are guaranteed to come out feeling invigorated. The Steam Rooms are definitely my favourite as I can feel my lungs and skin a detoxing while I sweat out the toxins. The Frost Wall is also up there on my list. It’s an extreme contrast to the Steam Rooms and despite proving extremely challenging to stay in there for more than a few minutes (the whole room is freezing) I love the feel of my skin afterwards.
To experience Y Spa to its full potential, I would really recommend booking one of its lovely private treatment rooms and indulging in a massage or facial. I had the Y Spa Fresh Face treatment as well as the Soothing Scalp massage, and I have to say both were equally as relaxing. All of the products and techniques that were used completely energised my skin and the oil that was used in my hair was the perfect pick me up for my tired pink locks! After my treatments I explored the rest of the facilities and fell head over heels with the relaxation areas. I must confess that I actually had a little snooze in there as the hot water beds were just too much for me to resist, but they made for the perfect end to my day of total relaxation.

The
White Stuff St Anton, Austria St Anton is a truly unique recreation paradise for the whole family and is rated as one of the top five resorts in the Alps. Located in Austria’s Arlberg region, one of Europe’s snowiest areas, it boasts 305km of pistes, 200km of off-piste itineraries and more than 55km² of challenging offpiste terrain. In addition, it has a highly efficient lift system (88 lifts). St Anton is an attractive town bursting with stylish hotels, chalets and restaurants. This cozy little town, with 2,470 inhabitants, has maintained its genuine ambiance and charming Tirolean hospitality. Located within two to three hours’ drive of three international airports and with a railway station at its heart, the resort is easy to reach and, once there, small enough to navigate on foot or by the free public buses. Furthermore, St Anton packs some serious heritage – it’s the birthplace of the father of modern skiing, Johann Schneider, as well as being the spiritual home of après, thanks to the infamous Mooserwirt and Krazy Kanguruh bars.

Venetian life Take a winter break in one of the world’s most romantic cities The city of Venice is located in the North East of Italy and is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads – just canals (about 150 of them) – and is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and a wonderful place to visit any time of the year. The hot summer months tend to bring in large numbers of tourists, with the temperature in spring/ autumn cooler but still pleasant, allowing you to sit outside the many cafes and bars. Winter is considered the romantic season, with less visitors and lower prices, making it an appealing time to visit. Venice is easy to explore on foot, although it isn’t the only way to get around – how about being gently punted down the waterways in a gondolier or gliding along the Grand Canal in an open-top water taxi? The Grand Canal thoroughfare is lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces, with the famous Rialto Bridge, an ornate footbridge over the Grand Canal. The central square, Piazza San Marco, is home to St Mark’s Basilica, its landmark

The most progressive sports car Sports car with pathbreaking overall concept repeats the BMW i3’s success of the previous year. For the second time in succession the BMW i clinched victory at the World Car Awards in the category World Green Car. Following the success of the purely electrically driven BMW i3 the previous year, the BMW i8 was awarded this prestigious award at the New York International Auto Show. The sports car’s combination of groundbreaking plug-in hybrid drive technology and innovative lightweight construction together with its avant-garde design was honoured by the international jury at the World Car Awards. The BMW i8 was also one of the finalists in the category World Luxury Car at the World Car Awards 2015, thereby underlining its special position. “I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of the team in Munich,” said Dr Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Sales and Marketing BMW, speaking at the award ceremony in New York. “The BMW i8 represents the future with its unique lightweight construction and unrivalled connectivity. To win this award for the second year in a row shows that our BMW i products are truly leading the world.”
The BMW i8 is the first plug-in hybrid vehicle manufactured by the BMW Group. It combines the performance of a sports car with the fuel consumption and emission figures of a subcompact vehicle. The BMW i8 can be driven up to 37 kilometres under electric power alone, accelerate in the style of a purebred sports car and yet its average consumption is that of a subcompact car. Its 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, equipped with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, is combined with an electric motor. The battery can be charged at a conventional power outlet, at a charging station or simply while driving. The system performance of the BMW i8 is 266 kW/362 hp and it accelerates in just 4.4 seconds to 100 km/h from a standing start (combined fuel consumption: 2.1 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 49 g/km). The extensive use of innovative materials, as well as the i8’s energy-efficient production processes also underline the overall, future-oriented concept. The optional laser headlights and the services developed specifically for electro mobility by the BMW ConnectedDrive team are further proof of the progressive direction taken by the BMW i8.
The extensive use of innovative materials, as well as the i8’s energy-efficient production processes also underline the overall, future-oriented concept. Since 2005, the World Car Awards have been presented annually at the start of the New York International Auto Show and are among the most important international prizes to be won in the automotive sector. The jury is composed of 75 journalists from more than 20 countries. Each summer before the award ceremony, the models nominated in each category are announced, from which an expert committee or the jurors nominate five vehicles in each category (World Car Design of the Year and World Green Car) or 10 vehicles (World Car of the Year, World Luxury Car, World Performance Car). From these, the jury selects the three finalists in the run-up to the Geneva Motor Show, before the winners are finally announced in New York. The BMW i8 is the BMW Group’s third model to be honoured with the World Green Car Award at the World Car Awards, following the BMW 118d in 2008, which represented the BMW EfficientDynamics development strategy, and the BMW i3 the previous year.

Bold enough to look chic, muted enough to work with most design styles, mustard is the new colour statement everyone wants to make at home. Paired with a dark backdrop, mustard stands out, creating a unique and inviting space. Statement armchair or geometric rugs are the perfect way to work this confident colour into a room. The perfect partner in colour to work alongside a mustard tone is the beautiful shade of teal, Hague Blue by Farrow & Ball to be precise. Sitting harmoniously between blue and turquoise is warming teal – the perfect shade for adding depth to a room instantly. It may take confidence to take the leap and use this colour to fill a room, so if your living room or snug is a relatively small space, teal is the perfect colour to set the mood. Large rooms suit lighter colours so choosing a deep tone would work best on one accent wall.

If you love the idea of the mustard trend but don’t want to fully decorate a room, there are easier ways to get the look at home with minimal effort. A bold, solid mustard cushion against a mix of floral patterns will create a unique and fashionable look in a living room or bedroom. Invest in a beautiful abstract canvas that holds a hint of mustard to give the desired effect. I’ve selected a unique array of soft furnishing and décor incorporating this trend, from the latest and most-fashionable home brands, some you will have heard of, others you’ll thank me later for sharing.

Zada and Tavan
Megachef takes The Stage
The first Turkish restaurant selected for the 2017 and 2018 Michelin Guide celebrates with the opening of its sister restaurant in Peterborough.
New head chef, Sam Sharman, who grew up in the area, but spent many years traveling the world in the Royal Navy, has plans for The Stage in Market Deeping that are as big and as bold as the flavour in his dishes.
Tavan specialise in homemade Morrocan and Turkish Cuisine with a twist, so customers from Zada in Stamford can visit and try something different. Entertaining is fundamental to Turkish culture; Middle Eastern families pride themselves on hospitality and worth is measured according to how well guests are treated. PSam has a unique take on classic dishes and has also introduced an exciting new winter menu. Not only are the dishes presented beautifully but they are all packed with flavour, and perfectly seasoned; Sam’s attention to technique is apparent in each dish, like the 14hr pork belly confit in duck fat, compressed to produce perfectly crisp crackling and meat that is succulent and; or the lamb and heritage carrots pan-cooked in clarified butter, which imparts a rich, nutty flavour, then finished in garlic and rosemary butter, and served with a sweet, nutmeg-infused carrot puree; or the wild boar ravioli starter served with a sticky, intense bone marrow infused sauce that’s two days in the making.

Fine dining genius
Andrew Corrick, Chef Patron at The Cherry House.
Growing up in the sleepy seaside town of Sidmouth, Andrew was inspired to cook by his elder brothers, who both worked – partly out of choosing, partly because ‘there was nothing else to do’ – as chefs at a local hotel. Starting as a pot washer in the hotel kitchen, Andrew took great interest in what was going on around him and went on to complete his chef training in Exeter, before moving east to Bournemouth to work at The Carlton Hotel, which at the time, was the only 5-star privately-owned hotel in Europe. Just 18 months later, at the time when nouvelle cuisine was the height of British gastronomy, Andrew made the move to London – a must for any chef with ambition at the time. Andrew working at some of the capital’s most prestigious addresses, with a four-year stint at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, and two years as Head Chef at the Park Lane Hotel under his belt.
Personal ties eventually brought Andrew to Peterborough, where out of curiosity he had applied for the position of Head Chef at The Swallow Hotel (now The Marriott); he got the job, and with the manager’s backing was allowed free rein in the kitchen, gaining an AA rosette for the hotel, but perhaps more importantly, an insight for Andrew into the tastes of local diners, which at the time were quite different to those he had catered for in London, proving invaluable when it came to opening The Cherry House in 1994. The Cherry House is a charming Gradell listed thatch cottage of historical importance, having been the hideout for Sir Oliver Cromwell as he developed his plot to overthrow King Charles l. The romance of the cottage’s history and Andrew’s determination to give customers a true fine dining experience has won over a base of regular clientele; the prix fixe menu (three courses for £27.95) celebrates local seasonal produce, cooked well and presented simply – a formula that will never go out of fashion.

It’s no mean feat to run a successful restaurant, so when Andrew Corrick, Chef Patron at The Cherry House, recently celebrated 23 years in business, he had every right to blow his own trumpet, choosing instead to say that time had flown by and the experience had been very rewarding – humble words from the man who brought fine dining to Peterborough.

Perfect pubs
Words and pictures by Jenny Garford – The Stamford Foodie
When the days draw in and the temperature drops, I crave warming, hearty fare. Here’s my choice of pubs in the area that hit the winter spot.
The Tobie Norris
The Bell Inn
The Crown Inn
The Bluebell Inn
The Tobie Norris is one of Stamford’s most popular pubs; its warren of quirky rooms with uneven floors, gnarled beams and open fires are full of character, and the menu of hearty, traditional fare will satisfy the largest of appetites. Roasted baby chicken in a box with all the trimmings (£16.95), braised shin of Lincoln Red Beef with fondant potato (£15.95), game and ale pie with bubble and squeak (£14.95) and mature cheddar and parmesan mac and cheese with pulled pork (£13.95) are but a few of the tasty plates on offer. There’s also a well-loved pizza menu, with a special offer of two pizzas and a bottle of house wine for £24.95 every day between 6 and 7pm.
The Bell Inn, Stilton, has fed and watered many during its 400year history, and today’s diners will certainly not go hungry with award-winning fare served in the Galleried Restaurant and less formal bistro and bar areas. Sit beneath century old beams or next to a roaring fire and indulge in dishes that will make your soul sing; maybe chicken liver parfait and toasted brioche with fig, date and apple chutney to start (£7.90); followed by venison loin with juniper berries, mashed potato and truffle (£20), or roasted lamb rump, sauerkraut and gnocchi (£18). Finish with the pear and almond tart with plum and elderflower jam, clotted cream and Earl Great creme anglaise, or the chocolate delice, marsala ice cream, orange crumb and coffee gel (both £6) and that’s before we’ve even started on the celebrated Stilton cheese…
Sat under the shelter of a towering horse chestnut, this charming chocolate box thatch has serious curb appeal. Inside you’ll be warmly welcomed by the Lamb family, and a roaring fire; settle in with a glass of carefully selected wine or beer and maybe nibble on a homemade Scotch egg (£3.95) while you wait. Starters include a caramelized onion and glazed goats cheese tart with fresh figs and raspberry vinaigrette (£5.95), or Cromer crab and smoked salmon cocktail served with locally baked bread (£6.50). Traditional moules marinere with crusty baguette can be enjoyed as both starter or main (£6.95/£12.95), or maybe you’ll opt for the free range belly pork with crispy bacon hash browns, apple puree and cider sauce (£14.95); or Barbary duck breast with sautéed new potatoes, butternut squash, savoy cabbage and a port and cherry jus (£18.95). Finish with an indulgent dark chocolate fondant with salted caramel ice cream and biscotti (£6.50).
Located at the heart of the pretty village of Helpston, and just a stones throw from both Peterborough and Stamford, this charming 17th century inn boasts that poet John Clare worked here as a pot boy some 200 years ago! With a warm, inviting atmosphere, The Bluebell Inn promises comforting pub nosh in a traditional setting.

Start with freshly made soup of the day (£5.50) or breaded whitebait with tartare sauce (£5), followed by Willowbrook Farm lamb’s liver and bacon (£11) or a trio of Lincolnshire sausages (£11.50) served with creamy mashed potato, onion gravy and greens, or perhaps the succulent pork belly with mustard mash, roasted apple and black pudding gravy (£14) from the specials menu, finishing off with an indulgent sticky toffee pudding with fudge sauce (£6). Vegans can also tuck into an appetising sweet potato and chickpea curry, served with rice and naan bread (£11).

The George & Dragon Snug country pub with an industrial twist. The beautifully refurbished George and Dragon pub at Seaton is the ambitious new venture from Ralph Offer, formerly of the Stamford Wine Bar. This quintessentially English village pub has undergone a complete transformation, with three months of hard work creating an interior that is best described as snug country pub with an industrial twist – think bare brick and luxurious tweed, enhanced with thoroughly modern metal accents such as the spiderweb light fitting which illuminates the main bar. The downstairs area has been extended to include a welcoming sitting room completed with cosy armchairs and a piano – the perfect place to while away an evening with a good bottle of wine. Ralph has put his wine knowledge to good use, creating a comprehensive drinks list including more than 30 wines, as well as a selection of local ales, lager and spirits that ensures there is something for every taste. Upstairs, luxury awaits in the form of three individually themed guest bedrooms; Pheasant, Stag and Hare. Each has its own unique, elegant look, which is co-ordinated down to the last mug and towel, and complemented by extra luxuries such as Moulton Brown toiletries. One thing that the rooms all have in common are stunning views over the picturesque Rutland village of Seaton, with the village church and rolling hills beyond creating a perfect panorama to wake up to in the morning.
However, the main attraction is the new fine dining menu, masterminded by chef Omar Palazzolo. After 17 years honing his skills in some of London’s best kitchens, including Nobu and Tom’s Kitchen, Omar has big plans for his own menu at the George and Dragon. He describes his take on food as ‘purist’, with a focus on simple flavours and quality, locally sourced ingredients that offer both great taste and nutrition for the body and soul. Expect a creative, ever-changing selection of dishes with influences from many of the cuisines that Omar loves, from modern Italian to Japanese. The George and Dragon is undoubtedly the perfect country destination for anyone looking for a great meal, a warm reception and a good drink. Ralph looks forward to welcoming you through the door.

In the autumn of 2016 the restaurant of The Old Bridge at Huntingdon underwent a complete change. The aim was to make it less formal, more relaxed and more contemporary, but to retain the feel of a 'very special' restaurant, the place in the Huntingdon area where so many people come to celebrate important moments in their life. The food & service follow that style. Good, seasonal ingredients, simply yet perfectly cooked, served without fuss, but with a smile. The pictures speak for themselves. This is now an even more welcoming and exciting place to visit. For those who haven't been, go and see it for yourselves. You will not be disappointed.

food and naturally sweet tomato sauce – just enough to coat the dish, letting the pasta speak for itself. Il Vicolo also serves authentic Italian pizzas made with fresh dough, topped generously with homemade tomato sauce, buffalo mozzarella and other toppings, then cooked quickly in a traditional wood-burning pizza oven, resulting in a light, crispy base, with an oozing, molten-cheese finish. All can be accompanied by a selection of fantastic Italian wines, available both by the glass and bottle, and the informed waiting staff is on hand to suggest the perfect match for your chosen dish.
With dishes inspired by Mimmo’s childhood as a fisherman’s son in Marches, Il Vicolo delivers a traditional and authentic taste of Italy, guaranteed to evoke memories of travels to the stunning Adriatic coast. Mimmo has a love for the food from home and wants to share the beauty – the simplicity – of Italian cuisine with his diners, taking fantastic quality ingredients and cooking them with minimal fuss.
Il Vicolo is a great restaurant for fresh, vibrant, flavourful dishes, served by an incredibly welcoming, chatty team who cannot do enough for you. A great find!
Mimmo’s seafood dishes are a triumph; prawns cooked to perfection, dense and succulent salmon fillet served with a creamy garlic, wine and peppercorn sauce (£16.50), or a simple dish of linguini alla fruitti mare (£15.85), laden with beautifully cooked sea-

Lose yourself in Stamford’s labyrinth of historic lanes and you may be lucky enough to stumble upon Il Vicolo, a fine Italian restaurant that has won over the hearts and appetites of local foodies. Discreetly sign written, it would be easy to walk by Il Vicolo were it not for the mouthwatering aroma of sautéed garlic and the glimpse of diners sat on red baroque chairs.

Hidden treasures Jenny Garford stumbles on some fabulous country pubs a little further afield.
The Three Horseshoes The Three Horseshoes is an elegantly styled thatch-roofed cottage serving seasonal dishes, with influences from the Mediterranean, and it also happens to have been named Cambridgeshire Dining Pub of the Year 2018 by The Good Pub Guide. Enjoy salt cod croquettes (£4.95), bruschetta with Norfolk crab and cucumber (£9) or braised pork cheeks in port and honey (£8.50), followed by slow-cooked venison shoulder with potato puree and caramelised shallots (£19.50) finishing with a tonka bean panna cotta with clementines in Cointreau (£6.95). Whatever you eat the wine will be wonderfully matched thanks to Master of Wine (and owner) John Hoskins.

The Fox & Hounds This handsome, ivy-clad pub in Knossington is small and cosy but full of warmth and character. With a relaxed, traditional pub feel, it’s a great place to pop in for a pint or bite to eat after a day at nearby Rutland Water, and the menu of rich classic dishes will sing to the hearts of weary ramblers and foodies alike; starters like the decadent Coquille St Jacques (£11.95) and parmesan and chive twice baked souffle (£7.95) set the tone for a indulgent meal, followed by venison fillet with smooth-as-silk parsnip puree, crispy straw potatoes and a deep, rich blackberry port sauce (£23.50), perhaps finishing with the a very festive feeling spiced orange, sultana and brandy bread and butter pudding served with Belgian chocolate custard (£6.50)!

The Pigs Just 20 minutes from the North Norfolk coastline and a short drive from Holt, this porcinethemed country pub takes food seriously, following the nose to tail philosophy, serving long forgotten cuts of meat in a creative and gutsy fashion. This is hearty British cuisine at its best, with pork dishes at the heart of the menu. Try the brawn pease pudding (£8.50), slow-cooked pork belly served with smokey bacon beans, apple chutney and black pudding (£14.50), or the pork t-bone to share, with chips, chicory, smoked bacon, chestnuts and baked apple (£32). The Pigs is also home to Iffits – Norfolk’s answer to tapas – delightful little dishes served as starters, sharers or as a main – think ham hock scotch egg, smoked haddock Dapple cheese sauce, whitebait with seaweed mayo, popcorn cockles and potted Cromer crab – delicious!

Simon Penson
Where do you see the likes of Gravitas magazine heading in an ever-increasing digital world?
You were the youngest-ever national magazine editor in the UK with titles such as Max Power. How did that come about?
Rather than being a ‘subject specialist’ you focus on creating and growing ‘specialist audiences of value.’ Can you explain that?
It’s a very interesting time for print and something I am still passionate about having started my career in the industry working as an editor and journalist. I think nowadays to be successful in print you’ve got to be niche – often within the hobbyist world or you’ve got to be hyper-local and do a really good job at it. The exciting thing about Gravitas is your doing the latter very well, particularly how you tie it all in with your social platforms.
I didn’t go to university because I always knew what I wanted to do and that was to become a journalist, so I took the vocational route and ended up working for Johnson Press prior to moving to Emap. At the time Max Power was going through a difficult period – very much a youth title around the same time Zoo and Nuts were about so I was given the challenge of reinventing the magazine.
What we really do is to concentrate on finding a way to create an audience for a brand because that is the only real thing of value to a brand. The only way to create that audience is to use content, irrespective of what channel it’s delivered from content will always be the heart of it.

You can achieve anything you want to achieve; however, you must be willing to work harder than anybody else to get there.
You created one of the UK’s first purely content-led digital marketing agencies, Zazzle Media in 2009. Tell us how you grew it so quickly to £3m in turnover. In truth, it didn’t grow that quickly. When we started not everybody understood and were reluctant to invest in content from a marketing perspective. It was the growth of social media and the maturing digital landscape that led to an18-month period of rapid growth from 10 to 30 staff.
Zazzle Media was acquired in 2016 and you continue to work in the business – tell us about this. We were acquired by IPG, the fourth biggest advertising network in the world. There are half a dozen holding companies that own lots of smaller agencies that together will own the contracts for the likes of Coca-Cola and Nike for example. As an independent agency it’s very difficult to win those types of contracts and I want our team to have the opportunity to showcase their work to the biggest audiences on Earth, who are owned by the biggest brands on Earth.
Do you have a favourite motivational quote? I’d say it’s more of a principal really than a quote, but you can achieve anything you want to achieve, however, you must be willing to work harder than anybody else to get there.
How do you see Zazzle’s involvement in nurturing local talent within your industry? This is my greatest passion now; the working environment is changing. There are roles now that just didn’t exist five years ago, so it presents a digital skills shortage as the education system hasn’t been able to catch up. What we really want to do is to start working with the local schools and colleges to try and get this message out there to their student pools.
What has been your biggest mistake/lesson in business? Too many to list, however, probably the most important lesson after so many hiring errors
was to introduce a company culture and vision statements so that every new ‘Zazzler’ knows exactly what it takes to join the team here. We now hire with more emphasis on the people that fit our culture than those with the necessary skill set.
How do you like to unwind? I like to spend time with my family, keeping fit, golf and I’m a huge petrol head.
What’s next for Simon Penson? I’m passionate about making Zazzle become the behemoth that it has the potential to be. We’re currently working on building new premises of our own in Market Deeping, and then we’ll create a plan to grow from 54 to 100 Zazzlers.

That Will do
Why estate planning and reviewing your Will is important. By Marie Craig, Audit & Accounts Manager at Rawlinsons
A common misconception is that without a Will an estate passes to the surviving spouse. Depending on the size of your estate, this may not happen. Making a Will is not difficult, and with the correct advice can prevent unnecessary Inheritance Tax being paid on death. You need to consider your assets and who you wish to benefit when you die. If you have children under the age of 18 you should also consider who should be guardians.
Death allowance
Currently, the nil-rate band on death for an individual is £325,000. For deaths in the 2017-2018 tax year, the maximum additional residence nil rate band will be £100,000, rising to £175,000 by 2020-2021. As people get older and downsize to a smaller property, they should not be disadvantaged. If the individual dies after 6 April 2017, and the downsizing occurred after 8 July 2015, the higher value property still applies.
Where an estate has a net value of £2m, the residence nil-rate band will be tapered to zero; in monetary terms this means for every £2 over the £2m cap, £1 will be deducted from the band available. If the estate has a value of £2.35m (or £2.7m for a married couple), there is no residence nil-rate band. To qualify the residence must have been lived in by the deceased at some stage. It does not have to be their main residence but it applies to only one residential property.
Complex legislation The complexity surrounding this new legislation means that reviewing your Will and estate planning is essential. In addition to a Will, it is advisable to have a Lasting Power of Attorney. This is a legal document which lets you chose trusted people (attorneys) to make financial and/or health and welfare decisions on your behalf, should you be unable to do so.

Making a Will is not difficult, and with the correct advice can prevent unnecessary Inheritance Tax being paid on death.
}
The Government introduced a new nil-rate band from 6 April 2017, which applies when the family home is passed down directly to a descendant on death. Descendants are defined as children, stepchildren, foster children, adopted children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The residence nil-rate band is transferable on death between spouses. For a couple (married or civil partners), this could result in a joint total nil-rate band of £1m; £650,000 nil rate band and £350,000 residence nil rate band.
}
A Will is the only way to ensure those that you would wish to benefit on your death actually do so. If you have dependant relatives it is particularly vital.

Belief in all that’s possible There was once a young boy, just 15 years old, who was expelled from school. He didn’t think there was much good in store for him, and yet, there was something deep inside him that refused to give up. It was the belief that he could be something great. Self-belief isn’t an all-or-nothing proposition. It isn’t something you’re born with, or something you’re forever without. It’s more like a muscle; something you’ve got to build, grow, reinforce and nurture. It’s not for the quitter, or the faint of heart or the person who recognises limits. How do I know? Because I was that 15-yearold kid; a kid who couldn’t take no for answer, who had no respect for authority. I blew so many chances I lost count. And yet, something inside me wouldn’t let me quit. I went on to start my own business, win BBC1’s The Apprentice, partner with TV’s most famous billionaire and build a multimillion pound brand. Now, I want to inspire people to develop their own self-belief and accomplish everything they’re capable of with my new book, Expelled from the Classroom to Billionaire Boardroom. Let’s make 2018 the best year ever Now the craziness of Christmas has died down and you’re busy preparing for the next trading year, it’s worthwhile taking a moment to stop and reflect on what 2017 brought you and your business. • How did your business perform? • What impact did your team have on this performance? • Do you have the right people in your business? • What aspirations do you have for your business in 2018? • Do you have the right framework and processes in place to confidently manage performance, increase productivity and profit? Research completed over the last 20 years, clearly evidences businesses with a robust framework and set processes, perform better against comparable businesses. Surely this can only be a good thing? To achieve your businesses full potential, a basic framework starts with reviewing existing employment contracts to ensure they meet requirements and are still fit for purpose. The next is to provide an Employee Handbook that details everything required by law as well as your expectations and how performance will be managed both positively as well as constructively. Would you like to see less staff pulling a sickie? Less performance issues for you to deal with? A more motivated and engaged team working together to give the best service possible? Probate and estate administration – we can help you When a loved one dies it can be a deeply distressing and emotional time for their family and friends. Added to this, is the pressure of having to sort out the financial affairs of the deceased. If you have been appointed as an executor of an estate, or a close family member dies without having made a Will, we can help. Rawlinsons is licensed to provide probate and estate administration services. Furthermore, we were one of the first accountancy firms in Peterborough to be able to do so. There are certain protocols that need to be carried out upon someone’s death. Probate and estate administration is just one of these, but also the most complex as it requires you to file legal, financial and taxation information about the deceased’s estate. However, we can ease this burden for you, even if the deceased used a different accountant. Should you or your family require assistance with probate, we would be happy to discuss what’s involved and give you an indication of our costs. We believe that our pricing is very competitive when compared to other professional institutions that offer a similar service. For more information about our probate and other related services, please contact us. Julie Bloodworth, Rawlinsons at julie.bloodworth@rawlinsons.co.uk

Raising funds for Peterborough Sings!
Mums doing it for themselves
Communication with your estate agent is During October we hosted our annual charity race night in support of a local music education charity and smashed previous records with the amount raised!
In April 2016, research by the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed (IPSE) found that 17% of all freelancers are mothers. This figure has increased by 70% since 2008 as more women are seeing self-employment as the best option for balancing work with the needs of their families.
Guests enjoyed a fish and chip supper and were entertained by a magician throughout the evening, as well having the opportunity to bet on and buy virtual horses. There was a terrific atmosphere and fantastic delivery by the Woodcock Holmes team. The enormous generosity of the guests resulted in an unprecedented £6,000 being raised for Peterborough Sings! The money raised will be used to continue the work of Peterborough Sings! which aims to make singing inclusive and accessible to everyone regardless of age, social background or previous experience. The charity supports three award-winning choirs Peterborough Male Voice Choir, Peterborough Voices and Peterborough Youth Choir as well as delivering the Peterborough singing strategy in local primary schools and the innovative Boys’ Voices project which aims to engage difficult to reach boys in inner city schools. We have the best team! Our amazing people have worked tirelessly, giving up their time to plan and organise our annual charity race night. A special thank you to everyone who sponsored, donated and enjoyed the evening. We’re thrilled with the final total – it’s amazing how generous people can be! Networking gives you the chance to connect with this community, to reach out to other female entrepreneurs who ‘get it’, who know exactly what it’s like to run a business around a family. There’s something so reassuring about talking to another mum who’s spent the day typing emails on her smartphone with one hand while she cuddles a poorly toddler with the other. Suddenly, challenges seem easier to overcome when you realise you’re not the only one facing them. I also love chatting to women who have slightly older children than mine because they have the benefit of hindsight and I can see that they’ve come through my stage in the journey relatively unscathed! Have you ever noticed that the path is always easier to travel when you know someone else has already walked it? How do you feel about networking? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences. jo@theuniquemumpreneur.com Join my community of Mumpreneurs at theuniquemumpreneur.com

Know – Trust – Refer Referral networking is an effective, lead-generating business ideal.
Connect Business Networking rebranded in October, and is one of Peterborough’s most established networking groups. With high levels of energy and enthusiasm and more than half a million pounds of business being referred between members and guests it’s definitely worth attending. Jason and Tracey Yearwood from We Shrink Bills head up the group with assistance from, Nicki Mawby from HR Your Business Matters and James Dawson from Wilson & Co Homes. Be assured that you will receive a warm, friendly welcome when attending and will have the opportunity to connect with around 40 other businesses and individuals in the room. They work on the principals of KNOW, TRUST and REFER – the theory being you will get to know the member, trust them and then be able to refer their business. Referral networking is a very effective and low-cost way of generating new leads for your business. At Connect Business Networking you will have the opportunity to meet new business contacts, clients, suppliers and customers; and promote your services and products. It will allow
you to meet owners and decision-makers from other businesses; gain knowledge and expertise from one another while exchanging business leads and referrals. The group currently meets fortnightly at the Holiday Inn in Thorpe Wood on Thursday mornings between 7:30 and 9:30am. Due to the success of this group there has been a demand from members and guests for a lunchtime meeting. This is launching on 8 December at 12:30pm and will also be held at the Holiday Inn. For the benefit of members, once you or your business is registered as a member with Connect Business Networking you receive exclusivity to your sector. Connect also has the largest social media presence as a networking group in Peterborough with more than 3,000 connections across all platforms. It can be found on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn with the handle @connectpboro

Focus on finance
The first step to financial freedom is being in control and then remaining in control. In previous issues I covered Retirement Planning, and The clocks have gone back, and the dark nights and winter months are upon us. Away from the doom and gloom we have the awaited festive family time of the year to look forward to. As everyone starts preparing for Christmas and New Year, focus your attention just a little on what you have and haven’t done this year with regards to your finances. Use this moment to reflect on what is still on your ‘to do list’ as 2018 draws closer. Are your investments performing as best they can? Do you still want to get those pension plans looked at by a professional? Are you retiring soon, and thinking about drawing on a pension? It can take anything up to six months to get the right retirement plan and income set up. At Brooks Wealth we offer a Wealth Management Service for all ages and stages. We are an independent advice service, which means we have access to a wider range of products and providers. This means we can find the best possible solution to suit your needs and circumstances. We continue to offer a no-fee, no-obligation initial meeting, which entails gathering soft and hard facts on you, your family and your existing arrangements and, most importantly, where you want to be in the short, medium and long term. Our advice ranges from, and is not limited to, Retirement Planning, Protection Planning, Investments and Savings and Taxation. We cover both personal and corporate needs.
Areas to consider over the festive holidays Retirement Planning
Planning for the later years of life. Preparing for retirement can be daunting and the decisions you make could have a long-lasting impact. With the developments of medicine and positive lifestyle changes, life expectancy is on the rise meaning people must fund approximately 20 years living after retirement. If you don’t currently have the funds in place
to support the retirement you had hoped for you have the options to pay more into your pensions now, work longer or change plans to more achievable goals. Keep your retirement plans in check and build on this over your working years. An IFA can help you create and manage a portfolio, or plan for decumulation if you are ready to retire. With so many options on taking an income it is a sensible choice to seek independent advice and have your options explained and the impact of these on your personal circumstances.
Protection
Protecting you and loved ones with financial support during difficult times. We never know what’s around the corner and it’s important to consider the risks and be prepared if things don’t go to plan. Taking out insurance is perhaps the most effective way to secure yourself financially. The role of an IFA is to question your steps towards minimising any negative financial impact on the family due to accident, illness or death. This market has grown significantly and now offers products to suit all needs and budgets. Questions may be Whole of Life assurance or Term insurance? Level or decreasing? Have your circumstances changed? Are you possibly under or over insured? Is it time to review your plan? Seek advice and get the options explained in a clear and easy-to-understand way.
Why choose Brooks Wealth
We treat every client as an individual and tailor their journey with financial professionalism and a leading personal service. With a no-fee, no-obligation initial consultation on offer you can’t go wrong. The first step to financial freedom is being in control and then remaining in control either yourself or with the assistance of an adviser.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year – Sharon

Understanding the life cycle of a business Walking hand in hand with our clients, mold Your business is constantly changing, with the passage of time, huge effort and passion your company will go through various stages of the business life cycle. To focus on the challenges ahead and the resources required for you to succeed in business, it is useful to understand where your business is in the life cycle. The four main stages are:
Start-up
In the early stages of a business, the commercialisation of the ideas is key, and success depends on nuts and bolts issues such as funding, strategic planning and business structure. As a business owner you will have your own goals and objectives that should mesh with the goals of the organisation, so that they work together to develop a robust and sustainable business plan.
Growth
The fastest growing businesses tend to be those that are not afraid to innovate and whose employees feel empowered in their roles. Your business has endured through the initial stages and is in the growth stage, generating revenue and incurring costs. As your business grows you will face challenges and will need to make difficult decisions. As advisers to growing businesses we keep our clients energised and focussed, acting as a sounding board for the business owner to find solutions that work for them. There are more demands requiring the attention of the business owner and at this stage it can feel as though your time is being even more stretched. To maintain the growth and a competitive edge, you will need to plan and implement change; whether that is research for new product development or exploring new markets, hiring people with complementary skills so that you can do what you are best at, the business and leading the company. People are a key consideration at the growth stage and you will want to nurture and retain talent. It will be key to recruit well, matching skill sets and making the most of the potential of the people. As the business owner you will need your team to take over a great deal of the responsibilities that were previously under your control and you may need to choose the most appropriate reward incentives for key employees and the business. Some of the key considerations for growing businesses are: 1. What is your growth strategy and is the structure of the business adequate to cope with the strategy being taken forward? 2. How will you expand – organically or by acquisition? Have you got the right funding to help with the expansion?
3. Is your key management team motivated and adequately remunerated for potential future events? 4. Do you need outside help and expertise – the make-up of your board and acquiring the right talent? 5. Is your business fit for purpose – has it got the right infrastructure or internal controls in place to cope with growth?
Maturity
As a business reaches maturity, robust processes and benchmarking are needed to meet the demands of shareholders, staff and business partners. It is at this stage that you may consider succession planning, reorganising and restructuring so that the business is fit for the future and further innovation. It is smart to start preparing early for any exit by identifying the requirements of potential buyers or investors, and thinking about what you want.
Exit
Deciding how and when to exit can be a difficult decision for entrepreneurs who have spent years creating ideas, starting a business and building it. Timing is crucial, both from an economic and personal perspective. For family businesses exit may mean succession by the next generation, and standing back to watch others take over may be difficult. We help our clients through all aspects of sale and succession, ensuring that the advice is commercial and beneficial to you in the long term.

Dram dream The Single Cask – a whisky-lover’s fantasy bar. The Single Cask is one of the more enigmatic scenes to have appeared in Stamford this year. A bar that specialises in rare whisky sounds like a dream come true to those who want nothing more than a dram of their favourite single malt to round off an evening, but even the most up-to-date whisky connoisseurs might be surprised by how few of the bottles on display they recognise.
Independent bottler
This is not only because the team behind this unique bar stocks some of the best independently bottled whiskies from around Scotland, but because it is an independent bottler itself. This means it sources the best casks of single malt whisky, hold on to it until the time is right, then bottle the distinctive, once-in-a-lifetime spirit that results. Some of these old barrels can even be found at home in the bar itself.
Recommendations
Fortunately, the staff behind the bar is
more than happy to guide you through the selection. For those who like to peruse a menu there is a heavy book with tasting notes with more than 300 choices; luckily we haven’t needed it yet as Tom and Douglas have a knack for recommending a great whisky with the first glass.
Membership
For anyone looking to take the whisky experience to the next level, The Single Cask has the perfect solution. An exclusive membership programme offers the chance to own a small part of the bar itself, as each member to sign up is given a personal locker in which to keep their favourite bottles for a rainy day. Members also enjoy a generous discount on everything the bar has to offer, as well as invitations to exclusive tasting events. Believe it or not the team still isn’t content with its current collection of rare bottles, working on alterations that will allow them
to keep another few hundred whiskies on display, as well as an additional lounge in the cellar in which to hold tasting evenings. On regular nights this will be a secret, cosy space open exclusively to the members of the growing whisky club. This isn’t one to miss, whether you want to dive into the world of whisky, or simply try the Scotch version of an espresso martini.
Opening hours: 4.30pm to midnight, Tuesday to Saturday 16 St Mary’s Hill, Stamford PE9 2DP 01780 753389 reservations@thesinglecask.co.uk thesinglecask.co.uk Blog whiskyandcocktails.com

That’s entertainment Whether it is pleasure, amusement, relaxation or distraction – Peterborough has something for everyone!
The Broadway – the comedy capital of Cambridgeshire The Broadway is fast becoming the place where comedy stars – both new and established – want to come and entertain. The newly reopened venue, with its main auditorium a faithful restoration betraying its roots as an Odeon cinema from the 1930s, has already regained its place on the humour circuit as somewhere to add to UK tours. For 2018, the sassy and smart Ruby Wax brings her new one-woman show – Frazzled – to The Broadway on 17 April. Based on her number-one bestseller, A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled, she’s been honoured with the title of poster girl for mental illness; once crazy now less so, she gives a tour of the mind – how to use it, not lose it. Ruby, if you don’t know, is a much-loved, American-born, comedy-actor-writer of incredibly successful
books and TV shows, and is also a mental health campaigner. She graduated from Oxford with a Masters in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy three years ago so she should know her stuff. Also just announced is Jon Richardson, best known as a team captain on 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown. He brings his new tour, Old Man, to The Broadway on 21 April. A British Comedy Award nominee, he is embarking on this nationwide tour to complain about the state of the world and offer no solutions.

December sees the next instalment of the Skywalker Star Wars saga. The hype around this is huge, potentially for excellent reason, as the Director, Rian Johnson, has been given the green light by Disney for a new trilogy, set outside of the current nine main films originally set out by George Lucas right back at the beginning with Episode IV: A New Hope in 1977. So, what can we expect? Well, we know that Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) will have a much larger role in this film and will, reluctantly, take back his original lightsabre from Rey (Daisy Ridley). We may see the end of Princess Leia (the late Carrie Fisher) and we will see a huge Giant Walker battle between Snoke’s The First Order and Resistance ski speeders. There will also be a battle between Finn and Captain Phasma. Finally, we will see Snoke in the flesh in some way. If the hype is to be believed, we are in for the best Star Wars film since The Empire Strikes Back. I, for one, am super excited to see it. May The Force Be With Us!
