James Griffiths

Vice President of Nautical & Technical Ocean Nationality: English

With qualifications from the Warsash Maritime Academy (part of Southampton University), Middlesex University, the Nautical Institute in London and Lloyds Maritime Academy in Kent, James Griffiths has a celebrated career spanning 20 years. He holds an advanced polar water certification and has accumulated hundreds of days in high polar latitudes in the north and south, working on 12 different ships, commanding six of them, and visiting over 105 countries.

“I’ve worked as captain on the world’s largest four masted sailing ship, but Scenic Eclipse is setting a new standard in the industry. The first cruise ship to hold helicopters and a submarine, she is just as at home moored alongside superyachts in Monaco, as she is breaking ice less than 900 kilometres from the true North Pole.”

Our team of passionate and enthusiastic experts ensure guests can truly immerse themselves into the destinations they visit. Our Captains and crew are the finest professionals in their field, selected for their experience, expertise and ability to safely navigate the ship in all climates and conditions. During a voyage, guests will have an opportunity to interact with the Captain in a number of ways, including taking advantage of the open bridge policy. Our butlers take pride in looking after guests, ensuring they have every chance to relax. From unpacking luggage and helping guests select from the pillow menu to stocking the mini-bar each day, bringing morning coffee and making dinner and spa treatment reservations, they will provide a discreet yet trusted and friendly presence throughout every voyage, offering complete peace of mind.

Spa Team

Stepping into Senses Spa, brings an immediate sense of calm and tranquillity, not only due to the scented aromas of essential oils, the thoughtful lighting and design, but also the warm greeting by our expert Senses Spa practitioners. The Spa team is headed by Raj Dhariwal who oversees spa operations and staff – and Scenic’s partnership with ESPA, an internationally recognized spa provider offering luxurious pampering treatments#

Culinary Team

The culinary team of over 38 chefs from 15 countries is headed by our Director of Food & Beverage, Tom Göetter. Tom ensures every dining experience on Scenic Eclipse is a multi-cultural epicurean journey of the highest standards and personally oversees the menu development. A highlight for many guests is the Chefs Table @ Elements experience, a by invitation-only evening featuring an 11-course dégustation matched to fine wines.
