Scenic Eclipse Cherish the Planet
Our Commitment to a Sustainable Future
At Scenic, we aim to reduce our environmental impact and help to build a more sustainable way of living and doing business. Your journey with us will be one with a difference, respecting the natural ecosystems and local communities that call each region home.
In a commitment to providing a cleaner, greener, safer river cruising experience, we’re transforming the way we travel by implementing environmentally conscious initiatives both on board and onshore. We believe that this care for the environment, this desire to preserve the Earth, is a deeper underlying value of what we do and what we, as a company, stand for. It is at the core of who we are.
Scenic Eclipse was designed and built to meet or exceed all current and expected environment standards.
The vessel is equipped with the latest technology and is managed in accordance with best practice ensuring all processes have minimal environmental impact. Scenic Eclipse is certified Polar Class 6-designed and built to the latest uncompromising standards for ships operating in polar waters.
Key Highlights:
On board Scenic Eclipse we have eliminated the use of all single-use plastic and replaced them with sustainable alternatives. Each suite will come with a water bottle per guest, for use on excursions and to take home. We’ve swapped our washing detergents for eco-friendly variations to restrict our use of harmful chemicals, pollutants, and toxins
In a steadfast commitment to reducing kitchen waste, our main courses will be served from the galley and a food shredder has been installed to compact any left-over food waste.
The advanced Azipod propulsion system minimizes noise and vibration to reduce disturbance to marine life, as well as improving manoeuvrability and reducing fuel consumption. GPS Dynamic Positioning allows the ship to maintain position without the use of an anchor, thus protecting the sea floor. Wastewater is treated using a membrane biological reactor before being discharged.
Advanced HVAC System extracts external air to treat and filter before it is delivered through the ship then extracted with no recirculation.
The lightest grade of marine fuel is used on board, reducing sulphur emissions by up to 95%.
Where available and feasible, the ship is equipped to plug into onshore power networks which allows it to primarily run off the electrical grid and not generators, which reduces emissions.
Fun Fact
We’re using 97% less sulphur vs heavy fuel oils by using the lowest sulphur grade fuel on all vessels where possible.
