Summer Challenge There’s still a chill in the air, but summer will soon sweep in and make way for the Library’s annual Summer Challenge! Reading, activities and special programs will again be included in this fun, all-ages event. Sign up begins Saturday, June 2 with a Summer Challenge Kick-off from 2:30-5:30 p.m. at the Central Library. Bring friends and family to this fun event and enjoy crafts and live music. (See page 3 for details.) You’re invited to sign up at any of our Library locations in Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park, or online at SchaumburgLibrary.org/read. One of last year’s top readers, Sethulekshmi Priyendu, said she particularly enjoyed reading Say No to Joe, by Lori Foster, and the In Death series by J.D. Robb, as well as engaging in activities with her children. Fourth grader Sreejith Mylavarapu had fun reading books he’s never read before, including Squish, Pokemon and Amulet books. Through an adventure-themed storyline and interactive iPad content, Thinking Money explores themes like wants vs. needs, preparing for a rainy day, imagining your future self and avoiding financial fraud. Thinking Money was created by the American Library Association (ALA) in partnership with the FINRA Investor Education Foundation.

See how rain affects pollutants with the interactive Watershed Model, create power with the Energy Bike, build a birdhouse or meet the Tomato Lady. This event will also include special collections for recyclables, so bring in your unwanted keys, cell phones and eyeglasses to the fair. The collections will take place only for the day of the Environmental Fair.
