STUDENT ADVISORY TRUSTEES

We have a unique opportunity for 15-18 year olds to have their voices heard while serving on the Library Board as the Student Advisory Trustee (SAT).

The SAT is a non-voting position that participates in Library discussions about teen programs and resources. During the school year, the SAT will act as an informal liaison between D211 high schools and the Schaumburg Library, sharing information with both school and Library contacts about upcoming programs and resources.

We had a chance to ask some of our past SATs what this position meant to them:

Jamie Louise Caracas (SAT Winter 2022 –Winter 2023) “One of the most significant lessons I’ve learned is the immense potential for building strong community bonds. Inspired by the diverse programs offered by our library, which aim to create a safe and inclusive space for all age groups, I felt compelled to take action.

Muhammad Mannan Arshad (SAT Summer 2022 – Summer 2024): “I learned how important it is to be informed. The Library is an amazing resource and there are loads of

students that can benefit from its programs... Being an SAT exposed me to a bunch of new services and programs that I wasn’t aware of before.”

Shivani Patel (SAT Winter 2024 – Present) “I learned about what happens behind the scenes of the library. There are so many amazing people that are working hard to make this library the best experience for you. I’ll always be grateful for the library and the staff that make it work.”

Applications for our Fall 2024 SAT position will be posted in mid-August. If you are interested in learning more about the position, visit https://www.schaumburglibrary.org/studenttrustees.
