The Library offers a plethora of opportunities for teens, and one we’re always excited about is our Teen Mentor positions. In the past, we’ve had teen mentors help run programs such as Coding Club for Girls, Tech Bytes and MakerSpace. We’re super excited to welcome our newest Teen Mentor Chase as our Teen Music Mentor! Chase joined the Library as a mentor a few months ago, but he has been an avid user for years. We asked Chase a few questions to get to know him better! In your words, what is your role as a Teen Music Mentor? My role as the Teen Music Mentor is to help the teens in the Teen Record Label program publish music on Spotify, iTunes and any other music streaming service! I’ll help answer any questions they have about producing music, writing lyrics and making instrumental tracks. When they’re ready to publish, I can assist them in sending the tracks to all the streaming services available! What’s your favorite part of being the Teen Music Mentor? When I get to hear one of the teens’ tracks -
when they’re finished laying down the base for it, and then hearing it again when they have completed the song. I like seeing the journey from the start of the song to the finished product! How did you begin your journey in working with music? I started my journey in working with music four years ago during the pandemic. I participated in the online Teen Music Production program through Schaumburg Library and have stuck with it ever since! How do you plan to continue working with music in the future? I want to eventually learn guitar and will continue assisting teens in publishing their music!
