Where is the temporary teen space?

The temporary teen space is in the new Local History Room, located in the back (northeast) corner next to the new study rooms.

What will be available in the temporary teen space?

You will have access to the MakerTable, Supplies Cart, laptop computers and staff who are happy to answer any questions.

Where can I find the teen collection?

The teen collection is located upstairs to the left. If you ever need help finding a book or are looking for a recommendation, stop by the temporary teen desk in the Local History Room.

Will there still be teen programs?

Yes! We are still offering teen programs, however, they will be in various locations in the Central and Branch Libraries. I want to come in to study but the rooms are all filled. What now?

There will be limited access to study rooms during the first part of Phase 2. However, you can book a study room online one week in advance. There is new additional seating on the second floor, too.

GET TO KNOW YOUR TEEN STAFF

What is a unique fact about yourself?

How long have you been working at the Schaumburg Library? In the teen department?

I have worked at Schaumburg Library for ten years, and I have been working in Teen for seven years.

What is your favorite book and/ or game to recommend?

I have a few favorites:

Favorite Teen Book: Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer – A science-fiction/ dystopian novel that is told through journal entries as a teen struggles to hold onto hope when a meteor knocks the moon closer to earth and turns her world upside down.

Favorite Adult Book Series: Mercy Thompson Series by Patricia Briggs – Mercy Thompson is a shapeshifter who is raised by werewolves. Need I say more?

What are some hobbies/ activities you enjoy outside of work?

I really enjoy spending time gardening, walking my dog, Duncan, and traveling!

I trained dogs for 20 years. I competed with my dogs in AKC registered events in Obedience, where a dog and handler are judged as a team, starting with a perfect score and deductions taken off for certain infractions. I was fortunate enough to put titles on all three of my dogs - two of them an OTCh, Obedience Trial Champions!

What is a service within the Library that you want more teens to know about?

I wish more teens knew about the free online learning services available to them through the Library: free online tutoring with Brainfuse HelpNow; learn technology and career skills with LinkedIn Learning; enroll in 6-week courses led by subject experts with Gale Courses; and take lessons in more than 70 different languages with Mango Languages.
