Grant Funds Teen Tech Programs
For a third year, the Library has received the Project Next Generation (PNG) grant to foster technology education in diverse teen populations. We are using the funding to hire teens to teach and provide the equipment needed to host technology programs.
Teen Tech Bytes is a series of coding and computer science programs for younger teens taught by older teens. Advanced high school students are hired to create curriculum based on their D211 computer science education. Middle school students are introduced to coding languages and concepts, learn to build apps, write websites, and create other web-based projects. Teen Tech Bytes was created to give teens a leg up on computer science before they enter high school. Our Teen Makers is another chance for older and knowledgeable teens to share their wisdom and sense of curiosity with the younger teens. The Teen Makers
will host programming utilizing the Library’s 3D printers and laser cutter. Each month, there will be a new STEM project to build in the Teen Place. The Teen Record Label Project is trying to find the next big thing while teaching teens the basics of music creation and audio recording. Participants learn on actual recording equipment from a professional sound engineer. Once teens have finished their creations, we assist in adding them to streaming services. We’re excited to once again receive the PNG grant and provide great tech programming for our community’s teens.

Whether you are researching information for business or politics, writing a paper for school, or just plain interested in the Prairie State, we’ve got books, maps, documents, letters, photos and more to provide the information you seek. (Parents: keep this in mind when your children enter 4th grade. That’s generally the year for studying Illinois.) If it’s just Schaumburg Township that captures your interest, there’s plenty of material on that in our Local History Collection. Together, both the local history and Illinois collections are comprised of nearly 5,000 items. Discover Illinois by visiting the library’s Illinois Collection. All ages are welcome, though we also have children’s books on Illinois in the Youth Services area. As always, if you need help finding a particular item, a reference librarian will be happy to assist you.
