unfamiliar. In this story of family, determination, and happier tomorrows, you’ll gain a clearer understanding of what immigrants face as they leave their homelands behind in hopes of a better life. Dreamers is not only an award-winning story, but has also won awards for its beautiful illustrations created with acrylics and ink. It is our first bi-lingual StoryWalk®!
Dreamers, by Yuyi Morales, is an engaging story about an immigrant mother and child who bring their hopes and dreams to a new land where everything is
Each page of Dreamers will be posted on stands stationed in the park, so you can read the story as you walk.
LOCKERS OFFER NO-TOUCH PICKUP Our lockers have arrived and will be available for use later this month! We know many of you will love this new, no-touch way to pick up materials from the Central Library in Schaumburg. To use the lockers, simply go online and place your Library books or videos on hold, select “Lockers - Central” as pick up location, then come to the Library when you receive an email or call saying your items are ready for pickup. Once you arrive, press the “Get Started” button on the screen, then scan your Library card or type in the number and PIN. You’ll see a list of your requested items. If it’s correct, press “accept” and your locker will open. After retrieving your items, just close the locker door and you’re all set! The lockers are located along the wall near the West entrance.
SKIP THE LINES WITH SELFCHECKOUT If waiting in line is on your “things I hate to do” list, try our new self-checkout machines, which will soon be available. Located in the Central Library lobby, our four self-checkouts are user-friendly, with easy prompts that will allow you to check out in seconds. As long as you have your PIN number and Library card (or Library card number), you can skip the lines and be on your way with your new Library materials in tow.

After more than 40 years of living in Hanover Park, Jim Hargis recently moved to Schaumburg and discovered a new venue for finding non-fiction titles and exploring genealogy. Now a monthly visitor to the Central Library in Schaumburg, he enjoys perusing the history and other non-fiction book stacks on the second floor. Jim relaxes in one of the comfy chairs in the reading area and skims through his selected titles before checking them out. “I think this is one of the best libraries around,” Jim said as he set down his copy of Hanover
17 SCHAUMBURG TOWNSHIP DISTRICT LIBRARY • October 2020
Jim’s passion for history led him to an interest in genealogy, which he pursued using resources on the Library’s website. “I was impressed because the Library gave me access to archives and I could do it from home,” Jim said. “I traced my family back to the Revolutionary War. It was a good learning experience.” Gathering several books to check out, Jim said he’s happy he can still enjoy coming to the Library during the pandemic, adding “all the services, resources, and everybody who works here are to be commended.”
