Homeschooling Resources Homeschool resources have long been part of our Library’s offerings, but with the unprecedented changes brought about by COVID-19, homeschooling materials are in demand more than ever. The Library is ready to accommodate the needs of homeschoolers, e-learners, and those using hybrid models with the following resources. Scholastic Teachables - This online service, available at SchaumburgLibrary.org, provides free educational worksheets, lessons, mini-books and more for children in Pre-K through sixth grade. A Schaumburg Library card is required to sign into this service, which allows access to more than 30,000 resources for students, with 100 more added each month. Johnsburg Public Library Homeschool Resource Center - Located about 30 miles north of Schaumburg, the Johnsburg Public Library has a large array of homeschool curriculum materials, science equipment, supply catalogs, and more. Anyone can use these items while visiting the library; if you have a valid Illinois library card you can check the items out.
Illinois H.O.U.S.E. (Home Oriented Unique Schooling Experience) - Statewide nondenominational network of support groups for people involved in homeschooling. Illinois Christian Home Educators (ICHE) - Information about Illinois state laws and support groups. NATIONAL RESOURCES
Schaumburg H.O.U.S.E. (Home Oriented Unique Schooling) - A local group that facilitates activities, classes, cultural events, and general gatherings to help children make friends and feel part of a larger community. Schaumburg Park District Spring Valley offers hands-on exploration and science-based program for homeschool groups. Computers, Printers & More If you need to use a computer, printer, or fax, the library is happy to accommodate you at the Central location in Schaumburg or our branches in Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park. For health and safety reasons, we’ve limited the number of computers available to ensure appropriate social distancing, and limited use to Schaumburg Library cardholders for two hours a day. (Teen and youth computers are limited to one hour per day.) To book an appointment, click to complete a brief form or call (847) 923-3352. Appointments will be held for 15 minutes before releasing the time slot to any waiting patrons. If you need assistance while using the Library computers, please call (847) 923-3352. We will do our best to assist you over the phone or through remote connection to your computer before approaching your station to ensure appropriate social distancing. As always, free wireless Internet access (wifi) is
available throughout the Library. Just select the network named LIBRARY; no password needed. The Library also has Mobile Hotspots, which allow you to access the internet wherever you need it. These devices allow you to connect up to 10 devices and browse the internet for hours with unlimited data. You may reserve a hotspot online, or from the checkout desks at the Central Library. They are only available to Schaumburg Library cardholders, one per patron, for a 14-day loan. Please don’t return your hotspot through a bookdrop. They must be returned in person. We know that, despite a pandemic and efforts to stay safe and healthy, people still need the use of computers for school, work, and personal use. Feel free to stop by the Library, where our computers and laptops are sanitized and at your service!
