ONE BOOK, ONE COMMUNITY PAGE 1
PRESCHOOL OPEN HOUSE PAGE 2
READ THE BOOK. JOIN THE CONVERSATION. IT’S THAT SIMPLE! ONE BOOK, ONE COMMUNITY IS A TIME FOR US ALL TO READ THE SAME BOOK, SPARKING CONVERSATIONS ABOUT TOPICS THAT MATTER TO OUR COMMUNITY. LEARN MORE AND GET INVOLVED AT SCHAUMBURGLIBRARY.ORG/ONE-BOOK
Join us this winter as we read the instant New York Times bestselling mystery Happiness Falls by Angie Kim. Let’s come together to discuss the book’s themes: human connection, happiness, communication and family dynamics. Full of shocking twists and fascinating questions of love, language and human connection, Happiness Falls follows a family’s desperate search to find their missing father – a search that leads them to question everything they know about him and each other. “This riveting missing-person thriller is really a meditation on happiness that illuminates the power of language and challenges readers’ stereotypes.” - People (Book of the Week) Through powerful storytelling, author Angie Kim turns this missing person story into something wholly original, creating an indelible tale of a family who must go to remarkable lengths to truly understand each other.
EXHIBIT
MEET THE AUTHOR Our One Book, One Community will conclude with a visit from award-winning author Angie Kim at the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts on Sunday, Feb. 25, 1-3 p.m. Join us for a talk and Q&A with the author, followed by a book signing.
BOOKS FOR YOUNG READERS
From Dec. 1 - Feb. 25, our Central Library will host “Happiness by the Numbers.” This original exhibit features community submitted photos and drawings of what makes them happy. It also includes a deep dive into happiness, complete with a chance for you to take the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire to measure your own happiness.
Your whole family can join in! We’ve selected a picture book, a chapter book and a YA novel with themes similar to Happiness Falls, so kids can also be part of the conversation.

HOME DELIVERY DELIGHTS Organizing the Friendship Village Saturday night movie club is no easy feat – just ask Irene Bauer. “It takes a lot of time,” Irene said. “And you can’t please everybody. I learned that a long time ago.” One thing that makes this job a little easier for Irene is our Home Delivery service. Irene lets our outreach team know which movies she’s considering for the club, then we find everything and send it over to Friendship Village for her. “Usually, I go online to find movies for the club, but sometimes the Library makes suggestions, too,” Irene said. “Everything is always very smooth working with the Library. We always have our movies on time. I never worry.” George and Nancy Magerl take advantage of our home delivery services, too. They’ve lived at Friendship Village since 2019 and they always stop by the Pop-Up Library events at Bridgegate. “The delivery service is very easy to use,” George said. “It really works great. I even have something on reserve now – a VHS tape player to watch old tapes for the railroad club.” Our Home Delivery service brings all kinds of items, from books and movies to games and equipment, right to you when you can’t make it to the Library. And it’s not just for seniors. Schaumburg Library cardholders with a temporary or permanent physical disability or visual impairment also qualify, as well as live-in caregivers of individuals who cannot leave their home. Learn more and get signed up for Home Delivery at SchaumburgLibrary.org/home-delivery or call (847) 923-3392. A CONVERSATION WITH BRIDGERTON AUTHOR JULIA QUINN
