I’m a graphic designer who focuses on connecting Saudi Arabian culture to my work in many forms such as colors, shapes, and patterns. I deliver my work as best as possible; I make it understandable, relatable, and appealing to the eye. I create creating flyers, magazines, and posters. My designs are printed on t-shirts, posted on social media, or even printed and framed. I also create videos that explain my work or how it was done to add additional information and context.

Empty Quarter

I designed a full outfit inspired by fashionable street wear. The outfit consists of a t-shirt, dress shirt, jeans, shoes, and accessories with them. My artistic focus is to connect my cultural identity as a Saudi

to my work. I developed my designs by focusing on the memories, places, and feelings I have for my culture. For instance, I’m using patterns inspired by traditional living room cushions and seating areas where people back then sat on the ground for the shoes and t-shirt designs. Another exaple is the dress shirt which was inspired by traditional structures you can find inside mosques.

For those who didn’t walk in my shoes, I want you to experience my culture by viewing my artwork. I want those patterns to be recognized and connected to Saudi by people who haven’t been there. I want to appreciate the Saudi Arabian culture and show how artistic the culture is.

MY PROPOSAL Project Description BN9 is a self brand that uses objects as it’s canvas. The use of words, drawings, images, patterns, and colors to give meaning to objects used. For example, the use of Arabic patterns to express a specific style and people. I want the project to be seen from two platforms. So the physical objects will be at the gallery and people can interact with them, they can touch them, move them around to see all the sides. The other thing is the TV.

Objectives The reason I chose this project is to show how I can use my graphic skills on something other than flayers, posters, and paper in general. My vision is to be able to communicate through the objects I will be using. I want to mix culture with art to express specific type of emotions for the viewer to experience. After creating the design, I know how to transfer it from the PC screen to a moving object since I’ve already done that in the past. Empty Quarter 6 | My Proposal

Research “Fashion is a form of self-expression and autonomy.” As described in Wikipedia. I want to be able express myself though my work. Fashion is “the prevailing style (as in dress) during a particular time,” according to Merriam Webster. However, I believe that it’s not only the “dress” but much more today. Like now fashion is everything you wear or can hold with you while moving around. It can be a bag, wallet, phone cover, shoes, accessories and more!

Media I want to use every thing possible for someone to carry around with him. And I say him because the person will be male. So, t-shirt, jacket, accessories, jeans, and shoes. I’ll use a TV as well.

Timeline Week 3-4 will be sketching the look that I want for my male object. Week 5-7 making the designs for the jacket, t-shirt and jeans. Week 8-9 designing the shoes. Week 10-11 finish the accessories. Week 12-13 print everything and put it all together and have anything digital ready.

Space I don’t need much of a space but I want to hang the stuff in different areas and have it put together on the TV with a short video on repeat. More about it in Visuals.

Equipment or Technology I’ll use Adobe suite for the designs and TV for the visuals. I will use Sony Vegas for video editing.

Special Challenges

Empty Quarter

The installation of each product will be very challenging. First, I need to use transparent wires to hold the clothes in place. second, I need to make the video loop seamlessly. finally, I need to use my time wisely to be able to finsh everything on time.
