BTS
Their Story BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a South Korean boy band formed and debuted under BigHit Entertainment in 2013. The band includes seven members: Kim Namjoon (RM), Kim Seokjin (Jin), Min Yoongi (Suga), Jung Hoseok (J-hope), Park Jimin (Jimin), Kim Taehyung (V), and Jeon Jungkook (Jungkook). They are about to celebrate eight years together in July. This worldwide band is not only changing the music industry, but also the world by inspiring people.
Their Importance The impact they have made globally is very significant. They are South Korean, and their songs are sung in their native language, Korean. However, for BTS and its fans, music transcends language. One of their most significant contributions to society is how they changed the western music industry. The western music industry is very racist and xenophobic and dominated by mainly white artists. BTS has proven that no language barrier, cultural difference, or prejudice can prevent them from conquering the global music scene. This has also helped other Korean/ Asian artists in general. Besides the considerable impact, their music has on their fans and now the general public, their sales and awards further prove that music in a different language can be successful in America. This is very important because most Americans speak or understand English, so allowing artists who speak and sing in a different language to be as prominent as BTS is essential. They are also ambassadors for UNICEF and have a campaign that advocates against violence. I think this is a significant contribution because they are not only musicians but activists.
