ABOUT

MALALA

2 Malala Yousafzai was born on July 12, 1997, in Mingora, Pakistan, located in Swat Valley. When Taliban forces began to attack girl’s schools in Swat, Malala gave a speech against their threats to deny girl’s education At 11, she created a blog for the BBC under a false name to talk about life living under Taliban threats and later was revealed to the public as the blogger. Her growing platform and activism caused the Taliban to issue a death threat against her. On October 9, 2012, she was shot in the left side of her head while on a school bus. This left her permanently paralyzed on the left side of her face.

Hyde Park is the largest of four Royal Parks located in London, England. It attracts over 10,000 people throughout the day and brings in visitors from all around the world. After the attack, Malala moved to England to attend school, where she studies today, at Oxford University. Because England is the place where Malala was allowed to spread her wings and go to school and campaign for what she believes in, I choose Hyde Park as a place to commemorate her.
