Bio
Roger Federer is regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Federer was born on the eighth of August in 1981 in Basel, Switzerland. In his early life, he played plenty of sports such as badminton, basketball, football, and of course tennis.
In junior tennis, Federer had great success in his favorite tournament, Wimbledon, winning both boys’ singles and doubles. In 1998 the Swiss turned pro and joined the ATP tour. Entering the top 100 in the world just a year later on September 20th, 1999
It was only natural for Federer to make his first Grand Slam victory in no where else other than Wimbledon. Roger defeated Mark Philippoussis, 7-6, 6-2, 7-6, to become a Wimbledon champion. This marked the beginning of Federer’s rule.
Though the legend is nearing the end of his career. He is still aiming high and working hard. Federer currently holds 20 Grand Slam titles, tied with his biggest rival Rafael Nadal. Federer is aiming for his 21st at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.

Legacy
The Roger Federer monument will feature his signature “RF” logo standing at approximately ten by ten feet. In front of the RF logo will be a statue of the man himself. The statue will stand 6’1”, a life-size 1:1 replica of the Swiss.
On the back side of the RF will be Federer’s greatest records and achievements during his career engraved. The statue of Federer will include him wearing Nike tennis gear and his Wilson Pro Staff tennis racket.
Location The proposed location for this monument on the GMU campus is at its most fitting place, the GMU Tennis Courts. Having this monument in front of or next to the Mason Tennis Courts would serve as a commemoration to Federer and an inspiration to the Mason Tennis Team. Remembering the legacy and true greatness of the “Swiss Maestro” around the world, I believe would be most fitting at the Wimbledon Grand Slam Championships. Somewhere within the city or at the All England Club itself. Somewhere inside or ouside where center court is located (The red area on the map to the left).
But
Roger Federer’s impact and legacy on the sport should be remembered for generations to come. Roger Federer has not only created and broken records but also created history and has given so much to the sport and the people of tennis. The Roger Federer Foundation aims to give opportunities to children that may not have the luxuries of education and sport. Here is a quote from Federer himself on the purpose of his foundation: “I believe in the power of people. They might only need some initial empowerment. We know that a good education empowers children by allowing them to take their future into their own hands and play an active part in shaping it. And we trust in the best will of parents that they want to ensure the best possible opportunities for their children. For 17 years my Foundation has therefore been committed to enable parents and local communities in providing these children with the opportunity for a good education. We have reached one million children by today.” Roger Federer is an absolute class act and wonderful human being. Being the greatest tennis player of all time and a philanthropist dedicated to the future of generations to come, deserves to be monumented and forever remembered in history both in sports fans minds and a physical location for people around the world to see.
