THREE POST WAR PRINCIPLES
The First Principle: Restore what has been lost to its pre-war condition.
The Second Principle: Demolish the damaged and destroyed buildings and build something entirely new.
Third Principle: The post-war city must create the new from the damaged old.

THESIS STATMENT
THE ROLE OF ARCHITECTS BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER WAR REMAINS A COMPLEX SUBJECT WARRANTING ACADEMIC EXAMINATION. DESPITE OUR LACK OF DIRECT CONTROL OVER ARCHITECTURAL OUTCOMES, WE ARE INTRINSICALLY ENGAGED IN POLITICAL PROCESSES, AKIN TO POLITICIANS, ALBEIT WITH VARYING DEGREES OF INFLUENCE. NAVIGATING THE POLITICIZATION INHERENT IN ARCHITECTURE, ARCHITECTS ARE TASKED WITH CHALLENGING SOCIETAL NARRATIVES SURROUNDING WAR, ADVOCATING FOR PEACE, AND AMELIORATING ITS PROFOUND IMPACTS ON AFFECTED COMMUNITIES. THE ASCENDANCY OF URBAN WARFARE AS A PREDOMINANT MODE OF CONFLICT UNDERSCORES THE URGENCY FOR ARCHITECTS TO GRAPPLE WITH THE INTRICACIES OF POSTWAR RECONSTRUCTION AND RECONCILIATION EFFORTS. RECENT EVENTS, TYPIFIED BY THE TRAGEDY IN GAZA, UNDERSCORE HUMANITY’S RECURRING FAILURE TO HEED HISTORICAL LESSONS, PROMPTING REFLECTION ON THE ENDURING ALLURE OF WARFARE AND ITS UNDERLYING ECONOMIC INCENTIVES. IN LIGHT OF THESE CONSIDERATIONS, ARCHITECTS ARE COMPELLED TO SCRUTINIZE THEIR POTENTIAL ROLE IN FOSTERING A MORE PEACEFUL FUTURE, NOTWITHSTANDING THE INHERENT UNCERTAINTIES SURROUNDING THEIR INVOLVEMENT IN CONFLICT DISCOURSE.
