INTRODUCTION TO CIMSA AND IFMSA

CenterforIndonesianMedicalStudents'Activities (CIMSA) isanon-profitandnon-governmentalorganization independent,nationalist,non-political,andnon-partisanwith activity-basedprograms.CIMSAconsistsof6standing committeesrelatedtohealthissues:sexual&reproductivehealth andrightsincludingHIV/AIDS,publichealth,medicaleducation, humanrightsandpeace,researchexchange,andprofessional exchange.

Having30activelocalsthroughoutIndonesia,CIMSAisaffiliatedwiththe InternationalFederationofMedicalStudents'Associations(IFMSA),themost prominentstudentorganizationintheworldwithrecognitionfromtheUnited Nations.Withthemissiontoempowermedicalstudentstoactivelylearnandcreate, planstrategies,andexecutemovementstoimprovethenation'shealthandwellbeing,CIMSAcontinuesitsstruggletocreateahealthier,moresecure,andmore prosperousIndonesiawithequalopportunitiesineducationandhealth,andalsoto improvelivesandreachprosperityandsocialjustice.

TheInternationalFederationofMedicalStudents' Associations(IFMSA) isanon-profit,non-governmental,and nonpartisanorganizationrepresentingassociationsofmedical studentsinternationally.IFMSAwasfoundedin1951andisone oftheworld'soldestandlargestorganizations.Itrepresents, connects,andengagesdailywithmedicalstudentsfromaround theglobetoshapeasustainableandhealthyworld.

Itsworkisdividedintofourmainglobalhealthareas:public

health,sexualreproductivehealth,medicaleducation,humanrights,andpeace. Furthermore,eachyear,IFMSAorganizes13.000clinicalandresearchexchange programsforitsstudentstoexploreinnovationsinmedicineandhealthcaresystems indifferentsettings.

IFMSAisalsoofficiallyrecognizedbytheUnitedNationsasthevoiceof internationalmedicalstudentsandhasofficialrelationshipswithmajorUNagencies, suchastheWorldHealthOrganization,UNESCO,UNAIDS,UNHCR,andUNFPA,as wellaskeysupportersliketheWorldMedicalAssociation(WMA).Thishasensured thatIFMSAisconsideredamajorpartnerwhenitcomestoissuesrelatingtoglobal health,internationallyandlocally.

INTRODUCTION TO SCOPE

ThefirststandingcommitteewithinIFMSAwasthe StandingCommitteeonProfessionalExchange (SCOPE) in1951.Itstartedsmall,beginningwithonly8 Europeancountries,butsincethenhasgrownintoone ofthelargeststudent-runexchangeprogramsinthe world,withmorethan1.5millionmedicalstudentsfrom morethan100NationalMemberOrganizationsare participatingtoday.TheSCOPEexchangeprogram

isaqualityeducationalandculturalexperienceorganizedentirelyby medicalstudentswiththehelpoftheirmedicalfaculties.

Theprogramaimstopromoteculturalunderstandingandcooperation amongmedicalstudentsandallhealthprofessionalsthroughthe facilitationofinternationalstudentexchanges,toallowallstudentsto learnaboutglobalhealthandattainthispartlybyhavingitsexchanges accreditedbymedicalfacultiesworldwide.

SCOPEIndonesiaitselfwasestablishedin2001.LedbytheNEO(National ExchangeOfficers),SCOPEisthestandingcommitteeinCIMSAthat managesIndonesia'sbiggestmedicalstudentexchange.Wefacilitate approximately200outgoingandincomingexchangestudentseachyear. SCOPECIMSAisaffiliatedwithIFMSAandcooperatesreasonablywith variousstakeholdersandrelevantexternalpartiestofacilitatestudent exchange.Wealsoorganizevariousprojectsasaformofcharacter developmentforthemembersofSCOPEitselfandconductjointactivities withinCIMSAtoimprovethenation'shealth.

ThebiggestfieldworkofSCOPEismanagingIncomingsandOutgoings. ForIncomings,SCOPEhelpsinternationalstudentswhowantto experienceclinicalclerkshipinhospitalsorteachinghospitalsinIndonesia throughadministrationproceduresaswellashelpingtheexchange studentsforadaptingduringtheperiodoftheirclerkshipinIndonesia. SCOPEalsoengagesinternationalstudentstoparticipateinculturaland socialactivitiesasawaytointroduceallaspectsoflifeinIndonesia.Forthe Outgoings,SCOPECIMSAfacilitatesIndonesianmedicalstudentswho havetheinterestandabilitytoexperienceclerkshipabroadbyhelping withtheprocessingofthedocumentsandadministrationrequiredbythe destinationcountrythatwealreadyhaveacontractunderregulations.

QUALIFICATION

Student,whowantstogoforanexchange,must:

1. Beatleastintheirthirdyearofmedicalstudyduringtheexchange program(keepinmindthattheapplicationprocesstakesaboutoneyear) orhavenotgraduatedformorethansixmonthsbythedepartureof exchange.

YouwillbecontactedbyNationalExchangeCommitteeanddirectedto theLocalExchangeOfficerfromoneofourlocalcommittees.OurLocal ExchangeOfficerwillguideyoutocontinuetothenextphase.

Whenistheexchangeperiod?

ThisexchangeseasonstartsfromApril2024-March2025.Thus,youare allowedtochooseyourpreferreddateofdeparture.However,before youfillinthedate,youmustbeawareofthecountry'sexchange conditionssinceseveralcountriesonlyhoststudentsinspecificmonths.

Howwilltheselectionbemade?

Therearetwophasesofselection:document(CVandmotivationletter) selectionandinterview.EnglishTestwillbeincludedintheinterviewand witha3rdpartyorganizer,IndonesianLanguageProgram(ILP).

Howlongisthedurationoftheexchange?

Theexchangewillbeheldforfourweekstoensureouracademicquality. Togetthecertificate,youhavetofulfillatleast80%ofattendance.

HowmuchshouldIpayforthisprogram?

ThefeeforthebilateralcontractwillbeRp4,900.000andRp1.400.000,fortheunilateralcontract.ThefeeshouldbepaidtotheTreasurerof SCOPECIMSArightaftertheagreementhasbeensigned.

Foraunilateralcontract,youalsohavetopaytheunilateralfeedirectly tothehostingcountryinthewaymentionedintheirexchange conditions.Pleaseseetherelatedcountry'sexchangeconditionsto notifytheamountofitsunilateralfee.

WhatisincludedinthecontractfeethatIhavetopay?

Thecontractfeewillincludeyouraccommodationandmealsonceper day(orequivalent)duringtheexchangeperiod.

Whataboutthevisa?

Theoutgoingstudentisfullyresponsibleforobtainingtheirvisa.SCOPE CIMSAwillhelptoprovideaninvitationletterfromthehostingcountry. AnyfailureinvisaobtainingisnottheresponsibilityofSCOPECIMSA.
