StandingCommitteeonProfessionalExchange(SCOPE) is oneofthesix(6)standingcommitteesoftheCenterfor IndonesianMedicalStudents'Activities(CIMSA)thatengagesin thefeldofprofessionalexchangeandhas17localsspreadin variousfacultiesofmedicinethroughoutIndonesia.Twonational offcersleadSCOPECIMSA;NationalExchangeOffcerfor Incoming(NEO-In)andNationalExchangeOffcerforOutgoing (NEO-Out),aswellasmaintainednationallybytheNational ExchangeCommittee.

SCOPEisastandingcommitteefocusingon incominghostingandoutgoing sending,exchangepromotions,globalhealthawareness,andcultural understanding. SCOPECIMSAisaffliatedwithIFMSAanddevelopsgood cooperationwithvariousstakeholdersandrelevantexternalpartiestofacilitate studentexchange.SCOPECIMSAalsoorganizesvariousprojectsasaformof characterdevelopmentforthemembersofSCOPEitselfandconductsjointactivities withinCIMSAtoimprovethenation'shealth.

Goingintothethirdyearofthepandemic,everybody'sliveshave changed.Manyhardtimes,losses,andevengrieveshavechallengedusin manydifferentways.Nevertheless,hereweare,prevailingandsurviving, arguably,oneofthemostbrutalyearsofthiscentury.Inthemidstofitall, therehavebeenmanyopendoorsthatbringentertainmenttoourhomes andopportunitiestolearn,growandconnectwhileignoringphysical limitations.

The StandingCommitteeonProfessionalExchange(SCOPE) ofthe CenterforIndonesianMedicalStudents'Activities(CIMSA) hasalso beneftedfromthevirtualsettingthatthispastyearhasforcedustodo. BioethicswasintroducedbyFritzJahr andthenpopularizedbyPotterin1971. Bioethicsisabranchofsciencethat continuestogrowalongwiththe dynamicsofvariousscientifcfelds, includingthehealthsector.

Ethicalproblemsinthehealth sectorareconstantlyevolvingand oftenraiseethicaldilemmasthatare noteasytosolve. Thenuancesofthe healthlawarealsoverythickinhealth serviceswithobligationsthatmustbe donebypeopleinvolvedinitwho,if notcarefulinacting,willbevulnerable todemandsandlawsuits.Therefore,it isessentialtounderstandtheethical andlegalprinciplesinthemedical professionsothattheseclaimsand casescanbeeluded.Inmedicalethics, theissuesthatarisearemainlyrelated tothegoalsoftreatment,critical refectiononaction,anddeveloping autonomyindecision-makingwithinthe scopeofpatients,doctors,andother partiesinvolvedinthesystemof medicalpractice.Incomparison,clinical ethicsisnarrowertoaclinicaldegree,a practicalbranchthatprovidesa structuredapproachtoidentify,analyze, andsolveethicalissuesinclinical practice. Theprinciplesofbioethicsapply ethicalprinciplesinmedicineand health. Appliedmedicalethicsis dividedintotwobroadcategories: Principlism,prioritizingethical principlesinacting. Thiscontext includesnormativeethics,thefour basicmoralprinciples, of libertarianism,andbenefcencein trust.Theprimarybasisofthe principleisthatchoosingoneofthe

However,thebasicmoralrules, alongwithethicaltheoryandethical systematics,whichcontainfundamental ethicalvalues,arethefoundationofthe nobleprofessionofmedicine.Thereare fourmainmoralprinciplesinmedical work,namely:

Theprincipleofbenefcenceisa moralobligationtoactfor goodnessorbeneftothers. This principleisdrawntoclarifyor convinceoneselfandismorewidely acceptedasanappropriategoalof medicine.Theapplicationofthe principleofbenefcenceisnot absolute.However,thereareseveral examplesoftheapplicationofthis principleofgoodwill,asfollows: protectingandsafeguardingthe rightsofothersandpreventingharm thatcouldbefallothers.

Theprincipleofnon-malefcence prohibitsactionsthatharmor worsenotherpeople'ssituations. Thecodeofnon-malefcenceisoften discussedinthemedicalfeld, especiallyincontroversialcases relatedtocasesofterminalillness, seriousillness,andsevereinjury.This principleplaysavitalroleinmaking aperson'sdecisiontomaintainor endanotherperson'slife(patient). Theprincipleofautonomyisused inanindividualconditionwith variousmeanings,suchastheright tobefree,personalchoice, freedomofdesire,andbeing oneself. Theprimarypurposeof individualautonomyisaperson's ruleofoneselfthatisfreefrom interferencefromothersandfrom

interferencefromothersandfrom limitationsthatcanpreventtheright choices.Theimportantthingin applyingtheprincipleofautonomyis toassessthecompetenceofothers (patients).However,ingeneral,there areseveralwaystousethisprinciple inmedicalpractice.Thesemethods are:Respectingtheprivacyrightsof others,protectingconfdential information,andGettingapprovalto actagainstotherpeople(patients). Theprincipleofjusticeisa principlethattreatsotherpeople fairly,correctly,andappropriately bytheirrights. Afairsituationis someonewhogetsbeneftsor burdensthatarebytherightshehas orhisconditions.Meanwhile,an unfairsituationisanactionthatis wrongornegligentintheformof negatingbeneftstosomeonewith unequalrights orburden sharing.

IFMSAGeneralAssembliesare amongthemostsignifcantyouth-led eventsaroundtheworld.TheGAis heldtwiceayear,onceinMarchand onceinAugust. Thisyear,from1st-7th March2022,theMacedonianMedical Students'Associationistheonewho organizestheMarchMeetinginOhrid, Macedonia.OneoftheSCOPE memberswithourtwoNEOshada chancetoattendtheGA.Themain themeofthisyear'sAugustMeetingis socialaccountability.Thesessionsinthe MarchMeetingincludethestanding committeesessions,theregional sessions,theplenarysessions,training, themainthemeevents,andthesocial programs.Thisquickfashbackwillgive youaquickpeekintothosesessions.

TheGAisfrststartedwithPlenary SimulationandPlenarySession.The nextsessionistheopeningceremony whichisthefrstsocialprogram.The standingcommitteesessionsareheld thenextday.TheSCOPESessions Teamhasprepareditadequately,and wediscussedmanyissuesinthese sessionsthatarerelevanttowhatwe facedailyasexchangeorganizers.The SCsessionstartedwithspeeddating gameswhicharealotoffun.Next,we gotachancetodiscusstechnicalissues suchasSCOPE,IFMSA,andthe exchangedatabase.Wealsohavea "SharingisCaring"sessionandSmall WorkingGroups(SWG)sessions.The

SharingisCaringsessionhadusdiscuss theupdatesonSCOPE'sstrategicand annualworkingplanandtheIFMSA database.Afterthetechnicalities,we gatherforaroundofsharingsessions, whereweshareouropinionand thoughtsontheselectedissues, includingfundraisinginexchanges, capacitybuildingofLEOs,national socialprograms,goodnationalgeneral assembly,member'slackofmotivation, preparationforcontractsfair,insurance issues,handoverprocess,collaboration withotherstandingcommittees,and visaissues.

Besidesthediscussionandtraining, thereisalsotheexchangesfairwhichis superfun. ExchangesFairisthe exhibitionwherethehardworkand thegloryoftheNMOsarerefected. TheNMOcanpromoteitsexchange programandraisethestandardsto thehighestlevelsintermsof AcademicQualityandSocial Program. Itisthemostcelebratoryand festiveeventofexchanges.Itis guaranteedtobetheunforgettable highlightoftheMarchMeetingfor SCOPEmembers!

Thisyearwehad2regionalsessions inTheGA.Thefrstregionalsessionwas heldonthefrstdayofthemeeting.Our RegionalDirector,MichelleChoa, introducedustotheAsia-Pacifc InternationalTeam.Wealsohearda presentationabouttheAsia-Pacifc Team'sworkandaJointParallelSession aboutACTION,EnvironmentalHealth, andGenderEquity.Thelastregional

sessionwasheldonthethirddayofthemeeting.Thesessionstartedwithajoint sessionandcontinuedwithlotsofpresentations.Thesessionmostlyconsistsof adoptingtheAsia-PacifcRegionalTeam'sreportanddiscussingchangesinthe Asia-PacifcRegion'sRegulations.Bothsessionsendedwithustakinggroup pictures. IFMSAMarchMeetingwassuchanincredibleexperienceforSCOPE memberstoattend. The7mostdelightfuldaysarefullofusadvocatingfor pressingglobalissues,gettinginvolvedinthedecision-makingprocess,training opportunitiesforself-skillsdevelopment,havinglotsoffunandentertainment, assemblingfriendshipsthatwilllastforalifetime,anddiscoveringawholenew worldthatisthrilledtohaveusinit!

Afterthesepasttwoyearsof virtuallyparticipatinginthe internationalmeeting,SCOPECIMSA Indonesiacouldfnallyjoininperson forthe71stAugustMeeting2022. TheGeneralAssemblywasheldin Istanbul,Turkiye,fromAugust1until August7,2022.Likeournational meetings,thereweretrainingsessions foreachstandingcommitteebetween thegeneralassemblysession.Wetried tojoinasmanysessionsaspossible sinceitwasourfrstinternational meetingexperience.

Onourarrivalday,wewerepicked upbytheOCandwenttotheTuyap PalasHotel,wherethemeetingwas heldbybus.Thehotelwasfarfromthe airportandthecentralcityofIstanbul. Butthehotelwassupernice;Ibelieve theOCrentedthewhole2towersfor thisAugustMeeting.Atnightafter dinner,wejoinedthewelcomingparty. Allofthedelegatesfromaroundthe worldgatheredinonebigballroom.It wasaformalsession,soeverybodywas wearingsuitsanddresses.Thesession startedwithaspeechfromtheIFMSA President2021/2022,followedby introducingthewholeIFMSAteamof offcials.Thenightendedwithamusic/ danceparty.

Afterbreakfast,westartedwithan EDI(Equity,Diversity,andInclusivity) trainingsessiononthefrstday, followedbySCOPEsessions.SCOPEIT

preparedmanyparallelsessionsforus tojoin,andwecouldchoosewhich trainingwewantedtoattend.Wewere luckysincetherewasmorethanone SCOPEdelegatefromCIMSA.Eachof uscouldjoindifferenttrainingsessions andsharethem.Afterthatlunch,we hadaregionalsessionwiththeAsia PacifcFamily! Wehadsomuchfun playinggamesandsharingtogether. After2hoursofbreak,wecontinued withthethemeevent,dinner,andjoint sessions.Wefnishedoffthefrstday withplenariesandasocialprogram.

Onthesecondday,SCOPEhelda strategyconsultationsessionwherewe coulddiscusstogetherwithSCOPEIT andalloftheSCOPEdelegates regardingSCOPEstrategy.Andthen, anotherparallelsession!Thistimewe weretalkingaboutvisaissuesandthe exchangedatabase.Rightafterlunch, weattendtheTNETgraduation.There weretrainingsessionsfacilitatedbythe newexchangetrainers.Likethefrst day,weclosedthedaywithdinner, aplenarysession,andasocial

Thefourthday,thisisthedaywehad beenwaitingfor!Afterattendingthe regionalsessioninthemorning,wehad toprepareforourboothattheposter andcontractfair!EveryNMOhadtheir ownprettybooth.Wemetmanypeople interestedingoingtoIndonesiafor theirexchangeprogramanddidnot forgettosignmanyexchangecontracts forthenextexchangeseason!Super duperhectic,butdefnitelyhappysince wemetotherNMOsNEOandsigned manyagreements.Afterthat,wehad lunchandanactivityfair.We fnishedthedayasusualwith dinner,plenary,andasocial program.

Ontheffthday,a.k.a;thelastday, SCOPEheldvariousparallelsessions. Wegottojointhe“promotionand marketinginexchanges”and“fnances andfundraisinginexchanges”sessions. Thenwehadlunchandtheclosing ceremonyofthegeneralassembly!

Itwassuchanexperiencesince thiswasthefrstoffineinternational meetingafterthepandemichit,and everybodywassuperexcited. Weare gladtomeetandgettoknowmany amazingpeopleworldwide.Looking forwardtoanotherjourneywith CIMSAandIFMSA!

InSeptember2022,Iparticipated inaone-monthSCOPEexchangein Indonesia.Ayearearlier,Idecidedto applyforitbecause Iwantedto experiencethehealthcaresystemin anon-Europeancountry. Additionally, Iamverycurioustogettoknow differentcountriesandcultures.WhenI applied,IchosetheUniversitasGadjah MadainYogyakartabecauseitisoneof thebestuniversitiesinIndonesia.Afew weeksbeforetheSCOPEExchange started,Ireceiveddetailsaboutthe exchange,myaccommodation,andthe contactinfooftheLEOofUGM,Raiqa. Theinformationwasveryhelpful,and Raiqacouldanswerallmyquestions.

IenteredIndonesiaviaJakarta, whereIstayedfortwodays.InJakarta, IvisitedMonas,thenational monument.Youcangouptothetop andhaveanimpressiveviewof Jakarta'sSkyline.Onthegroundfoor ofMonas,theyhaveanexhibitionof Indonesianhistory,anditwasvery interestingtolearnaboutthehistory directlyatthebeginningofmy exchange.FromJakarta,Itookatrain toBandung,andIvisitedthefamous foatingmarketsofLembangandthe valleyaroundKawahPutih.Asthetrain systeminJavaisreallygood,Icould

takeatrainagaintogotoYogyakarta. AttheYogyakartatrainstation,Igot pickedupbyRaiqaandbroughttomy accommodationforthenextmonth.I stayedina"KostPutri,"astudentdorm forwomen.Thedormincludeda bathroom,sharedkitchen,andwashing machine.Thedormlocationwas perfect,asIcouldwalktothehospital, anditislocatedinPogung,the "studentquarter"ofYogyakarta. WhentheSCOPEExchange offciallystarted, theUGMstudents organizedafun,welcomingpartyfor alltheincomingstudents. Ienjoyed gettingtoknowIndonesianmedical students,anditwasnicetolearnabout theirmedicalstudies.

IchoseAnesthesiaasthe departmentformySCOPEExchange, andmysupervisor,dr.Erlanggashowed mearoundthehospitalRSUPDr. Sardjitotheentirefrstday.Ingeneral, thedepartmentofAnesthesiaanddr. Erlanggamadeanefforttoorganize everythingverywell.Theyseparated theclerkshipinto4differentlocations: thefrstweek,Istayedinthe emergencydepartment,thesecondin post-surgeryICU,thethirdingeneral surgery,andthefourthincardiac surgery. Thishasledtoavery diversifedSCOPEExchange,whereI couldlearnandobservemany differentthings. Overall,the anesthesiologistswerefriendlyand explainedeverythinginverydetail.Dr. Erlanggawasalwaysaccessible,andhe arrangedanoutstandingexchange.As partoftheSCOPEExchange,Ihadto doacasepresentation,whichIcould presentatthemorningconference duringtheanesthesiarotation.

Inthemiddleoftheexchange, thelocalcommitteeorganizedadayof raftinginMagelangforasocial program.Weallhadsomuchfun spendingthatdaywiththelocal studentsandhadreallyinteresting conversationsduringthedinner.Last butnotleast,theyorganizedafarewell partytomeetuponelasttimebefore theincomingsleftYogyakarta.To summarize,thelocalcommitteewas helpful,nice,andcommittedto creatinganiceexchangeforus.

Inconclusion, doingtheSCOPE ExchangeinIndonesiawasthebest decisionI'veevermade! Indonesiais anextremelybeautifulcountry,butthe peopleyoumeettherearethemost beautiful.Tosumup,itwasaonce-in-alifetimeexperienceIwillneverforget about.

Studyingabroadhasbeenanaimof mineforever,andwithnohesitation,I tooktheopportunitytobepartofthe 2022IFMSA-SCOPEExchange Program.I'mSalmaDwitaMadyasti,a 4th-yearmedicalstudentatUniversitas MuhammadiyahYogyakarta. Oneof thereasonswhyIwouldtakerisksto studyacrosstheglobeistoexpand myabilitiestoframemyperspective andmindsettoseetheworld revolvesaroundmeineverypossible way. Theprocessofenrollinginthis programwasn'tthesimplestever.Iwas turneddownthreetimesuntilIwas fnallyacceptedinthesecondextended batchandassignedtoPoland.Forno particularreason,Polandwasn'tmyfrst choiceofcountry,butnowthatI've beenaccepted,I'mfortunateIwasable tovisitoneofEurope'smostdevout nations.Notjustbecauseofthenation asawholebutalsobecauseofhow wonderfulthePolishpeopleareand howkindtheyaretoeveryone. Additionally,Polandhasdistinctive historicalstructuressetitapartfromthe restofEurope.Asafrst-timevisitorto Europe,theweatherwassomagnifcent thatIarrivedjustassummerwasabout toend.

Thejourneytothedayofmy departurewassoremarkablethatIgot toexperiencealltheprocessesthatI

neededtopreparebeforeleavingmy homecountry.Nottomentionthatmy bestfriendandIgottoexperienceit together.Therewere14incomingsin ourLCinŁódźthatwenttothesame periodfortheprogram.Theywerefrom variousnations,mostofwhichwerein Europe,includingSerbia,Portugal, Spain,Greece,Bulgaria,andtwoguys werefromAlgeriaandTunisia.There werejustthreeofusfromIndonesia,all ofwhomwerefriendsfromthesame universityandacademicyear.They wereallthekindestfolksIhaveever met.Thefourweekswentinablinkof aneyebecauseweappreciateeach other'scompanyandhowweshare everylittlethingaboutourselves, whetherourpersonalitiesorourhome countries.Thesequalitiesallowedusto bondwithinonlyashortamountof time.

My2friendsandIgotaccepted intoBarlickiUniversityHospital's Surgery-Generaldepartment.Wemet withoursupervisor,nameddr.Adam saidweshouldcomethefollowingday tobeginourinternship.Hewasthe mostamiableandamazingpersonI haveevermet.Theothermedical professionalswerealsotheverybestI couldhopefor.Theywouldexplain everypatient'scircumstancewhenwe visitedthepatientward.They describedthediagnosis,thesymptoms, thetherapy,andthefuturecourseof actionforthepatientwitha complication.Afterseeingvarious patientsinthepatientwardonourfrst

offcialdayoftheinternship,thedoctor askedustoremovethestitchesfroma patientwhohadjustundergonesurgery afewdayspriorduetoanInguinal Hernia.Wewerethrilledthathe allowedustodoitunderhis supervision.Wealsovisitedthe operatingroomeverydaytoobserve someprocedures.Laparoscopywas oneoftheoperationsthatwere regularlycarriedout.Whenperforming theprocedure,thesurgeonwould kindlyexplainwhattheyaredoingwith thepatient.Howtheycouldremain focusedwhiledoingitwhileeducating peopleamazedme,anditalsomade merealizehowharditistobecomea surgeon.Weusuallyreturnfromthe hospitalby1PM.

Thesocialprogramsthatwehad wereabsolutelyamazing. Wewould cruisethecityuntillateatnightwhile sittingdowninacaféatoneofthemost well-knownandlongeststreetsin EuropenamedPiotrkowskaStreet whereithaseverythingyoucould possiblyfndinŁódź.Wealsovisited theOrientariumZooŁódźonthefrst weekoftheprogram.Manufacturawas anotherlocationIfrequently frequented.Itwaslocatedintheheart ofŁódźandservedasthecity'slargest retail,cultural,andtourismattraction. Someofusalsospentthethird weekendinKrakowfortwonights.We wenttoSaltMines,oneofPoland's mostfamousattractions.Surrounding myselfwithallthosepeoplemademe confrontthecultureshockI experiencedandtransformtheminto knowledgeIcouldappreciatemore.

Myexchangeexperiencewould beoneofthebestlife-changing experiences. Thatisbecauseit wasn'tmyfrsttimetravellingalone withoutmyparents,butitisstill somethingIcanlookbackonand learnfromnowthatIamayoung adultwomanandcanmakemyown lifedecisions.Alongtheway,I understoodthevalueofinteracting withothersandthatIdon'tneedto worryaboutwhattheymightthinkof me.Iwouldn'ttradetheupsand downsIexperiencedduringthe variousproceduresleadinguptoand duringtheprogramforanything else;theytrulyimprovedme.My perspectivehaschangedduetothis experiencesinceIfeelmore autonomousandconsciousofmy personalduty.Iamthrilledthatthis journeywentfarbetterthanIhad anticipated.Iwouldlikethe opportunitytogothroughitall again.

PREBIOTHICS3.0(SCOPExSCOREBIOETHICSDAY)washeld,commemorating WorldBioethicsDay.Thisyear,weencouragedmedicalstudentstoactively contributetoouractivities:socialmediacampaign,publicdiscussion,andpublic postercompetition.Wekickedoffthisyear’sPREBIOTHICS3.0byopening registrationforcollegestudentsofanybackgroundwithinterestinbioethicsto recordavideowithaconceptcalled“MiddleGround”.Thecampaignsetouta spacetotalkandlistentovolunteers’argumentsonthegivenpromptwithout judgement.Sothatthediscussionbecameinteractive,weselectedvolunteerswith not-so-exactperspectiveseachother.On16thOctober2022,thevideowastaken offine,withfourvolunteerssigningawritteninformedconsentstatement beforehand.ThefootagehasbeenairingonYoutubesince6thNovember2022.

Inourpublicdiscussion,wedividedparticipantsintoseveralbreakoutroomsfor afocusgroupdiscussion.Ineachroom,thereweremoderatorstoleadthe participantstosharingtheiropinionsoneightquestions.After60minutes,we returnedtothemainroomandlistenedtothreespectacularspeakers,Nabila Puspakesuma,S.Psi,M.ScofCBMHFK-KMKUGM,Prof.Dr.RiantoSetiabudy,
