Dear Bartholomew County Resident: Imagine the Possibilities this holiday season by joining with Heritage Fund to support the important work of our not-for-profit community and Grant a Wish 2012 by shopping from the many needs on their list. IMAGINE the POSSIBILITIES of being able help our community and its residents. As the Community Foundation for Bartholomew County, Heritage Fund is committed to working with local partners to address needs within the community and provide support to not-for-profit organizations that in turn offer programs and services to area residents. Grant a Wish 2011 fulfilled 111 wishes and raised more than $33,000 to help and support local area residents and not-for-profit organizations!! Building on this success, we are expanding the support of the program and will be offering $25,000 in matching support for 2012. In this effort, it is our goal to raise $50,000 for community needs, and we need your help to get there!! Grant a Wish 2012 provides 68 exciting opportunities to make wishes come true in our community and the CHALLENGE this holiday season is to fill them all. The program offers a unique shopping experience during the holidays to gift a wish to a friend, family member, co-worker or even yourself! You can choose to Grant a Wish individually, or with a group. Wishes start at $20 and cover a wide variety of community needs. If you would like to fulfill (or partially fulfill) one of the listed wishes you can use the form in this booklet or you can make your gift online at www.heritagefundbc.org. For 2012 there will be a $3,000 cap on the match an organization may receive and we will match up to $500 in gifts from an individual donor. The first $25,000 received will be matched, make your donation soon to ensure that your gift is DOUBLED!! If you prefer to support the long term needs of not-for-profit organizations, the organizations marked with an asterisk have established an endowment fund within Heritage Fund. Animal Welfare Wishes *Bartholomew County Humane Society www.bartholomewhumane.org
Wish 1: Cats brought in to the shelter must be tested for feline leukemia (FIV) and heartworm. This helps to ensure they are healthy and will not transmit diseases to the other animals. Grant a Wish: $50 will test four cats for FIV and heartworms. Wish 2: Heartworms is a deadly disease if left untreated. In order to ensure the safety and health of all the dogs in the shelter, testing is needed to check if the animal should be treated. Grant a Wish: $40 will test four dogs for heartworms. Wish 3: With so many animals at the shelter, it is very costly to feed them nutritious food. Grant a Wish: $55 will feed ALL the animals in the shelter for one day. Or $1,100 will feed ALL the animals in the shelter for 20 days.
Community Animal Rescue Effort (CARE) care.rescuegroups.org
Wish 4: CARE understands the bond between owners and their pets. Stress is created when a family or owner cannot afford basic vet care, is unable to pay for emergency care, or has to leave their home unexpectedly with no shelter for their pet. CARE offers help with emergency vet care, foster care, and pet boarding for a family in need. Grant a Wish: $25 will buy food or flea medication for a cat or dog that needs to leave its family home. $100 will provide emergency vet care and cover kennel costs. Wish 5: To improve the health of their pets and to reduce the number of unwanted pets, CARE works to provide spay/neuter services to low income families. This effort helps to prevent the need to euthanize animals. Grant a Wish: $50 will spay/neuter a dog or cat for a family who needs assistance. $70 will pay for spay/neuter surgery and provide rabies and distemper shots.

Utopia Wildlife Rehabilitators, Inc www.utopiawildlife.org
Wish 6: Utopia Wildlife Rehabilitators raises 300 orphaned baby animals and birds each spring/summer season, and is frequently faced with a shortage of incubator space. Utopia would like to purchase an additional animal incubator to help these babies maintain body temperature; additional heating pads are also needed. Grant a Wish: A new incubator costs $500. Gifts from $25 - $100 would be used to purchase an incubator and heating pads. Wish 7: Utopia does 150 educational programs all over Indiana and is now hosting many programs on-site at our facility. Many of our visitors are elderly or physically handicapped, and a golf cart or similar vehicle would help less mobile individuals get to our amphitheater or to our eagle and other display enclosures. Grant a Wish: $2000 would allow elderly and physically handicapped individuals to enjoy our facility.
Civic Wishes *Bartholomew County Historical Society (BCHS) www.bartholomewhistory.org
Wish 8: The Historical Society offers outreach programs to Bartholomew County Schools. These programs enable students to experience history through hands-on learning activities without the financial cost of conventional field trips. Topics include Women's Suffrage, Map Reading and Geography, the US Civil War and more! BCHS needs help with program costs and supplies. Grant a Wish: $75 will pay for supplies for up to 40 children to participate in the program. Wish 9: Scholarship support for children to attend Adventures in Architecture Camp, held in conjunction with Kidscommons. This four day event allows children age 8-12yrs old to dive into the world of architecture through hands-on activities, model-making and guided projects. Grant a Wish: $80 will provide a scholarship for a week of camp for a child from a low income family.

Wish 10: After heavy use, a new printer is needed to continue helping students and public visitors at the Archives. The printer will be used to help visitors and students understand and appreciate the architectural history and significance that has helped shape Columbus. Grant a Wish: A new printer costs $300. Wish 11: The Chuck Wilt Youth Scholarship Program enables children from low income families to participate in sporting activities. The program offers scholarships in the amount of $105 per child. Eligible families can choose up to three fee-based programs for their child. Grant a Wish: $35 will enable a child to participate in one athletic program. $105 will provide a full scholarship, providing a child the opportunity to participate in programs encouraging hands-on learning, creativity, sports, aquatics, education, social interaction and much more. The choice of such a wide variety of programs offered by CP&R can alter and enhance the course of a child’s life.

Wish 12: Send a kid to camp! Sponsor a camp scholarship to one of our spring, summer or fall camps and workshops. Grant a Wish: $50 would enable a child from a low income family to attend a camp or workshop. Wish 13: Creative minds creating art! Consumable art supplies are always needed for the Kids-AtArt exhibit where visitors love creating masterpieces to take home. Grant a Wish: $25-50 will purchase needed art supplies, such as crayons, paper, glue, and paint. Wish 14: School groups love coming to Kidscommons but frequently cannot afford the cost of transportation. Grant a Wish: A gift of $50 would allow two classes from a Bartholomew County school to visit Kidscommons for special education opportunities that align with academic state standards.

Wish 15: For artists to work with disabled children at the Very Special Arts Festival for moderately to severely mentally and or physically disabled children. The State funding for this program has been eliminated. The festival provides unique interactive arts activities for these vulnerable children, many of whom do not have other field trip opportunities. Grant a Wish: $150 would pay for one artist to work with disabled children at the Very Special Arts Festival for mentally and or physically disabled children.

Wish 16: CIP offers STRINGS-in the-SCHOOLS lessons in eleven local elementary schools and strives to offer lessons to any student, regardless of ability to pay or socio-economic status (150 total students). Our scholarship program is extensive and students on free and reduced lunch programs are eligible for assistance. Lessons on-site at the schools, as well as music books and rental violins, are part of the scholarship program. Grant a Wish: $50 - $95 for a partial or full scholarship for a child to receive a semester of violin, viola or cello beginning strings classes. An additional $20 would cover instrument rental for one semester for a scholarship student. Wish 17: CIP summer camps provide unique opportunities for all young people in the community kindergarten through 8th grade (175 total youth). Both strings (violin, viola, cello and bass) and choral camps are offered to students. Scholarship funds are needed for students qualifying for free or reduced lunch programs. Grant a Wish: Gifts from $65 - $90 would provide half day or full day scholarship assistance for String and Choral campers.
*Columbus Symphony Orchestra www.columbussymphony.com Wish 18: After the United Way fire, a great deal of valuable music was lost. Recovery efforts have salvaged some of the music, but a large amount was lost forever. This year, Maestro Kalia has programmed an exciting program, but additional music is required. Grant a Wish: $50 would contribute towards the purchase of new music; $1,000 would provide enough to purchase all the required music.

Wish 19: Dancers Studio, Inc. provides a quality dance education in ballet and modern dance to anyone who wishes to dance, regardless of physical ability or financial ability. In this effort, dance shoes must be regularly replaced. Grant a Wish: $80 would provide one pair of pointe shoes for a scholarship student. Wish 20: Dancers Studio, Inc. is offering a new class starting fall of 2012. This class will provide lessons to adults with special needs. Most of the students attending this class will be in need of some scholarship assistance. Grant a Wish: $180 will pay for an entire semester for one student. Gifts of any size to help with fees would be appreciated.

Wish 21: The Bright Beginnings Early Learning Center provides childcare for children (ages six weeks to three years) of BCSC students and staff. The primary focus is to provide care for parenting teens in order for them to finish their high school education. Bright Beginnings provides 100’s of diapers and wipes each week for babies and toddlers of parenting teens. Grant a Wish: $25 would provide diapers and wipes for one child for a week.

Wish 22: Family School Partners program provides mentoring and interactive support to teach parents of at risk families how to be their child’s first and most important teacher. Support is needed for a field trip to the Indianapolis Children’s Museum for parents and children enrolled in the program. This trip would provide a new experience to help and expand the learning of a four year old child. For many families this is their first trip to Indianapolis, first trip out of the county or, for some, first ride on a bus. Grant a Wish: $40 would cover the admission cost of one child and parent to the museum. $350 would cover the cost of bus transportation. Wish 23: Support is needed for special family events (for the families participating in Family School Partners) at local family-friendly locations, such as Kidscommons, Columbus Gymnastics Center and Yes Cinema. Grant a Wish: $100 would cover program fees and refreshments for one event. $250 would cover rental costs of a facility. Gifts of any size would be welcome!

Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corporation www.flatrock.k12.in.us Wish 24: The school corporation is planning a day long field trip which focuses on environmental issues. The trip includes a special movie presentation at Yes Cinema and will conclude with a trip to Mill Race Park where additional environmental educational activities will be provided. Grant a Wish: $25 would help pay for the field trip and $200 would cover the cost of theater rental and transportation costs. Wish 25: Medication and supplies are needed for children without the financial resources to attain needed attention. Grant a Wish: Gifts from $25 - $400 would provide needed medication and supplies.
Gleaners Food Bank www.gleaners.org
Wish 26: Gleaners Food Bank is based in Indianapolis but provides the BackSacks program to Bartholomew County elementary school children who might otherwise go hungry over the weekends. Students are enrolled in the program by school personnel. During the 2012-2013 school year, 509 children in 12 elementary schools are receiving BackSacks each Friday. Grant a Wish: $20 will provide nutritious meals for a child over five weekends. $100 will rescue a child from weekend hunger for an entire semester. Grant a Wish: $200 will provide an elementary school student with weekend food for an entire school year. $1,000 would rescue five children from weekend hunger over the course of a school year.

Wish 27: The One Room School House provides a living history opportunity for local students. Students step back in time to the early 1900’s. Old fashioned games and toys, slates and slate pencils, pen and ink for writing, and other supplies as simple as paper are needed for the students to use when they visit. Supplies are needed to help replace aging items. Grant a Wish: Gifts ranging from $20 - $300 would help provide necessary funds to purchase supplies. Wish 28: Schools are finding it difficult to fund a trip to the Simmons One Room School. A scholarship fund has been created to enable schools to provide field trips to our facility and allow children to experience a unique educational experience. Grant a Wish: $95 would allow one class to experience the One Room School House.

Health Wishes *Hospice of South Central Indiana www.hospiceofsouthcentralindiana.org
Wish 29: Hospice provides medical care to individuals in their last phase of life as well as support to their families. The holiday season is a particularly difficult time for families with loved ones at the Inpatient Facility as well as those families involved in the bereavement program. Hospice staff and volunteers recognize the additional stresses and try to brighten the day by placing small Christmas items on patients’ food trays and providing small gifts to family members and individuals in the bereavement program. Grant a Wish: Gifts of $25 and up will allow Hospice to purchase gifts and bring a smile to a patient’s face.
Planned Parenthood of Indiana www.ppin.org
Wish 30: Planned Parenthood of Indiana (PPIN) provides educational sessions, such as “Let’s Talk” to help parents communicate more comfortably and effectively with their children. Other topics covered during these sessions include healthy relationships, safe dates and decreasing the risk of sexually transmitted diseases. Grant a Wish: $80 will cover the cost of one educational session. Each donation of $80 will provide money for an additional session. Wish 31: Planned Parenthood of Indiana would like to offer educational programming in Columbus using an evidence-based-curriculum to increase fatherhood skills developed by the National Fatherhood Initiative. Two program options would be offered - 24/7 Dads AM (focuses on basic skills) and 24/7 Dads PM (in-depth skills for teen/adult fathers and community at large). Every father enrolled in the program will receive a handbook to use as a resource. Grant a Wish: $45 will purchase five participant handbooks. Ten books could be purchased for $90.

Pregnancy Care Center (PCC) www.affiminglifeonline.org
Wish 32: The Pregnancy Care Center provides supportive services to pregnant women, at risk mothers and their children. Child safety is a program priority. PCC provides infant and toddler car seats to ensure children remain safe while traveling in a car. Grant a Wish: $30 will buy one car seat and ensure the safety of a child. Wish 33: The Pregnancy Care Center provides Pack-n-Play portable cribs at no cost to clients so families who otherwise cannot afford to buy a crib, can have a safe place for their baby to sleep. Grant a Wish: $60 will provide a pack-n-play crib for a new family.
Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) www.crh.org
Wish 34: Volunteers in Medicine provides medical care and services for low-income and uninsured adults. Educational DVDs in both English and Spanish are needed to augment facilitator led group education sessions for VIM patients with diabetes, high blood pressure and weight management issues. Grant a Wish: $129 will purchase one DVD for patient education. Two or more can be purchased for $99 each. 12 or more can be purchased for $89 each. A total of 13 will enable VIM to have a different educational topic for each month of the year for both English and Spanish language chronic disease clinics. Wish 35: Volunteers in Medicine needs a water filtration system for the clinic’s drinking fountain for patients and in the clinic’s break room for health care professionals and community volunteers. A filtration system will improve the quality of drinking water and will promote healthy choices. Grant a Wish: $250 will cover the cost to purchase and install a filter for the clinic’s drinking fountain. Social Services Wishes
Advocates for Children www.apowerfulvoice.org Wish 36: Advocates for Children provides a voice in the court system for abused and neglected children. These children have been removed from their homes and are dealing with change and uncertainty. Foster parents open their home to children in need but are unable to afford special trips and outings. Advocates for Children would like to provide opportunities for special trips and activities. Grant a Wish: $150 will buy a Disney on Ice Pass (family of five) OR a Zoo Pass (two adults and unlimited children). Wish 37: Craft Activities— To provide the opportunity for foster children to participate in special craft activities. Grant a Wish: $25 will provide one child an opportunity to participate in a craft activity at Build-A-Bear, Simply Pottery, or elsewhere.
Aging and Community Services www.agingandcommunityservices.org
Wish 38: Although there are a variety of programs available to assist senior citizens, a large waiting list looms. It is most worrisome when the waiting list contains people waiting for meals! As we enter the colder months, it becomes even more apparent that receiving a hot lunch Monday through Friday , and a personal well-being check by a trained member of the senior nutrition program, will help to keep seniors safely in their own homes for as long as possible. Grant a Wish: $35 will provide meals and wellness checks for a low-income senior citizen for one week, $150 would cover a month.
Columbus Youth Camp www.columbusyouthcamp.com FOUNDATION FOR YOUTH
Wish 39: Columbus Youth Camp (CYC) provides opportunities for children to experience outdoor recreational activities. During the summer CYC hosts the Exploration Day Camp. Each camper will hike, swim, shoot bow and arrows, play games, make new friends, and spend time with counselors who help shape their lives in a positive way. Unfortunately many kids have a hard time affording such a wonderful opportunity to learn, grow, and laugh. Grant a Wish: $100 will provide one child a week of camp. Wish 40: CYC also offers teen programs and would like to take groups of teens caving and allow them the opportunity to explore and push their boundaries in a safe setting. In order to begin these adventures, proper safety equipment is needed. Grant a Wish: $50 will provide one helmet and $500 will provide ten.

Community Center of Hope, Inc. (CCH) www.communitycenterofhope.org Wish 41: The Community Center of Hope provides a wide range of programs for area residents. A number of children are enrolled in the childcare center and the pre-school. In order to meet the needs of Pre-K and toddler children, a new stroller and tricycles are needed to enhance enjoyment for the children and allow easy transportation of toddlers for the caretakers. Grant a Wish: $170 would purchase one double stroller. Grant a Wish: $120 would purchase one tricycle. Wish 42: Many local seniors visit the Senior Center for social opportunities and lunch. Some of the equipment is worn and needs to be replaced. Grant a Wish: Gifts ranging from $25 - $75 would enable CCH to purchase a new coffee maker and tables for older residents of Hope.
*Family Self Sufficiency
Wish 43: Family Self Sufficiency works to empower and motivate economically disadvantaged individuals and parents to achieve personal economic independence. Many of these individuals have emergency needs that present a barrier to their success. Participants are often in need of work uniforms, shoes, gas, food, or household supplies. Grant a Wish: Gifts of $25 - $250 will help and assist local residents with the daily challenges they face. Wish 44: Families in need often have a difficult time gathering money to purchase new mattresses, pillows and blankets. Some of these families are dealing with bed bugs and lack the ability to replace aged and infested bedding. Grant a Wish: $100 would help purchase mattresses, blankets, and pillows for a family.

Wish 45: Family Services provides a variety of programs designed to strengthen family relationships and offer support through difficult circumstances. Family Life Education Class: teaches parents positive methods to communicate with their child. Participants work with a facilitator to create a parenting plan and learn how to implement the plan in their lives. Parents gain confidence in their parenting abilities and feel empowered which leads to a strengthening of the parent/child relationship. Grant a Wish: A gift of $140 dollars would provide a scholarship to enable a low income parent to attend a six week parenting class. Wish 46: Caring Parents: Trained volunteers visit new mothers in their homes to provide support and advice on caring for their baby during the first year. Many families enrolled in the program have limited childcare skills and need the additional support provided by their mentor. Volunteers provide reading materials and share information on the child’s next stage of development. Families also receive small educational and safety gifts at each visit. Gifts include first aid kits, cabinet locks, bathtub thermometers and tummy time floor blankets. Grant a Wish: Gifts from $50 to $250 would purchase a variety of baby items. Wish 47: The Counseling Program offers therapeutic support to adults, families and children from trained professionals. Counselors use a variety of tools including therapeutic games and books to build self-esteem and model positive behavior. Grant a Wish: Gifts ranging from $25 – $50 would enable Family Service to purchase books and games which would be used by a number of children and adults.

Wish 48: Foundation for Youth works with the Columbus Police Department to offer the PAAL program. Sport activities include, football, basketball and golf. With the increasing need of equipment and the number of kids participating in the PAAL programs, the amount of storage that is available is decreasing. To be able to add another 10ft x 10ft storage shed would be a huge help in keeping all equipment safe and readily available for teams and participants. Right now a lot of the equipment is being stored in 2-3 different locations and makes it tough to keep track of and in working condition. Grant a Wish: Gifts of $50 and up would help in the construction of the unit. $1,000 would completely fund the storage unit.

Horizon House, Inc. www.horizonhouse.cc Wish 49: Horizon House provides a home to approximately 30 homeless families each year while they work on self-sufficiency skills. When families are ready to move to their own home they are given an Exit Basket as a gift. Exit Baskets contain a number of household supplies including: detergent and softener, cleaning supplies and paper products. Grant a Wish: A gift of $30 would provide an Exit Basket for one family. Wish 50: Gas cards help to assist clients staying at Horizon House. The cards would be utilized for clients needing gas to go to work, drop children off at day care, and for medical appointments. Grant a Wish: $25 would help one family with transportation costs. Each additional gift of $25 would benefit an additional family.
Human Services – Head Start www.hsi-indiana.com
Wish 51: The Early Head Start program provides supportive services and childcare to at risk families with children under the age of three. Sleep sacks are needed to help keep babies in the Early Head Start program warm and safe. Babies cannot become entangled in the sleep sack due to its design as a wearable blanket. Sleep sacks wear out quickly from frequent laundering and need to be replaced. Grant a Wish: Gifts of $25 - $40 will purchase sleep sacks and keep a babies warm and safe when they sleep. Wish 52 The Head Start program works with families with children aged three – five. The program promotes literacy in children by giving them early exposure to books and literacy material. Books are needed for children and will be used in classrooms and also given to families to promote literacy in the home. Grant a Wish: $20 will purchase approximately 20 books for children to utilize at home and school.

Wish 53: Legal Aid - District Eleven provides legal assistance to low income Bartholomew County residents. One such means of assistance is to provide free legal aid to noncustodial parents to establish a relationship with their children, to assist in providing them parenting time rights with their children, and to set up child support so that their children are financially supported by both parents. However, in order to initiate a legal action, these noncustodial parents must pay a filing fee that starts at a minimum of $150 Grant a Wish: $150 would pay the costs for a parent to file a Petition to Establish Paternity, a Petition to Establish Support, or a Petition to Establish Parenting Time.

Wish 54 Just about daily, Lincoln-Central Neighborhood Family Center (LCNFC) is called upon to assist with Emergency Needs neighborhood residents are experiencing. Sometimes these require financial assistance that is not available through other means. LCNFC uses funds in its Emergency Needs fund to help with medical co-pays, provide work uniforms/boots, pay gasoline for out-oftown medical treatments, head lice shampoo, essentials following fires, technical school supplies and more. Grant a Wish: $25-$200 per household depending on circumstances. $40 provides a coat for a child. A $50 gas card can help a family get back and forth to the hospital. The impact can be great. When a family is in the midst of a crisis, sometimes a small helping hand can bring hope to darkest times. Wish 55: Help us stock the shelves! LCNFC operates a Cleaning Supply Showroom and Tool Lending Library (collaboration with Housing Partnerships, Inc.). Neighborhood residents can receive three cleaning supplies per month to help maintain their homes. The shelves quickly empty and staff is faced with disappointed neighbors hoping to keep up their homes. Gifts can be used to purchase these hot-in-demand cleaning supplies. Additional tools are needed for the Tool Lending Library. Neighbors can borrow tools to help with exterior maintenance projects around their home. Not only does this spruce up their property, but can cause a ripple effect in the neighborhood. Grant a Wish: $30 will provide supplies for four households for a one-month period. Tools for the Library range in price from $25 and up. Sprucing up one’s home inside and out can improve self-esteem for the entire family.

Wish 56: Mill Race Center membership provides access to hundreds of quality programs and experiences each year. Participation in activities gives those ages 50+ a positive outlook that boosts good health. The goal of Mill Race Center is to make all programs and services accessible to all. The opportunity for socialization and a hot meal is important, especially for low-income seniors. Membership sponsorship allows someone, who may otherwise not afford it, access to a wide range of activities and programs. Grant a Wish: $40 provides Mill Race Center membership for a low-income senior for one full year. Wish 57: Mill Race Center offers dynamic and diverse activities throughout the year. Some of the activities such as the Partners in Education (PIE) program require additional fees. Grant a Wish: $25 to $50 allows a member, who might not otherwise afford it, to participate in an activity. Program sponsorship of $100 to $250 allows Mill Race Center to continue to offer high quality programming.

Wish 58: The Arc of Bartholomew County provides resources, assistance, and information to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. In this effort, many graduating high school students with disabilities find it difficult transitioning into the work force. The Arc provides a transitional planner to clients upon graduating to help with this difficult time. Grant a Wish: $40 will purchase one planner for a graduating senior. Wish 59: Children with disabilities such as Autism face many developmental and educational issues. Specialized developmental toys can be expensive. The Arc has created a lending library for families to share and utilize toys and educational software. Grant a Wish: Gifts of $25 and above will help purchase developmental toysand supplies for the lending library.

Wish 60: Love Chapel provides food, financial and housing assistance to families in need. During the holiday season we provide a “Holiday Food Basket” to households registered through 211 that are not receiving food from any other organization. Included in that food basket is a Ham, Turkey or Gift Certificate ($20) for the purchase of meat. Grant a Wish: $20 will impact one household and $100 will provide for approximately five households. The gift will also allow a gift card to be included in their “Holiday Food Basket”. Wish 61: 100 pillows. In the past year at least 100 pillows have been provided to those needing to stay in temporary overnight accommodations. Each time a new individual/family is provided overnight accommodations, a new pillow is provided. When they leave, the pillow becomes theirs. Grant a Wish: $400-$500 will provide clean and sanitary pillows for every person staying overnight. Gifts in increments of $20 - $25 would be welcome.

Wish 62: Sans Souci provides clothes and basic essentials to low-income families and individuals recovering from emergency situations. Blankets are an essential item to have for the cold winter months. Many people have insufficient means of heating their home and blankets can help keep them warm. Grant a Wish: $30 would purchase two blankets and provide two families added warmth for the cold winter months. Wish 63: The Sans Souci store offers a selection of gently used clothes that families can select from. It aims to provide all children with new socks and underwear. Wish 64: Su Casa provides supportive services to low-income Spanish speaking adults and families. Su Casa operates on a very limited budget and needs to purchase a fax machine. The fax machine will allow customers to send and receive important documents. In many cases these individuals do not normally have access to this service due to language barriers. Grant a Wish: $150 will provide funds to purchase a fax machine. Wish 65: Su Casa provides English as a Second Language classes to local residents who speak Spanish. Local residents who learn English as a second language are better able to contribute and articulate their needs and concerns in the community. There is a need for classroom equipment such as a dry erase board. Grant a Wish: $200 will buy a dry erase board and allow students to begin learning English. Gifts in increments of $25 would be welcome.

Wish 66: Turning Point provides temporary and safe residential services for victims of domestic violence. Due to the recent reports of bed bug infestations nationwide and the number of adults and children using the shelter, replacing mattresses covers with commercial-use, bedbug resistant covers has become a necessity. Turning Point needs a set of covers for each bed. Grant a Wish: $100 would purchase a set of bed bug resistant covers consisting of a mattress cover and pillow cover. $550 would purchase cover sets for the entire shelter. Wish 67: A home “Start-Up Kit” is given to clients who are leaving the shelter and establishing a new home. Each Kit includes about 20 items such as a mop and bucket, scrub brush, window cleaner, paper towels, toilet brush and cleaner, broom and dust pan, multi-purpose cleaners, toilet paper, a shower curtain, cleaning towels and sponges, dish soap, kitchen towels, bath towels and washcloths – all packaged in a new laundry basket. Grant a Wish: $50 would create a “Start-Up Kit.”

Wish 68: United Way 2-1-1 maintains a database of programs and resources available to community residents. It provides the first call of help for individuals needing help and assistance. United Way aims to promote 2-1-1 services through professional, eye appealing displays at community events. An example of this would be to include 2-1-1 information in new employee packets/orientation. This information would be extremely helpful for families struggling with life issues.
