What do the ribbons mean? n Blue is awarded to entries that exceed the average standard. Blue may be given to multiple participants. n Red is awarded to entries that meet the average standard or are slightly below. The general level of accomplishment meets expectations but is less than excellent. n White is awarded to entries that do not meet average standard. n Green is awarded when required components are missing from the exhibit. For instance, in a clothing project requiring three pieces for “separates,” only two pieces are exhibited.

n One Reserve Champion, or lavender ribbon, is selected for each division of a project category. Reserve Champion is the “second place” in the division. n Orange, or honorable mention, is awarded to projects that exceed standards and are of champion quality, but were not chosen as the champion or reserve champion. n One Grand Champion is selected for each project category, among the Champion awards. n One Reserve Grand Champion is selected for each project category — the “second place.”

n One Champion, or purple ribbon, is selected for each division of a project category, from among the blue ribbons. ON THE COVER: Mia Bryce leads her sheep through its show paces at the 2016 Brown County 4-H Fair. | photo by Pebbles Bailey
