The Library welcomes award-winning author, Shannon Baker, for an author visit on Wednesday, September 21. Shannon lives on the edge of the Tucson desert with her crazy Weimaraner and her favorite human. Her southwest series delivers a gripping new thriller adventure. Details for her presentation are under Coming Events on page 11.

On your next visit to the Library, check out our new official quilt on the door. Make sure you look closely for the many famous authors’ names hiding in the fabric. A heartfelt thank you to our library volunteer, Carol Guibert, for creating and gifting this to our community library.

Cleaning Gym Equipment Before and After Your Workout

In the modern age, people have become a little more conscious when it comes to cleaning gym equipment and disinfecting it when they are finished using it. Whether you’re going to a fitness class in person or using the equipment, the equipment needs to be cleaned after each workout.

If you are in a gym with other people, it is common courtesy to clean the equipment for a variety of reasons. Nobody wants to share sweat. Even if you are the only one who is going to use the equipment, you should definitely wipe it down. Using your wipes, try to get all the awkward areas such as nooks and crannies, as well as the seams around the seat. Also focus on any area of high contact.

Special Note From the Aquatic and Fitness Center (AFC)

Contact Lonnie Davis, AFC Coordinator, to discuss questions or concerns with the AFC. Hours of operation for the AFC and Desert Oasis are on page 2.

Tuesday, September 13, the AFC pool and spa will be closed for cleaning and shock treatment and will reopen the following morning at the regular time.

Wednesday, September 14, the Desert Oasis pool will be closed for cleaning and shock treatment and will reopen the following morning at the regular time.

Tuesday, September 27, the AFC spa will be closed for cleaning until 1 PM.

Architectural Review Jim Cherry 612-805-5637 ARC@suncityorovalley.com Zoom meetings Second and Fourth Tue., 2 PM

Planning to build an addition or put up a patio cover? Then Policy ARC-006 is there to guide you through the approval process. For specific guidance, go to the website; Members > Documents > Policies and scroll to pages 27-74.The policy covers two paths:

If you want to build within the “Solid Green Lines” for your model, then follow the “Pre-Qualified Concept Application” process. An ARC review can lead to 100-ft. neighbor letters being issued and the formal committee review once the letter process is complete.

If you want to build outside the “Solid Green Lines,” the “Concept Application” process is the first step. Complete the application form, your plot plan and a sketch outlining your thoughts. You do not need architects and contractors. The ARC will come out to review your idea, assess visibility risks, lot setbacks, roof lines and drainage. They can also share what others have done in the past.

Leverage the ARC to assist with your planning phase.

Artisan Center Renovation Task Force See SCOV calendar for meeting dates, time and location

The Artisan Center Renovation Task Force (ACRTF) meets the first and third Tuesdays of the month as needed. The SCOV website will have current agendas and minutes of meetings. An updated version of “A Discussion of the Existing and Future Facility Requirements for the Artisan Clubs of SCOV” is available on the SCOV website.

Community Directory Chair Blythe Campbell 907-717-7546 scov.community.directory@gmail.com www.scovaz.com/members/services/directory

If you move within SCOV, your old directory listing is removed. Why? Many people own more than one house here. Sometimes this is temporary while the owner buys a new house and sells the old one. Others are permanent and used as rentals or bought for rehab and resale. All new owners are unlisted by default, even if you were listed at your old address. You can update your listing at any time by completing the online form, “To change your directory listing.”

Are you a new resident? Check your new owner emails from SCOV for information about how to list your information in the online and printed directories. In addition to names, landline and mobile phone numbers, addresses and email addresses, we can list your hometown and occupation. We don’t list “retired” as that’s the case for most SCOV residents.

Vendors should email Susanna Moran to inquire about applying to be on the Vendor List.

Finance-Budget Quarterly Zoom meetings on Mondays. Check SCOV calendar for dates and times.

Food and Beverage Chair Bob Landis landisrc@gmail.com Next meeting Thu., Sep. 1, 2 PM, WC3

Managing a restaurant is not easy, and during the last few years it has become even more difficult because of Covid, supply and labor shortages and inflation. While there have been some bumpy roads for The Views Restaurant during this time, it is important to point out that (1) The Views has remained open when many like establishments closed or went out of business, (2) Prices have remained constant, (3) Entertainment has remained at a high level and (4) Wine and home supplies (e.g., tissue paper) were made available for purchase.

During the coming months, the Food and Beverage Committee will focus on ways for the community to participate in The Views Restaurant with a focus on continuing to enhance the quality of service in the restaurant and lounge.

New homeowners may not be aware, but SCOV has a wonderful Library in the Welcome Center. Use of the Library is part of your HOA amenities. Our Library contains current fiction and nonfiction books, DVDs, audio books, puzzles and magazines. Most of these items are purchased thanks to the generous support of Friends of the Library (FOL). FOL started with about 400 members in 2016 and has almost doubled in size since then. To join FOL and keep our Library growing, pick up a form in the Library. Membership is $15/sgl or $20/family. Becoming a Friend will not only help purchase items, but will allow you to attend exclusive FOL events and be the first to be able to buy tickets to the popular annual Home Tour.

Check Coming Events for information about our exciting Book Bingo.

Featured artists this month are Ken Rosburg and Charlotte Landis.

Settling in SCOV in 2018, Ken found his second home in the Wood Shop. After discovering a six-point-star design on paper, he figured out how to cut twelve triangles of exotic and domestic woods and fashion them into a star. The result was a beautiful tissue box cover. His works include clocks, coasters, wine glass covers and charcuterie boards, incorporating his star and rosette designs. Ken Rosburg 7
