As the end of 2022 approaches, the Neighborhood Pride Committee wishes you a most happy holiday season. Eighteen years have passed since our committee was formed, and our community looks absolutely beautiful. As a community, we should indeed feel proud of the way we look, not only to neighbors and ourselves, but also to those individuals who visit with the thought in mind to buy and move here. We sincerely thank you for your cooperation in helping to make SCOV such a wonderful place in which to live. Enjoy the holidays, your families, your friends and neighbors, and especially our beautiful community.

Seasonal residents are returning, and we’re delighted to see them. As it’s getting dark earlier, check your outdoor lights to make sure they’re working. Your house lights are very important for emergency personnel. You may have friends and family over for the holidays, and lighting helps them find your house and see their way to your front door.
The Posse board wishes everyone a very safe and happy holiday season. Join our ranks and support our community. For information, contact Linda Simōn.

We hope you’ve noticed the refreshed signs at SCOV buildings. The large signs with the brown background and white letters were looking tired. The brown steel background panels on the signs weathered, faded and oxidized over the years. Jack Evert, working on behalf of the Properties Committee, coordinated the effort to restore the signs including contractor selection, scope of work and project monitoring. Several solutions were considered, and the decision was made to remove the letters and background panels, refurbish or replace them, and then reassemble them on site. The light shades on some of the signs also oxidized and will be removed, powder coated and replaced. The refurbished signs look considerably better and present a clean, refreshed appearance to our residents, guests and prospective home owners. The Properties Committee works on a variety of tasks like this during the year. Our recent meetings have been in person and via Zoom. Please see the calendar on the SCOV website for scheduled meeting dates, times and meeting format. Sun City Oro Valley Tipster, December 2022

Season’s greetings to you and your family. We hope you had a great Thanksgiving and wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year! We are grateful for you and are thinking of you during the holiday season. We would like to tell you how much we appreciate your support and look forward to the new year.
Before the year is over, we do not want you to miss the annual Pro Shop sale. Our special holiday sale will be Friday, December 9. You can pick up that perfect gift or a gift card for the holidays.
Also, our Annual Christmas Toy Drive is from Friday, December 2 through Sunday, December 11. We are collecting toys for local kids and families in need. If you bring a guest during this week with a toy(s) valued over $40, your guest plays for free. Any toy(s) and food donations are welcome, whether playing golf or not. We appreciate your kind and generous contributions and support over the years.
As a reminder, the Pro Shop closes at 2 PM on Saturday, December 24, and will be closed Sunday, December 25, to allow our team to spend time with their families.
However, if you have a private cart and would like to play golf on Christmas Day, you are more than welcome. There will be no scheduled starting times. Also, the driving range is available to hit practice balls if you have a prepaid range card. On New Year’s Eve, the Pro Shop will close at 2 PM and will be open normal hours on New Year’s Day.
We again wish you a wonderful holiday season and a happy New Year!

December is historically the time of year when the temperatures get cold enough to start having frost. Here is a reminder on what frost does to the grass and procedures to follow when a delay occurs. Walking or driving on frosted grass causes damage to green leaf tissue, which eventually leads to the grass dying. When the non-overseeded areas go dormant and turn brown, they are no longer susceptible to frost damage, but the overseeded fairways and tees may be 9
damaged. If the temperature is cold, but the frost is not that bad, we might not have a delay, but instead the golf carts could be restricted to the cart path for a determined amount of time. If the frost is more severe, the delay will reflect the earliest time the golf course can be prepared for golf and ready for play to start. It depends on whether greens need to be mowed or pins need setup.
Additional reminders: The driving range tee and chipping area have overseeded grasses, so they will also be impacted during a frost delay. Please don’t walk or drive on these areas while waiting for the frost delay to end. The Pro Shop will be notified when the practice facilities are ready for use.
This year the Association phone system was changed, which resulted in losing the dedicated frost line. Currently, the Pro Shop will be informed of any delays or cart path restrictions, and they will send an email alerting golfers of the delay.

Happy holidays, fellow linksters. It’s December, and although there’s snow on the mountains, there’s lush green grass and outstanding conditions at The Views Golf Course. The Views 18-Hole Men’s Golf Club is in full swing (no pun intended), but it’s never too late to come and join in the fun and friendly competition. We’re always looking for new members to join us for our weekly play. Every week offers a different event ranging from individual play to four-man teams. If you are interested in joining, please contact our membership chair, Dean Silverlock, to sign up. This month’s helpful tip: “Playing a shot from an impossible lie is never a good idea. Take the drop, hit the shot and move on.” –“Sweet” Lou DenBoer, c.1980

Merry Christmas from the Men’s Nine-Hole Club. For those of you who attended the meeting and Burger Bash on November 10, we hope you enjoyed yourself and won a raffle prize.
If you have been sitting on the fence about whether to join, give us a try. There are some nice benefits for belonging to the Nine-Hole Club. You are guaranteed a game on Thursday mornings, and playing nine holes only takes a couple of hours. The club has a full spectrum of player skills with no one person having a low handicap. We have a good time, and the team pairings for the Thursday games allow for prize money to be awarded to several teams. The ante to play is only $4, but the camaraderie and the beauty of the course are awards all by themselves. Come join us.

The Catalina Cup is a gross and net match play competition between 11 local golf clubs. Matches take place between October and May. Six team members are divided into three flights by handicap and sent from each of the participating clubs to play one another at a different host course. The hosting club does not play. One point is awarded on each hole for low gross and one point for low net. Ties earn one-half point. Points accumulate over the season to determine the overall Catalina Cup winner, as well as the low gross and low net winning teams.
The Views Golf Club will host the Catalina Cup Monday, December 5. Captains Darlene Lamb and Tana Wyrick are looking for volunteers to help with registration and spotting on certain holes. If you can help, notify Darlene dslamb48@ gmail.com or Tana tana_wyrick@hotmail.com.

The Lady Niners are off to a great start. We welcome new members and are reestablishing some of our social traditions that were restricted during the pandemic. Games are set up for Thursday morning play, and we celebrate the winners of the games, birdies and holes-in-one. It’s not too late to join our group. We are serious golfers who play by the rules, but there’s a place for everyone. If interested, contact Carol Johnson, membership chair.
