Did you know that your Association dues don’t pay for the wonderful books, videos and audio books you check out of our Library? Your donations and membership to Friends of the Library (FOL) fund these purchases. Not only do we support the Library, but we provide wonderful events for members and the whole community.

Here’s a teaser of what’s to come this season. The Library will present authors Wynne Brown and Leo Banks in December and Anne Hillerman in January.

Have your gifts beautifully wrapped by FOL

Let us do the giftwrapping. Bring your gifts on December 14, 19 and 20, and we’ll wrap them for a donation to FOL. Our monthly Book Bingo is Wednesday, December 21. Having children visit this holiday season? We will have special Storytimes for the little ones December 29 and 31. Our second Great Reads for FOL members will happen on Monday, January 23.

Due to supply chain issues that have impacted SCOV homes undergoing renovation, there won’t be a Home Tour in 2023. Look for the return of our biggest fundraiser, a new and improved Home Tour, in 2024. For more information on all these wonderful events closer to the dates, call, check Coming Events and “This Week in SCOV.”

Gifts to help you prepare for the holiday season are abundant. Visit during our open house to browse and join the raffle for the window displays. December featured artists are Mary Murck and Linda Wilkes.

Mary enjoyed art projects when young, discovering clay work in her 40s. She took wheel throwing lessons; then her job became too busy and she stopped creating. Returning to clay in retirement, the pieces made by hand are her favorites. Her work is both utilitarian and decorative. “I love angels and birds, drawing my own folk art and whimsical designs.”

Linda’s mother-in-law encouraged her to begin making jewelry. Linda said, “I love creating a new piece of jewelry from looking at the colors of clothing, flowers and floral bouquets. I design with trendy or classic themes, fun or romantic moods. I also created a personal design I call Dimensionz. When you see the design, it appears to be somewhat dimensional.”

On Thursday, November 3, 40 members of the community attended our second Coffee with a Cop event. The Oro Valley Police Department Command Staff sat with the attendees and had one-on-one conversations over coffee.

Due to the success of the event, the Government Affairs committee will work with the department to establish a repeating schedule for these events. The committee is working on future events including forums with the police chief, the mayor and members of the town council. What events would you like to see? You are welcome to attend our monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of each month. You can also share your thoughts with us at our email address scovga@gmail.com.

Loan Room - Community Assistance Chair Gay Russell Third Thu., 3 PM, WC1 (currently not meeting) Loan Room hours: Tue., Thu., 8-9 AM www.suncityorovalley.com/members/services/loan-room/

The Loan Room has been busier this fall and, with Christmas here soon, many residents have visitors coming. The Loan Room has extra beds for adults and children (mattresses for both), some children’s toys, safety items and tables and chairs. Since this is also a time when residents schedule elective surgery, you many need walkers, canes, crutches and bathroom items. You may make reservations up to two months in advance of a need either at the Loan Room or on the website. Please bring your SCOV card with you when you come in. We cannot use the fob in our system. We are open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-9 AM, and are located at the end of the Cart Barn. We hope to see you soon. Please remember, we are not affiliated with the Costume Closet. See For Your Information on page 13 for their hours.
