Hello women of SCOV. Praying you have all been experiencing a great summer. Those of us who stayed in town were witness to the wettest July in Tucson since 1894. What an awesome show of God’s power in the monsoon storms and much needed rain. We are so excited to begin a short, nine-weeks study of the book of Philippians, “How to Have Joy!” How do I live the Christian life joyfully regardless of people or circumstances? What is the purpose of suffering? Do I have the mind of Christ? Discover true, deep-down joy in your life that the world cannot take away. Our study will be Wednesdays, October 6 to December 8, with the week of Thanksgiving off. If you are new to SCOV or just have questions, call Elaine Farmer. Genealogy Pres. The first in-person meeting of the Sun City Vistoso Genealogy Society will be on Monday, October 11, 1 PM, Catalina Vista. Please note this is a new day and place to accommodate the Activity Center renovation. One of our favorite speakers, Peggy Laurentzen, will be presenting a program entitled “Away, I’m Bound Away! – Migrations Into the Shenandoah Valley.” Different groups of immigrants traveled into the Shenandoah Valley, including German, ScotsIrish and Quakers. Remember, you never know where you will find a new ancestor. The club meeting is open to guests.
The Genealogy Library is open based on the schedule published on the club calendar at www.scvgs.org. Please check the calendar for days and hours that the library is available. If you are interested in checking out the library or just need some help acquainting yourself with the resources available, contact Holly Gibson to schedule a visit.

Our club gives members an opportunity for lively discussions of challenging ideas raised by our short selections from a very wide range of texts. We jump from classic essays on politics or philosophy to stimulating contemporary fiction. We will resume meeting Wednesday, October 6, with a Zoom discussion of Raymond Carver’s “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love.” After that, we hope to be back in person at Catalina Vista. Members are reminded to look over the possible selections for subsequent meetings. Newcomers can contact Barbara or Maryfaith for more information.
