Vistoso Cyclists membership is only $15/year, hard to believe, given we are one of the best cycling clubs for seniors in the nation. Aside from the rides, our members enjoy our very useful website, including a searchable member directory, club classifieds, online ride schedule, cycling resources and more.
We offer several hundred scheduled rides year-round, among four different ride subgroups, from 20-60+ miles, to cafe destinations within Tucson and nearby towns, utilizing both pathways and roadways. Occasional away rides are offered as well. Our cafe stops offer coffee and conversation, greatly enjoyed by our members.
The club has e-bike, mountain biking, and Women on Wheels subgroups. There’s also our monthly club newsletter emai.
All schedules can be found within the excellent member area of our website. We also host social events, and support both the Interfaith Community Services Food Bank and Wheels for Kids. For more information or to join, visit our website.

As we enter the fall/winter season, we look forward to seeing our current and former members and welcoming new members. We are planning a series of activities and events to help us get back to our pre-Covid spirit, so stay tuned for further details. These will include billiards training clinics with a professional player, billiards trick shot demonstrations, weekly round-robin tournaments, our club championship and our annual friendly tournament with the SaddleBrooke club. Look for upcoming emails as well as announcements and sign-up sheets on the club bulletin board. See you soon. The Cooper’s hawk is probably the most common of the three hawks most often seen in SCOV. It is in a family of medium- sized hawks with long tails. Its size and long tail make it very maneuverable and Steve Holmes photo adept at grabbing smaller birds and mammals. Fairly common in most of the states, it is quite often seen stalking bird feeders looking for a snack.
We are a 90+ member, activity-oriented group and all SCOV residents are invited to join us on our field trips to learn more about the birds here in Arizona. Below is a list of upcoming bird outings. If you are interested in going on any of these, be sure to contact the trip coordinator for details at least three days in advance and ask to be added to our mailing list. • Thursday, December 2, Gilbert Water Ranch,

Gun Club Bill Snead 425-246-8100 wgsnead@gmail.com Meetings suspended until further notice
Dear Gun Club friends: We look forward to reviving our club from Covid-imposed down time and scarcity of officers.
We have new people who have expressed interest in the club, and we have new developments from Supreme Court cases to consider.
We have an existing list of members, but it needs to be updated so we can send a notice of a January meeting. If you are new to SCOV, or newly interested in the club, please send Bill Snead an email at wgsnead@gmail.com to be added to the list.

Mileage patch awardees. Photo by Meg Gerken
Our annual fall picnic was held November 2 at Catalina State Park. We went on our choice of hikes, reconnected with old friends, met new friends, shared laughs, ate Baggins sandwiches and applauded as 31 people were awarded patches for miles walked with our club. The highest award went to Jack Evert with 4,500 miles or the distance equivalent of Tucson to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska.
Join us for our annual New Year’s Eve celebration. On December 31, we’ll be of good cheer as we go on one of several offered hikes, drink something hot to ring in 2022 and eat goodies to replace those calories lost hiking, all while solving a puzzle. See our website at www.scovhiking.org/menu for more information about this event, the variety of hikes we offer throughout the month and how to join our club. and spouses who signed up to attend the event. Couples even dressed up for the occasion. We are looking forward to our yearly meeting in January and spring party in April.

With the return of many of our POP Tennis seasonal residents, there has been plenty of activity on the Desert Oasis courts. We also have been able to play after dark thanks to the Tennis Club allowing us to utilize Court 6 at the Mountain Vista complex. We really appreciate their generosity. We are enjoying the weather and getting lots of exercise mixed with laughter and camaraderie. If you’d like to give it a try, stop by the DO and we’ll show you the basics. Racquetball Pres. Hello fun. Welcome men and women. No experience necessary. Bring your own equipment. Easy to learn. The more you play, the better you get. Did you know seniors 70 and older pitch from a shorter distance with less effort and more accuracy? The shorter distance also makes the game more fun for women. YouTube has several videos of everything related to horseshoes. Check it out.

The Pickleball Club enjoyed an Octoberfest and welcome back party at Catalina Vista on October 22. Because of the construction of the Activity Center, the event was held here. Three different kinds of bratwurst were served with sauerkraut, potato salad and soft pretzels. Desserts were German chocolate brownies and apple pie. There was even live music with an accordion player. Everyone had a good time, and it was good to see members again after 1½ years of absence. Attendance has increased for table tennis while room availability has decreased. Many other clubs are now using rooms that were originally designated for table tennis. As a result, our schedule for play fluctuates considerably and it is recommended that players call Catalina Vista at 520-8258613 to make sure rooms are available the day they want to play.
Please note that Tuesdays from 1:30-3:30 PM are now reserved for women. There is no table tennis on the first Tuesday of every month. All other days are for both men and women. Thanks for your understanding December Schedule

Two fun events with a large turnout occurred in October, a welcome back mixed doubles and social on October 24 and ladies’ round robin and luncheon on October 27
The club’s annual meeting and holiday party will be held on Sunday, December 5.
After being canceled in 2021, the club is excited to announce that the Aztlan de Pueblo High School’s Mariachi Band will present a concert Sunday, January 16, 2 PM, at the Vistoso Community Church. For more details, see Coming Events on page 13.

Happy holidays from the Wallyball Club
Wallyball is volleyball that you play in a racquetball court. We use the side wall during play. You cannot hit the ceiling or back walls during a serve and play. We can have anywhere from three to five players on a side. Some benefits of wallyball are the same as regular volleyball: It helps to burn off calories, builds and tones muscles, improves mental health, builds coordination, balance and speed, and increases aerobic ac-
tivity.
Come out to the AFC/Gym and see if this game is for you. Men and women are welcome to play and tryouts are encouraged to see if this is the right game for you. We set up and socialize at 12:45 PM; games start at 1 PM. Questions, call or email one of our officers. Play safe and play smart. Water Volleyball Pres. Keeping the ball in play
December, how can that be? The year has flown by, people getting back to somewhat normal; clubs are trying to find space for their events. We are so lucky to still have the Desert Oasis pool for our games three days a week. Keeping the club up and running has not been easy, having to work under some difficult rules, but we prevailed. Water volleyball is played year-round and the pool is well-heated. Give it a try, or at least come and watch these sometimes wild and boisterous games, especially the competitive play on Mondays. Our annual meeting/Christmas/holiday party is Friday, December 10. Note the correction from the November Tipster that had the wrong day. Mea culpa. Members will be notified as to the time and menu decision.
