Pathways Courses

The Student Voice at East Sussex College is central to providing an exceptional student experience.

ESC Minifest 2023

To ensure a representative Students’ Voice, each course group, including adult, apprentices and international students, elect two Course Representatives. Course Representatives represent the views of their fellow students at both the campus-based students councils and their relevant course area curriculum feedback meetings.

The Student Voice also includes:

Students’ Union -

All post 16-year-old students at East Sussex College are automatically members of the National Union of Students (NUS) and as such, members of the College’s Students’ Union.

Students’ Governors -

Student Governors are elected to both the College’s campus-based Local Governing Boards and the College’s Main Governing Board. The role of the Student Governor is different to that of the Course Representative who is required to represent the views of their respective groups. Student Governors provide a student voice, their voice, to the College governing body and respective governance meetings.

Student Experience & Enrichment.

Our students can participate in a wide range of clubs, societies, competitions, trips, awareness raising activities and social events alongside their studies.

Our enrichment programmes help our students to develop awareness and skills to support your next steps into further study or work.

Look out for information on the clubs running when you start with us. We’ve had film clubs, book clubs, debate clubs, photography clubs, art clubs, an LGBTQ+ space, sport clubs, music clubs, and many more! Is there something you would like to take part in? Form your own club - it’s a surefire way to meet like-minded people and do something that interests you!

Inclusivity and diversity are core values of East Sussex College.

The College has dedicated multi-faith prayer rooms for use by both staff and students. The rooms offer a quiet space for prayer and reflection. Staff and students attending the College follow many different faiths or none, and come from a wide variety of cultural and religious backgrounds. There are also a variety of faith unions that you can become a part of.

Sport Academies.

Our Sports Academy programme aims to provide opportunities at the highest level of sporting performance. Our Academies enable talented athletes to receive high level coaching and competition alongside their studies.

Our Sports Academies include football, netball, athletics, basketball, rugby, gym and badminton to name a few!

We encourage and support our Sports Academy students to compete regularly in national competitions and we are proud that a number of high-level sports performers attend East Sussex College! Some of them have made the move from college to professional sports teams, including professional football clubs.

Students have access to some of the best sporting facilities within the South East. Across our campuses, these include a fullsize 3G football pitch, large indoor sports halls, an athletics track, and state-of-the art gymnasiums. Our sports enrichment programme takes full advantage of these facilities, and in particular our growth in our football academy provision where students use the gym to help with their strength and conditioning.

Skiltek Sport Partnership

East Sussex College works in partnership with Skiltek Sport, our official football academy provider, to provide a fun and engaging environment for students and helps to give them an opportunity for progression in sport.

There have been numerous examples of students going from the academy into the professional game, most notably ESC Hastings’ Jack Bates who joined Derby County in July 2022 and Benn Ward who signed for Premier League new boys Burnley in the 2020/21 season.

In addition, the Sport department at ESC Eastbourne is introducing a number of new courses to make use of the fantastic, state-of-theart gym facilities at Eastbourne Sports Park.

Music Centre of Excellence.

Choose to study at our Eastbourne or Lewes campuses and become immersed in creativity. Whether your music style is contemporary or classic, at ESC you will get the opportunity to work alongside like-minded musicians, under the guidance of expert tutors, all of whom have industry experience.

Our recording studios are also furnished with the latest equipment. You will be encouraged to work with peers across our variety of music courses, to give you the best experience and multiple opportunities to develop your career.
