Key facts

Inclusive Learning at ESC has been designed to support and challenge young people aged 16 - 24 with SEND. Our ethos is to put our students first in everything that we do to ensure that they reach their personal goals and learning outcomes.

Our specialist team of curriculum, therapy and support staff work closely with each young person and their family to plan an individual pathway and set goals.

Our courses are intended to prepare young people for adulthood and start them on a pathway to life, independence, and the world of work.

Inclusive Learning has dedicated facilities to provide the best possible environment to support a student’s learning and includes a therapy area, personal care room and sensory space.

Maths, English & Digital Skills

Students will be supported and challenged to improve their Maths and English skills as part of their programme and will be able to take a Functional Skills qualification if it is appropriate for them. Our students will also be able to improve their digital skills by exploring the technology and social media which will support them in their adult life. If you haven’t achieved a grade 4 or above in Maths and English then you will study these subjects alongside your college courses. Maths and English are relevant to all courses and future learning opportunities.

Each student will have a personalised plan which will support their development of independent living and social and communication skills.

Each student will achieve a qualification and will have opportunities to take part in enterprise events, a work placement and/or voluntary work in the local community. Students will develop their communication and teamwork which they will need for the world of work.

Step-Up

Step-Up provides a natural progression route from Steps enabling students to further develop their employability skills, work experience through Enterprise projects, social and personal development, and the opportunity to achieve the next level of a qualification. This will continue to be a nurturing learning environment for students who may have an educational health and care plan and/or a range of disabilities or social needs. Small learning groups which promote further independence through ownership and encouragement to broaden aspirations, will enable students to progress into the world of work or a chosen full-time curriculum course.

Preparation for Training & Work

Preparation for training and work supports and challenges young people who may have an education, health, and care plan or disabilities to prepare them for the world of work. A dedicated staff team of job coaches and mentors will support and prepare young people for the workplace, whilst enabling them to access work placements, voluntary work and work related experiences at college and in the local community. Students successfully progress onto a Supported Internship or further training, gaining the skills, knowledge, and behaviours which they need for work.
