Bayards helipads All Bayards helipads have three essential things in common: they provide safe, easy and fast access. By completing (existing) buildings with an aluminium helipad, one can significantly increase its accessibility and efficiency. Even though every situation is unique, we are able to develop the optimal solution to suit our client’s most demanding requirements. We achieve this by combining the excellent properties of aluminium with our designs, engineering expertise and cutting edge production technology. This results in helipads that are: • Lightweight • Durable • Maintenance free • Cost-effective • Easy to install • Aesthetically pleasing

Why an aluminium helipad? From high speed trains to aerospace applications: the versatility of aluminium is endless. The advantageous properties of aluminium provide us with the engineering flexibility necessary to create lightweight structures. When exposed to the elements, aluminium naturally forms an oxide layer which protects the underlying aluminium, reforming immediately when damaged. Due to its corrosion resistant properties, aluminium is an extremely durable material and it lasts throughout the design life of the building without any maintenance being required. Thanks to our extensive knowledge of aluminium and the endless possibilities of the material, we are able to develop premium tailored solutions for each client, in any industry: • Royal London Hospital in London, United Kingdom • Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, Australia • Fiero Milano exhibition centre in Milan, Italy • Fira de Barcelona exhibition centre in Barcelona, Spain • University Hospital Dresden in Dresden, Germany

The benefits of a Bayards Solution For the past 50 years we have developed our expertise and made optimal use of the versatile and natural properties of aluminium. This has enabled us to successfully design, engineer, manufacture and install more than 600 helicopter landing platforms all over the world. It is safe to say that we have an unrivalled position when it comes to providing state-of-the-art turnkey helipads, which makes Bayards your go-to partner for safe, efficient and costeffective helipad solutions. Due to the lightweight property of aluminium, we are able to develop helipads that are up to 50% lighter than the more common, high maintenance steel helipads, so one can only imagine the weight saving when compared to concrete helipads. It is possible to install our helipads on practically any existing building without, or with very limited structural reinforcements being required. In addition, our helipads are resistant to the urban environment, which means that they have an extremely long lifespan without the need for an expensive maintenance plan.

The possibilities No matter the client’s requirements, we are always able to provide an innovative and cost-efficient helipad solution. By working in close cooperation with the client and the architect, preferably during the initial (feasibility) design phase, we are able to effortlessly incorporate all design requirements. Off course, the latest design standards, rules and regulations are always taken into account. The aluminium helipad components are manufactured at Bayards’ high tech production facilities and comprise: • Planking
• Drainage gutters
• Beam frames
• Ramps & walkways
• Support structures
• Platforms
• Maintenance free perimeter safety netting
• Staircases
All of our helipads can be supplied and outfitted with a wide range of operational and support equipment, such as: • Firefighting systems • Lighting systems • Winterisation

Installation All helipad components, including operational and support equipment, are delivered as assembly kits and installed by an assembly crew. Altogether, this crew, which is instructed by a dedicated Bayards supervisor, have installed over 600 helipads, worldwide. We are able to assist in logistics, accessibility and positioning of the helipad thanks to our extensive experience gained on these projects. We always go the extra mile for our clients and constantly monitor the entire process, from the first concept to the last bolt.

Firefighting systems The health and safety of helipad operating personnel, helicopter crew, passengers and patients is of paramount importance. Being mindful of this, Bayards uses advanced, active firefighting systems with fire monitors and pop up nozzles. We developed a unique, passive firefighting system to minimize risks in case of a fire outbreak (during helicopter take-off and landing) on the helipad. This system, which we have named Safedeck ™, is a state-of-the-art helicopter landing platform with enhanced fire suppressing capabilities, the design of which combines fuel drainage with oxygen deprivation and cooling. This results in accelerated fire extinction, without any human intervention being required. In addition to passive fire suppressing systems such as the Safedeck™, we also offer active firefighting systems, such as the Deck Integrated FireFighting System (DIFFS), which consist of pop-up nozzles, foam skids and activation panels. Bayards helipads can be installed with: • Conventional foam monitor systems (remote-controlled or self-oscillating) • Fire extinguishers • Rescue and fireman equipment for helipad operating personnel • Oil separators

Lighting systems Bayards helipads are outfitted with the most advanced lighting systems. These systems are suitable for installation in any ambient (Safe Area or Explosion Proof certified) and environmental condition. They are composed by multiple elements that are designed to be fully compliant to both specific national and international regulations, such as ICAO and UK CAA. Depending on the project specifications, Bayards lighting system components may include:
16
• Perimeter lights
• Heliport beacons
• Floodlights
• Obstruction lights
• Circle-H lighting systems
• Path indicators (GPI, HAPI)
• Illuminated windsocks
• Walkway lighting
• Approach lights
• Remote controllers
17
Winterisation A helipad has to be fully operational and accessible 24-7, all year round. For operational and safety purposes the helipad landing surface including access/exit routes, must be kept free of snow and ice. Bayards has developed three different types of helipad winterisation systems, benefiting of the superior heat transfer characteristics of its aluminium deck profiles: • Electrical heating with self-regulating cables • Hot water/glycol heat tracing • Residual hot air heat tracing
18
19
Support structure Besides the helipad ‘pancake’, Bayards also takes care of the engineering, manufacturing and installation of the aluminium support structures: the structure underneath the landing area that supports the helipad. These support structures weigh even less than the ‘pancake’ itself, which results in: • No additional reinforcements required for the building • Further space saving, because it is possible to cantilever the helipad structure from the building When compared to other materials like steel, concrete or composite, aluminium is extremely cost- effective: • An aluminium support structure weighs only 1/3 of a steel support structure • Our aluminium support structures are completely bolted, instead of welded: the aluminium structure is assembled 8 times faster than a steel one - in just 1 week • Unlike steel structures, aluminium structures do not require surface treatment such as sand blasting or painting

Safety netting Thanks to our extensive knowledge and experience gained over the years, we have developed the optimal safety netting solution. This system has proved to be one of the safest solutions for helipad operation personnel, helicopter crew, passengers and patients. Our safety net panels consist of aluminium tubular frames spanned with maintenance free aluminium or stainless steel wire mesh. This design solution makes optimal use of the valuable properties of aluminium and stainless steel in one product, which results in the following benefits: • Safe netting • Extremely durable (35+ years) • Lightweight and maintenance free frame
22
23
Access systems and parking areas From a health and safety perspective it is of paramount importance that the routes from and to the helipad meet current health and safety regulations. In order to meet these requirements and still maintain installation flexibility on site, we have developed standard and easily adaptable access systems for our helipads. This way, a safe and permanent access from the helicopter landing area to the main building and vice versa can be guaranteed. Bayards helipads can be outfitted with: • Stretcher ramps • Walkways • Staircases • Platform extensions for parking the helicopter

Lease options Nowadays, expensive medical equipment is no longer purchased by the hospitals, but instead financed by a third party. Similarly, leasing a helipad is becoming increasingly common in the hospital world. When it comes to financing a helipad, Bayards is able to offer affordable and flexible lease agreements that can be customized to fit the client’s specific requirements. These agreements enable the client to have a helipad even when there is no immediate budget available.
