Our Story For many years, John ‘Amazon John’ Easterling traveled in South America, crisscrossing the Andes Mountains, searching for lost cities and pre-Columbian civilizations. The residual effects of bouts with hepatitis and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, along with his adventurous lifestyle, began to take their toll, compromising his health and leaving him in a state of chronic fatigue, both physically and mentally. Then, on one of his frequent trips into South America, local indigenous peoples shared with him their traditional uses of nutritional and medicinal botanicals. John recently visited the Shipibo Tribe in Peru, where he appeared on their radio station that broadcasts via shortwave to many areas of the Upper Amazon River. There, he made a commitment on behalf of TriVita and ACEER (Amazon Center for Environmental Education and Research) to continue the water wells work. Plans are to build a total of 10 wells in the near future. One well already operating demonstrates the huge benefit a good well can bring. This well, in the village of Santa Rosa on the Rio Pisqui, has made the community “more healthy, lively and productive. Last fall, regional authorities in the Santa Rosa Rainforest region wrote a heartfelt letter to ACEER documenting the improvements the well has brought. “It helps us with the health of our children, elderly people and people in general,” the letter attests. Until the well brought fresh water to Santa Rosa, there was “much sickness… this work will help us reduce this problem.”
