FALSE PRIDE IS CRUMBLED TO DUST AND KINDNESS TRIUMPHS

7 PM

7 PM

Can goodness trump selfishness and vanity? A trapped and tender-hearted Angelina cooks and cleans for her buffoonish stepfather and her snooty stepsisters while she dreams of a better life. When two visitors arrive at her home — a prince disguised as his own servant, and the prince’s servant disguised as a beggar — she shows them the kindness that no one else in

the house will. Fate rewards her with an invitation to the ball where the prince will choose his bride. Is there a happy ending in store for Angelina? Rossini’s delightful version of the classic fairytale Cinderella shows that virtue does triumph and kindness can make your dreams come true, even without a fairy godmother and a glass slipper. 5

NO WITCHING POWERS I CLAIM, YET I’VE A CERTAIN JE NE SAIS QUOI, I CONFESS

Sir John Falstaff is the ultimate human juxtaposition—old yet immature, hapless but manipulative, decent yet wickedly indecent. Also a man of many appetites, the lecherous Falstaff can’t resist his favorite vices—food, women, and wine. Suddenly finding himself broke, he hatches a plot to cure his woes—he sends identical love letters to two married women to get his hands on their wealthy husbands’ purse

strings. Falstaff doesn’t bank on getting found out and with the help of some "merry wives," husbands, and supernatural creatures, he gets his due and learns the joke is on him. A brilliant comedy based on a character from Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor, this period piece boasts an updated twist, pops of color, and designs from a modern point of view for modern tastes.

The Roaring Twenties brought us novel inventions, a racy new culture, and dramatic social change‌and for Violetta ValÊry, illness, judgment, and sacrifice. This party girl lives life on her own terms, gives into pleasure for money and keeps her heart safe, until she meets a man who changes her life. Choosing love over freedom, Violetta cannot resist

these feelings and the couple begin their life together, until an unwelcome visitor threatens their future. Will Violetta bend to the will of another or surrender to her heart? And can she do it in time? Directed by Marta Domingo, La traviata transports us to the past to a love story with poignant themes that transcend the ages. 9

War. To those who experience it from the comfort of their living rooms, they have no idea. For those who have experienced it first hand, we have no idea. Now is the time to crack open the door to understanding and conversation in Soldier Songs. Gripping and realistic, Soldier Songs traces the shift in perception of war from the age of 6 to the age of 66. We follow the lead character through the phases of life from boy to man: playing 12

war games and violent video games as a youth, enlisting and serving in the military, the real-life horrors of war, and a father whose worst fears are realized with the news of the death of his son. Adapted from interviews with veterans of five wars, Soldier Songs explores the idea versus the realities of the soldier, loss and the exploitation of innocence, and the impossibility of expressing the truth of war.

Tragedy of

(La Tragédie de Carmen)

Gypsy Carmen is a sizzling seductress, but play with her and you will get burned. Naïve young soldier Don José falls for her, leaving his homespun sweetheart Micaëla in pursuit of a life of crime and lust with Carmen and her band. But when Carmen callously drops him for Escamillo, the strutting bullfighter, jealousy ignites and Don

14

José is pushed to the brink. Passions intensify and burst into an emotional bonfire that threatens to destroy them all. In Peter Brook’s gripping adaptation of Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen, The Tragedy of Carmen brings us all of the intense emotion and gorgeous music, in a focused and distilled 90-minute production.
